Cricinfo excludes Sahibzada Farhan from ICC T20 World Cup 2026 Team of the Tournament - Fair or not?

ICC- going once, going twice, sold for a few hundred million to the Chennai Super Kings :asghar :wenger

He kept taking singles while he was in the mid-90s to secure his century rather than focusing on the team’s situation. Pakistan is out on run rate because of these types of performances. I am not particularly talking about Farhan’s performance here he played really well but about the overall direction and mindset of players in the team.

Gautam was spot on during the post-final match media talk when he said that if a batsman takes singles in the last over of an innings just to secure his century, he is actually costing the team around 20 runs that a selfless and team-oriented batsman could have scored, which would improve the team’s run rate.

I hope Pakistanis understand the point Gautam was making here, rather than celebrating centuries and double centuries scored in a losing cause.

Sanju Samson and Will Jacks were the stand out players. The team is a fair one. Farhan had a wonderful tournament but I guess you can say Makrams two 80s Vs Kiwis and Windies were better than Farhans tons. I also don't remember Adil Rashid doing all that well. Will have to look at the stats again.

We are not celebrating 40-ball 50s here, this dude made two centuries in a single World Cup and that deserves appreciation.

I see one issue was that Farhan sr was around 148 while other selected batsmen range is atleast 170 to 195.cricinfo maintains a mvp criteria , which cares about how the player impacted the game. So I guess in that context, there will be lots of unknowns.

He deserves to be in the team of the season. Not the best player, but definitely much better than Markram

Farhan's SR was 160

No it was 160

1. Sanju Samson 🇮🇳 (wk)
2. Sahibzada Farhan 🇵🇰
3. Aiden Markram 🇿🇦 (c)
4. Shimron Hetmyer 🏝️
5. Sikander Raza 🇿🇼
6. Shivam Dube 🇮🇳
7. Will Jacks 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
8. Jason Holder 🏝️
9. Adil Rashid 🇮🇳
10. Jasprit Bumrah 🇮🇳
11. Lungi Ngidi 🇿🇦
Good team ..exept the fact that Adil Rashid represented England this WC

Not justified at all. Farhan deserves to be there . This is a very imbalanced lineup by Cricinfo

I'd go something like this

Sanju
Farhan
Bethell
Hetmyer
Sikandar
Dube
Jacks
Holder
Muzarabani
Bumrah
Rashid

Farhan played ok for Pakistan’s standards, but he was not world class standard.

Other teams demand high strike rate throughout an innings specially towards the end.

His was the opposite, slowed down far too much and his overall strike rate is also below average for a top T20 opener.

On the other hand Sanju ensured his opening stands won his team the games where he performed. Against top sides. Farhan couldn’t do that.

Good team.

Was Kohli placed in the ESPN cricinfo team in the edition where he was top scorer in the competition?

3. Aiden Markram 🇿🇦 (c)
11. Lungi Ngidi 🇿🇦
Good team but I will go for ishan at 3 and madushanka for ngidi.Markram misses out in all important semis .its a huge mark against himself as a captain on a perfect batting track. He messed up when his team needs him most.Ngidi became slow ball specialist. If bumrah is there, then there is no need of another slow ball specialist. I will prefer a left hand option or extreme pace.Madushanka was good for me.

Honest team of the tournament

Sahebzada Farhan (MOTT)
Sanju Samson (Wikkie)
Fakhar Zaman
Shadab Khan (Designated Pinch-hitter)
Shimron Hetmyer
Will Jacks
Jofra Archer
Adil Rashid
Jasprit Bumrah
Nahid Rana
Usman Tariq

Farhan over makram. But neither should have got in.

Surprised people haven’t said it yet but surely Allen gets in? In fact how is there not more New Zealand representation when they got to the final.

Was Farhan Mos?
Its similar to assume usd 2016 and 2026 are equal.190 was a safe target back then.Strike rate , batting till 8, match ups etc are completely alien concepts back then.Infact semis at Mumbai was a key moment to emphasise on strike rate/impactful runs than average/individual score.

Indian posters are being humble and generous , imagine if our player had scored a 0 against PCT and then scored a 60 ball 100 in a must win high scoring flat pitch encounter, you guys would had ripped him apart but are being overly praiseful of Farhan..

Humble & generous Indians 🤣🤣 The most repulsive ...... .....

After crushing Chokeli’s record, we don’t need your approval.

Two 100s against Nambibia and Sri Lanka is nothing to write home about my dude.
Even ganguly bashed every minnow in 2003 wc and scored a century. He missed out against every decent opposition. To include such stat padders in the tournament team is a shame to the performing players.

Its not like indians scored on johnsberg or Perth.....they scored on mumbai and ahmedabad where farhan can also score

It’s like a Bollywood movie for them, and the script delivered, that’s all that matters to the tiny folk.

Van Schalwick and Muzarabani have 1 wicket less than Bumrah despite playing 3-4 less games. Now you can't include them in the tournament team because it's embarrassing.

The fact that this tournament turned into a joke for bowlers says it all.

Many openers have delivered. Personally i would pick Bennett to pair up with Samson. Against main countries he has done well. But SR Is low. Seifert is a good call. Markram choked when it mattered.

T20 Team lf the tournament is selected through impactful knock/ bowling on bigger stages, not by statpadding, you're still thinking this is selection of Pakistani T20 team where statpadder like babar selected. ...

Joke are your tullebaaz and entire team who always Surrendered.

:klopp :kp

Tough call on Farhan to be honest. But you can argue either way.

Too many openers performed well in this WC and as we can compare based on their batting positions, including Farhan can be difficult.

Samson vs Tim Seifert vs Finn Allen vs Markram vs Farhan among the big teams. Heck even minnow openers smashed 100s.

The issue is the with his S/R. Farhan doesn't have the 5th gear like others. Samson and Finn Allen has a S/R of ~ 190-200 this WC. So, now way Farhan is getting above them.

Samson and Finn Allen are my 1 and 2.

But if I want to squeeze in a more captain material with anchor type role, Markram will come in. He had a ~175 SR with good amount of runs.

Hard done for Farhan but it is what it is. At-least refreshing to see Farhan in this Pakistan side. But, he has the same old mentality of going for milestones and slows down at 50’s and 100’s.

Farhan would have reached 500 runs in this tournament if he played 2 more games
Samson would have scored 500 if he played all games??

It doesn't work that way. He did well but he didn't decimate oppositions. And cannot help that his scored against quality sides are 65(43) vs Eng and 0(4) vs India. Not sure if his 100(60) against Sri Lanka can get into that quality bracket when they were decimated by other sides.

Farhan did well but his impact is well below openers of his peers like Samson, Finn Allen and Tim Seifert. Tough competition to get into that list.

It’s like a Bollywood movie for them, and the script delivered, that’s all that matters to the tiny folk.

Was this "script" also delivered to Pakistan in Colombo?

Is that why they got mauled into submission by us ? :yk

Naw they don’t need approval, but does seem many are trying go give it to them.

If anyone should feel disappointed by this XI...it's actually Tim Seifert, who deserved to be here instead of Markram.

Tim Seifert helped NZ reach the final.

Sahibzada Farhan couldn't even help Pakistan get out of the super 8. His only match winning knocks came against minnows.Against Sri Lanka, it was the umpire who won Pakistan the game by not giving that wide off the last ball.

Farhan's innings against SL if played by RizBar would have been criticised ad nauseam. He deliberately slowed down and was knocking singles knowing we had to win by 65 runs to qualify followed by a cringe celebration.
As expected, Farhan failed in the T20 WC against SENAI.

These are his career numbers vs SENAI - average 21, SR 115:

In T20 WC against SENAI

3 matches, 2 innings, 61 runs @ 31.5 average and 128 SR (0 match winning innings)

He is a fraud against SENAI, minnow basher par excellence. Give me RizBar in bad form over this selfish minnow basher anyday. At least they scored vs SENAI.

Yes but Bumrah played a big role in India winning the tournament. He also had one of the best economy-rates in the tournament at just 6.21. In T20 that's an unreal output. 14 wickets at 12.4 and ER of 6.2 including MOTM 4-wicket haul in final.

I think there's a good case for either of those two making the XI over Ngidi, who was good at the start but went missing in the latter stage of the tournament.
