Worcestershire Rapids playing well vs Nottinghamshire at the moment. Looking good to retain the cup so far, but Alex Hales is a dangerous player so he could easily take this game away from them.

ABDV hitting 88* off 43 to give Middlesex a win in their opening game. Solid start for him.

How good is the lad Tom banton? Getting jealous of these English lads. Why can't our kids hit reverse sixes to third man of quicks and scoop shots etc???

Ed Barnard is having a freakishly good game here. Smashed some runs, got the key wicket of Hales, and now takes a stunning catch.

Top work from AB and Moeen today.

Worcestershire are strong again, backing them to take the trophy.

Moeen Ali bowled very well today

And somerset batsman Tom Banton looked very solid today

Not a bad debut from Babar Azam - scored 35 off 23 balls.

Play halted (Kent vs Somerset)because its too sunny.

England and its quirks:))

Kent bowlers bowled well although some bad shots played as well but qayyum was outstanding taking 5 wickets today

I feel like, in terms of overseas players, this is the best edition of the blast by far compared to previous editions! Some blockbuster names in more or less every county

A hatrick for Tom Curran (Surrey) vs Glamorgon.
Fakhar watching the nightmare from the other end.

Yorkshire need 115 from 84 in their game 2 earlier wickets form saqib Mahmoud and Croft both cleaned bowled

Very strong bowling attack for Surrey, plenty of experience out there.

Poor poor stuff by Somerset.
Literally gifted the game to Hampshire by some terrible bowling in the death overs.
Babar's performance goes in vain.

Harry Gurney 5 for 30 today for Notts v Derbyshire.

I watched N Pooran batting for Yorkshire yesterday. What a fine batsman in making. Just need to use his feet more, otherwise an excellent timer of the ball.

This is actually a decent competition ! However ECB jokers have decided instead of taking the common sense step of putting T20 Blast on free to air TV, they've invented a new format nobody wants

I like the T20 blast too. Matches on Friday nights up and down the country. Should definitely make this free to air, and try and do a Match of the Day like thing with highlights of everything.

This guy is really good.

Kudos to England team. They can find enough gems from this entirely terrible bowling talent on display in the tournament.

We're just going to ignore players like the 19 year old touching on 90mph and taking 3/6 in his 2 overs at the death in the televised match?

Colin Ackermann has somehow just managed to take the best figures in T20 history with 7/18.

Du Plessis joins Kent ranks for Blast run-in

Kent Cricket is delighted to announce the signing of South Africa captain Faf du Plessis for the rest of this year’s Vitality Blast, subject to regulatory approval.

A proven winner in all forms of the game, the 35-year-old was appointed skipper of the Proteas for T20 matches in April 2013 and subsequently across all formats in 2016.

An Indian Premier League champion, he is one of only 30 men to have scored an International T20 (IT20) century in their career, with 119 runs from only 56 balls against the West Indies in 2015.

The right-hander currently averages 35.86 in IT20s with the bat and has scored centuries in both Test and One Day International (ODI) cricket this year.

His last ODI appearance saw him score 100 against Australia during this year’s ICC Cricket World Cup at Old Trafford, whilst leading his country.

He was named as South Africa’s Men’s Cricketer of the Year earlier this month.

A handy leg-spinner, du Plessis has 50 domestic T20 wickets in 52 innings with the ball, with a bowling average of just 18.34 and an economy rate of only 6.96.

In 2017, he captained a World XI T20 side against Pakistan in a three-match series.

On joining Kent Cricket, du Plessis said: “I really look forward to joining up with Kent for the last part of the Vitality Blast.

“I will do my best to contribute to the already successful team and hopefully help them to lift a trophy.

“I’ve played with some of the squad members in the past and look forward to joining up with all the guys again.”

Director of Cricket Paul Downton said: “We’re really excited to be able to bring in a world class player such as Faf for the rest of the Vitality Blast.

“He is a world-class batsman and, along with his leadership skills, he will be a major asset to our young side, as we seek to progress to the quarter finals and beyond in this year’s competition.”

Australia's Michael Klinger rose to second on the list of most men's Twenty20 centuries, when he smashed his eighth in the T20 Blast on Thursday, 29 August.

Only West Indies' Chris Gayle, with 21 against his name, has more. Aaron Finch, David Warner, Luke Wright and Brendon McCullum have seven.

Klinger, 39, who is set to bring his 21-year long career to an end this season, showed he still had it in him by smashing 102* off 65 balls for Gloucestershire against Kent. It took his side to 180/3, and despite a 45-ball 60 from South Africa's Faf du Plessis, Kent fell short by five runs.

Klinger, who despite his excellent T20 numbers – an average of 34.48 and strike-rate of 123.13 in 204 matches – has featured in just three Twenty20 Internationals for Australia, has been in decent touch for Gloucestershire after a slow start to the tournament. He followed up a 52-ball 74 in the previous game with this century, sealing a spot in the quarterfinal for his side. His knock included four sixes and nine fours.

“I didn’t even know I got 100 because the main scoreboard had 91!” he said after the game. “It probably took a bit of pressure off not even knowing I was close, to be honest.”

Klinger remains the highest run-getter in the Big Bash League in Australia, where he made 1947 runs in 71 matches for Adelaide Strikers and Perth Scorchers, with one century. He has been associated with Gloucestershire for seven years.

Speaking to the ECB Reporters Network, he said he was pleased to see young players come through the ranks of the club, and saw their development as an aspect of his legacy. His plans for the future, though, were open, he said.

“When I get [back home to Australia] I will be unemployed and I am not too sure yet what the next stage of my career is going to be,” he said. “I will certainly look at going into coaching or the management and administration side of sport. I’ve done my masters in business and sport and it is now a case of seeing what opportunities come along.”

Eoin Morgan smashes 83* from 29 balls in record T20 chase

England's World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan smashed a blazing 83* from just 29 balls to help Middlesex complete a record chase over Somerset in the 2019 T20 Blast.

Somerset set Middlesex an imposing target of 227 on Friday, 30 August. However, Morgan was at his aggressive best, scaling it with six wickets and three overs to spare. It was the highest successful chase in domestic T20 cricket and the fourth-highest in all T20 cricket.

Morgan's half-century was studded with five fours and eight sixes, and sealed a quarter-final spot for his team.

Somerset's total was courtesy skipper Tom Abell's unbeaten 47-ball 101, a quick fifty from opener Tom Banton and Edward Byrom's 20-ball 44. During their chase, Middlesex openers Dawid Malan and Paul Stirling provided a solid start, putting on 67 from the first 22 balls. AB de Villiers, the No.3, contributed a quick 16-ball 32 before Morgan took control.

He stepped in to bat when Middlesex were 111/3 in the ninth over, still requiring 116 from 68 balls. He quickly shifted gears and ensured Middlesex cruised to the win in Taunton.

"Going into the second half of the innings, we knew we’d have to be positive and play extremely well, but the way the guys started was outstanding," Morgan said after the game.

"With Dawid [Malan] and Paul [Stirling] at the top of the order, when we get off the start like that and with the middle-order we have, it allows us to go harder earlier because we have strength in depth throughout the batting line-up. I'm delighted that we are through to the quarter-finals. It was great."

Middlesex will face Nottinghamshire in the quarter-final on Thursday, 5 September.

Moeen Ali turning on the style today for Worcs v Sussex.

Derbyshire have beaten Gloucestershire and qualified for their first ever Finals Day.

Semi-finals:

Essex v Derbys
Notts v Worcs

Holders Worcestershire Rapids sensationally won the clash of the last two T20 Blast Finals Day winners as they beat Notts Outlaws off the last ball to book their place in this year's final.

Ross Whiteley (36) and Riki Wessels (34) helped Worcestershire post 147-9.

Notts, led by Alex Hales' 52, then looked in control on 100-1 before imploding astonishingly.

Still needing only 11 off 12 balls, Pat Brown and Wayne Parnell kept the last two overs tight and Ben Duckett missed Parnell's final delivery as the Rapids won by one run.

Worcestershire will play the winner of the second semi-final between Derbyshire and Essex later on Saturday.

Notts appeared to be cruising to victory when after an opening stand of 51 from Hales and Chris Nash, Duckett kept the momentum going.

But to cap a brilliant spell of just 13 runs conceded in four overs, inspirational Rapids captain Moeen Ali, so often an Edgbaston matchwinner on his old home ground, had Hales caught behind.

Captain Dan Christian added a further 37 with Duckett but scoreboard pressure suddenly began to tell for the 2017 Edgbaston winners as they began to flap.

After Brown got rid of Christian and Tom Moores, Duckett ran out Steven Mullaney. And they began the last over still needing seven to win.

But, after conceding 37 off his first three overs, Parnell came back to keep his head when it mattered most, with dot balls off both the first and last deliveries.

In Worcestershire's innings, despite the early loss of overseas signing Hamish Rutherford, they had appeared to be cruising themselves at 40-1 after four overs, Moeen having come in to slap three quick sixes.

But the Birmingham-born former Bear was bowled around his legs sweeping, the first of three wickets for spinner Matt Carter.

And when Notts skipper Mullaney removed Parnell to end a 36-run stand with Wessels, that began a clatter of five wickets for 21 in 31 balls.

Daryl Mitchell's arrival at the crease at least gave big-hitting Whiteley support to smash a few late sixes, while there was even one late maximum over long on for Mitchell himself.

Defending only 148 never looked enough if Nash and Hales were to play like they did in the quarter-final against Middlesex when they took Notts to 165-0 and victory in the 17th over.

But, although the Notts openers did, it was not for long enough this time as Worcestershire pulled off one of T20 cricket's most startling victories.

To top off an astonishing display of great coolness and calm, Worcestershire beat a Notts side containing two of last year's winning Rapids team, the then on-loan Luke Wood and winter signing Joe Clarke, who other than running out former team-mate Ed Barnard earlier, remained bizarrely unused during their reply.

"That probably just shades our last-ball win against Durham in the group stages as the most exciting win I've seen. It was an amazing effort.

"I must admit that, with two overs left, we looked dead and buried. But those last two overs were pretty special.

"The important thing was that we stayed in the game as long as possible and then Moeen had a gut feeling for Wayne Parnell to bowl that last over.

"I don't think what had happened before had any relevance in that situation. Wayne knew what to do and he executed it brilliantly."

Simon Harmer spins Essex Eagles into Vitality Blast final with win over Derbyshire Falcons

Simon Harmer and Aron Nijjar shared seven wickets to spin Essex Eagles past Derbyshire Falcons and into the Vitality Blast final at Edgbaston.

Defending 160-5, Essex bowled Derbyshire out for 126 to win by 34 runs with the spinners doing the bulk of the damage.

Harmer (4-19) produced two beauties to bowl Billy Godleman and Leus du Plooy and when Anuj Dal walked past another from the off-spinner, the Falcons crumbled and were eventually bowled out in the 19th over.

Essex will now face Worcestershire in the final after the Rapids won a thrilling first semi-final against Nottinghamshire earlier in the day.

Having elected to bat, Essex got off to a flyer as Cameron Delport and Tom Westley brought up the fifty partnership in the final over of the powerplay.

Delport (55 from 31 balls) was finding the boundary with great regularity, hitting nine fours on his way to a 28-ball half-century, but did not get much further as he holed out to long off, Alex Hughes the bowler to break the 78-run opening stand.

Pace off the ball was working for Derbyshire and they dragged themselves back into the match as Hughes (2-24) got rid of Dan Lawrence (3) before Luis Reece (2-24) removed Ryan ten Doeschate (1) and Westley (39) to leave Essex 107-4 in the 14th over.

Ravi Bopara and Adam Wheater (20no) got the Eagles back on track and although Bopara (27) fell to Ravi Rampaul (1-30) late on, Essex's approach in the second half of the innings suggested they were confident they had a strong total on a dry Edgbaston wicket.

Reece made a positive start for Derbyshire in their chase, thumping three fours and a six only to have his fun cut short midway through the second over by a superb one-handed catch from Wheater behind the stumps off Aaron Beard (1-6).

Harmer brought himself on to bowl the fourth over and struck with his first ball, ripping the ball past Godleman's (9) outside edge to hit off stump. He followed that up with two in two balls in his third over, another stunner turning from leg to hit off and bamboozle Du Plooy (9) before Dal (0) was castled after advancing down the track.

Nijjar had seen his first four balls go for 14 but fought back to bowl Wayne Madsen (17) round his legs and when the left-arm spinner bowled Matt Critchley (5) in the 11th over, Derbyshire were all but beaten at 81-6.

Hughes (23) was stumped off Nijjar (3-26) to make that 86-7, part-time off-spinner Lawrence (1-20) chipped in with the wicket of Fynn Hudson-Prentice (1) and Harmer returned to have Daryn Smit (19) caught, leaving it to Delport (1-11) to finish it off by having Rampaul (6) caught in the deep.

Captain Moeen leads his side to the final yet again. If he’s available for the PSL next year, surely must be one of the most sought after picks.

Moeen Ali! What a leader. Back to back titles in the offing. Should be made England T20I captain and given a chance up the order.

Poor last over that by Parnell.

All length balls, easily dealt with by the Essex batsmen.

Parnell is awful. Completely brainless bowler. Don’t know why T20 teams pick him up as an overseas player.
Remember him in the IU squad last year playing games as specialist batsmen :))

Congratz to Essex

2 from 1 needed just like the semi final would have been epic if Parnell could have defended the same total off the last ball again
