La Liga will start as originally planned next Friday with Athletic Bilbao versus Barcelona after a Spanish court reached a provisional agreement.

The court said games can be staged on Fridays, but not Mondays.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) said in July that La Liga games cannot be played on Fridays and Mondays without its approval.

Fixtures had already been scheduled and Athletic-Barcelona was moved to the Saturday, but now returns to Friday.

Two games on Monday, 19 August must now be moved.

In February, Alaves supporters held a mock funeral during their La Liga win over Levante in protest at the match being switched to Monday night for live TV coverage.

The RFEF said supporters only wanted games on weekends and that Monday fixtures in particular made it "very difficult for fans to enjoy games".

La Liga feared that would threaten its 2bn euro broadcast deals.

The case went to court after the two sides failed to reach a compromise at a meeting organised last month by the government's National Sports Council (CSD).

Judge Andres Sanchez Magro announced the provisional ruling at a commercial court in Madrid in a 32-page document on Friday.

La Liga says it will appeal against the decision and says it contains "clear contradictions and passes judgment over issues it was not required to without offering sound judicial motives, arguments or reasoning".

It also said it would contact operators and international broadcasters and do all it can to "ensure the negative effects are as limited as possible".

La Liga has now called an Extraordinary General Assembly with all clubs from the top two tiers of Spanish football on Monday.

Meanwhile, RFEF president Luis Rubiales called it "an historic day" and added: "My commitment to the fans to banish Mondays from our football has been fulfilled."

It has been seven years since a team other than Bayern Munich has won the Bundesliga but the German giants could be set to see their domestic dominance come under threat this season.

Bayern kick off the new campaign on Friday night against Hertha Berlin.

But they struggled to strengthen as much as they would have hoped in the transfer market while their title rivals Borussia Dortmund appear to have bought wisely.

Meanwhile, former Huddersfield manager David Wagner will hope to rejuvenate a Schalke side that has lost its way in recent times, while all eyes will be on Paderborn after their "miracle return" to the top flight.

BBC Sport takes a look at some of things to watch out for in this season's Bundesliga.

Dortmund won back-to-back titles in 2010-11 and 2011-12 but since then top spot has belonged to Bayern Munich.

However, Lucien Favre's side pushed Bayern close last season, taking the title battle to the final game having at one stage been nine points clear.

And they have already beaten Bayern to win the German Super Cup this month.

Dortmund got their transfer business completed early over the summer, bringing back defender Mats Hummels from Bayern and Germany full-back Nico Schulz from Hoffenheim to shore up a defence that was prone to letting in costly late goals last season.

Germany midfielder Julian Brandt and Belgium forward Thorgan Hazard have also arrived from Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Moenchengladbach respectively.

"The way that Borussia Dortmund are talking, I think they will be close," Bundesliga journalist Archie Rhind-Tutt told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily Euro Leagues podcast.

"Dortmund have changed their rhetoric. At the start of last season it was all about rebuilding.

"Even when they were nine points clear they were still not saying the title was their aim and that is something they admitted was a mistake in the summer."

On top of the new additions, big things are expected once again of exciting England winger Jadon Sancho.

The 19-year-old was the top assist maker in the Bundesliga with 14 and, according to Rhind-Tutt, he is undoubtedly the star player in the Dortmund team.

"I don't think I can see how this season can go wrong for him," he said.

"I think he is one of the best, if not the best, player in the Bundesliga in a one-on-one situation."

Problems for Bayern?
Bayern Munich spent the summer pursuing Manchester City forward Leroy Sane, who was seen as the club's number one target to fill the void left by Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

However, an injury for Sane scuppered that move and leaves Bayern still looking to bring in a marquee signing before the German transfer window closes on 2 September.

Rhind-Tutt added: "Bayern only lost four games last season but, given the fact they have not made that star signing they wanted to, I think they may have a slightly more tough time of it or, more accurately, their coach Niko Kovac might have a tough time of it."

Bayern have reportedly turned their attention to Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho, although could face competition for the Brazilian's signature from Paris St-Germain.

They have also signed Croatia winger Ivan Perisic on a one-year loan from Italian club Inter Milan.

"I think Coutinho would give Bayern something a little different up there but it is still a weird scenario for Bayern because they are used to getting their business done early," Rhind-Tutt said.

"They have put themselves under a lot of pressure and it still feels like something is missing from Bayern right now."

Schalke appointed former Huddersfield boss David Wagner in the summer and the 47-year-old German is immediately under pressure to turn things around for the perennial under-achievers.

The club won the Uefa Cup in 1997 when Wagner was part of the squad but have had little success since then. They were runners-up in the Bundesliga two seasons ago but finished 14th in 2018-19.

"Success in the words of David Wagner would be a top-half finish," said Rhind-Tutt. "That says something when you are a club of Schalke's size.

"They have a difficult start - their first two games of the season are Moenchengladbach away - and they are going to be one of the sides to watch out for this season - and then they have Bayern at home.

"If they are on zero points after two games it will be a sticky situation for him."

As well as Sancho, Ademola Lookman will once again feature in the Bundesliga having made the switch from Everton to RB Leipzig.

The 21-year-old had a successful spell on loan at the club in the 2017-18 season, scoring five goals in 11 league games and will be hoping to kick on in his first full season as a permanent player.

Lookman's former Everton team-mate Jonjoe Kenny was signed on loan by Wagner for Schalke in the summer and is set to be his new manager's first-choice right-back.

Joining Lookman at Leipzig this season is defender Ethan Ampadu after the Welshman has moved on loan from Chelsea.

Others to keep an eye on are former Manchester City youth player Rabbi Matondo at Schalke, Augsburg defender Reece Oxford and midfielder Lewis Baker, who is spending the season at Fortuna Dusseldorf from Chelsea.

Supporting a football team can often be a roller coaster for fans, but SC Paderborn have taken that to an extreme over the past five years.

Climbing from amateur football to the Bundesliga summit in a decade, a crushing three successive relegations sent the German club spiralling down - before making their return to the top flight via a huge slice of luck inspired one of football's most intriguing tales.

Champions Barcelona suffered a defeat on the opening day of the La Liga season after a sublime winner by Aritz Aduriz handed Athletic Bilbao victory.

Barca produced a lacklustre performance and were punished when substitute Aduriz, 38, found the net with a stunning 89th minute scissor-kick.

Luis Suarez and Rafinha both hit the woodwork for Barca but the visitors struggled to impress despite fielding new £107m signing Antoine Griezmann.

Suarez was forced off with an injury.

With Lionel Messi missing with a calf injury and Philippe Coutinho not involved amid reports he is set to join Bayern Munich on loan, Barca suffered a further blow as Suarez hobbled off before half-time.

Ernesto Valverde's side - chasing a third successive La Liga title - also included midfielder Frenkie de Jong, a £65m signing from Ajax but were disjointed for long spells and managed just two shots on target.

Former Spain forward Aduriz has already announced he is retiring at the end of the season after a career spanning 20 years.

He threw himself into the air and acrobatically volleyed past Marc-Andre ter Stegen to send San Mames wild on La Liga's opening night.

Bayern Munich have agreed to sign attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona on season-long loan deal with an option to buy.

The German champions said the 27-year-old Brazilian is expected to complete the move in the coming days.

Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: "The name doesn't matter, only the quality."

The club are also set to sign 19-year-old midfielder Mickael Cuisance from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Coutinho, who was in the crowd for Barcelona's La Liga defeat against Athletic Bilbao on Friday, joined from Liverpool in a £142m deal in January 2018.

Despite scoring 21 goals in 76 appearances for the Spanish giants, he has fallen short of expectations and had been linked with several clubs this summer.

It is believed he was included as part of a bid by Barcelona to re-sign Neymar from Paris St-Germain, the Spanish club reportedly willing to offer 100m euros (£92.4m) plus Coutinho for the forward.

Tottenham ended their interest in a loan deal for Coutinho earlier this month, while he was also linked with moves to Arsenal and back to Liverpool.

French champions Paris St-Germain fell to a surprise defeat as they threw away a goal lead and were beaten by Rennes.

Edinson Cavani, who had earlier hit the post, gave PSG the lead when he was gifted the ball by Rennes captain Damien da Silva's misplaced backpass.

PSG, again without Neymar, had a chance to make it 2-0 but Kylian Mbappe also hit the woodwork.

Mbaye Niang's curled finish made it 1-1 before Romain del Castillo headed in a cross from Eduardo Camavinga, 16.

Rennes had a chance to grab a third goal but Jeremy Gelin's header hit the post, with Mbappe and Cavani both missing late chances to make it 2-2.

PSG only lost five Ligue 1 matches in 2018-19 as they won the title by 16 points, while Rennes, who came 10th last season, denied PSG a league and cup double as they beat them on penalties in the final of the French Cup.

Once again, PSG were without Brazil forward Neymar with the world's most expensive player continuing to be the subject of interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Maurizio Sarri: Juventus coach treated for pneumonia

Former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is being treated for pneumonia.

The 60-year-old Juventus coach spent Monday morning at the Italian club having missed a weekend friendly against Triestina because of what was initially thought to be flu.

After feeling unwell, further tests diagnosed pneumonia and Juve confirmed treatment had begun.

Juventus visit Parma for their opening Serie A match on Saturday and it is not clear if Sarri will be in charge.

The veteran Italian joined Chelsea from Napoli in July 2018 and won the Europa League with the west London club during his one season at Stamford Bridge.

He succeeded compatriot Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus in June.

England right-back Kieran Trippier assisted Alvaro Morata's winning goal as Atletico Madrid defeated Getafe in their opening La Liga match.

A £20m signing from Tottenham in July, Trippier marked his competitive debut by crossing for Chelsea loanee Morata to head in after 23 minutes.

Morata missed a 56th-minute penalty which resulted from £113m club record signing Joao Felix's weaving run towards goal from deep inside his own half.

Both sides had a man sent off.

Atletico debutant left-back Renan Lodi was dismissed for two bookable offences in two minutes shortly before half-time - just four minutes after Getafe's Jorge Molina Vidal had received a straight red card.

Champions Barcelona were beaten 1-0 by Athletic Bilbao on the opening day of the La Liga season on Friday, while Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid beat Celta Vigo 3-1 on Saturday.

Former Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery has joined Fiorentina on a free transfer.

Ribery, 36, became a free agent in the summer after 12 years at the Bundesliga club.

The Frenchman joined the German side in 2007 and made 425 appearances, winning nine Bundesliga titles and the Champions League in 2013.

"I'm delighted. Let's achieve something together," he told Fiorentina's official website.

Daniel Sturridge: Ex-Liverpool striker joins Turkish side Trabzonspor

Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has joined Turkish top-flight side Trabzonspor on a three-year deal.

The 29-year-old was released by the Reds in the summer after a six-year stay during which he scored 67 goals in 160 appearances.

The former England forward began his career at Manchester City before joining Chelsea in 2009.

Six-time Turkish champions Trabzonspor finished fourth in the league last season.

They face Greek side AEK Athens in the Europa League play-off round as they look to reach the group stages of the competition.

Trabzonspor are captained by former Bayern Munich and AC Milan midfielder Jose Sosa, while they also signed striker Alexander Sorloth on loan from Crystal Palace this season.

Sturridge spent six months on loan at Bolton during his time with Chelsea before making the move to Anfield, where he won the Champions League last season.

In July he was banned from playing football for two weeks and fined £75,000 after being found guilty of breaching betting rules.

He was given a six-week ban, four of which were suspended, and was free to play again on 31 July.

Jadon Sancho: Borussia Dortmund's England winger agrees new £190k-a-week contract

Borussia Dortmund's England winger Jadon Sancho has agreed a new contract with the Bundesliga club worth about £190,000 a week, including bonuses.

The 19-year-old, who was the subject of summer interest from Manchester United, scored 13 goals last season as Dortmund finished second behind Bayern Munich.

Sancho also scored in their opening league game this term - Saturday's 5-1 win over Augsburg.

Signed from Manchester City in 2017, his previous deal ran until 2022.

Sancho, who was part of Watford's academy before joining City, made his England debut against Croatia in October 2018 and has six caps.

Anderlecht's Vincent Kompany is to relinquish his managerial duties on match days in order to concentrate on playing.

Kompany was appointed player-manager at the Belgian club this summer after 11 years at Manchester City.

But Anderlecht have taken only two points from their first four league games - their worst start for 21 years.

Kompany will now be captain, while head coach Simon Davies will be in charge of tactical changes and substitutions.

The change will come into effect immediately, starting with Friday's match away to league champions Genk.

"One of the things that is going to change straight away is Vinnie is going to be captain," revealed Welshman Davies at the team's pre-match news conference.

"He is going to concentrate on being the player on match day.

"If Vinnie can be the best player in the league, which he is, and lead on the field, I can take responsibility for all the other things like changes and how we play, and if we need to change shape during the game."

Anderlecht have suffered two defeats and two goalless draws, leaving them 13th out of 16 in Belgian First Division A, eight points behind leaders Club Bruges.

Things came to a head last Saturday for Kompany when his side conceded four second-half goals to slip from 1-0 up to a 4-2 loss at Kortrijk.

The former Manchester City captain, who won 10 trophies at Etihad Stadium, will take over the armband from former City team-mate Samir Nasri.

The Frenchman was one of several new arrivals at the club this summer, including former Tottenham and West Brom player Nacer Chadli and striker Kemar Roofe from Leeds United.

Cristiano Ronaldo had a goal ruled out for offside by the video assistant referee as Juventus started their season with a slender win over Parma.

Captain Giorgio Chiellini scored the Serie A champions' goal, poking in from close range after Alex Sandro mis-hit a shot from a corner.

Ronaldo looked to have doubled his side's lead but his head was judged to have been narrowly offside by VAR.

Juve's £67.5m summer signing Matthijs de Ligt was an unused substitute.

Aaron Ramsey, who joined from Arsenal in the summer, did not make the matchday squad.

Manager Maurizio Sarri did not travel to Parma after receiving treatment for pneumonia, and the former Chelsea boss will also miss next week's fixture against Napoli at Allianz Stadium.

Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick as Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich collected their first victory of the season by comfortably beating Schalke.

Niko Kovac's side responded in style after starting the season with a 2-2 draw against Hertha Berlin.

Poland striker Lewandowski netted the opener from the penalty spot, before adding two more in the second half to complete his ninth league hat-trick.

Bayern host Mainz in the league next Saturday (14:30 BST).

Antoine Griezmann marked his home league debut for Barcelona with his first competitive goals for the club as Real Betis were well beaten in La Liga.

Griezmann, signed in July for £107m, swept in to equalise Nabil Fekir's opener, then bent in a lovely second five minutes after half-time.

Carles Perez, with his first senior goal, added a third for Barca, beaten at Athletic Bilbao a week ago.

Jordi Alba and Arturo Vidal made it 5-1 before Loren's stunning consolation.

Griezmann, signed at great expense from Atletico Madrid, was under pressure to perform after a poor display on his competitive debut against Bilbao, especially with fellow forwards Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele all absent through injury.

Barcelona have been heavily linked with a move for their former striker Neymar - who has not played for Paris St-Germain this season because of the uncertainty over his future.

Griezmann struggled to get into the match early on, and when Fekir steered in his first Betis goal from Loren's pass in the 15th minute, there were concerns that Barca might be on course to start their title defence with two successive defeats.

Those worries, though, started to disappear once Griezmann stretched to touch in Sergi Roberto's chip four minutes before half-time.

The France striker appear to score a little untidily with his shin, but the goal got his confidence going, and he struck again by curling a fine shot into the far corner from the edge of the penalty area after being set up by Roberto.

Perez, making only his third senior Barca appearance, had scuffed wide an earlier chance on his weaker right foot, but proved ruthless on his left from 18 yards following Nelson Semedo's cut-back from the right.

Alba swept in a fourth - Barca's third in 10 second-half minutes - having charged forward from left-back to take on Sergio Busquets' through pass, and substitute Vidal stretched to lift a shot into the roof of the net for the fifth, with fine build-up play from Perez and Griezmann.

Loren blasted a shot into the top corner almost immediately for a second Betis goal, but Barcelona could have had more.

Ansu Fati, the second-youngest first-team player in Barcelona's history at 16 years 298 days, impressed after coming on as a second-half substitute, steering one shot just wide and setting up Griezmann for a hat-trick chance, which the striker saw pushed out by goalkeeper Dani Martin.

Paris St-Germain lost Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani to injury as the French champions comfortably beat Toulouse.

Cavani was forced off after 14 minutes, while Mbappe pulled up in the second half with a thigh problem.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting - Cavani's replacement - broke the deadlock, before Mathieu Goncalves put through his own net.

Angel di Maria missed a penalty, but Choupo-Moting's second goal and a Marquinhos header sealed the win.

Thomas Tuchel's side are already without Brazil forward Neymar, who reportedly is not being considered for selection while his future remains in doubt.

The victory lifts PSG up to third in Ligue 1, behind Lyon and early leaders Rennes, who beat the champions 2-1 last weekend.

Junior Firpo: Barcelona apologise over Betis tweet

Barcelona have apologised for mocking Real Betis following a 5-2 win over their La Liga rivals on Sunday.

Following the victory at the Nou Camp, Barcelona tweeted a photo of defender Junior Firpo holding up five fingers with the caption 'Junior knows'.

The La Liga champions signed Spain Under-21 international Firpo from Real Betis in August.

The club tweeted: "Barcelona wish to sincerely apologise for any offence caused to Real Betis."

"No disrespect was intended, but we were wrong to publish it on a night that was very special for Junior."

Firpo made his Barcelona debut during the 5-2 win, coming on for Brazilian midfielder Rafinha after 81 minutes.

The 23-year-old featured in 29 games for Betis last season and was part of Spain's U21 European Championship-winning side in June.

Paris St-Germain forwards Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe will be out for four and three weeks respectively.

They came off during Sunday's 4-0 Ligue 1 win over Toulouse, with Cavani injuring his hip and Frenchman Mbappe, 20, picking up a hamstring problem.

Both players will miss at least two league games for the French champions.

However, Uruguayan Cavani, 32, may be fit in time for PSG's opening Champions League group match on 17 or 18 September.

Neymar is suspended for the first three games of this season's competition, although the 27-year-old Brazil forward has been linked with a return to Barcelona before the European transfer window closes on 2 September.

Cavani will be unavailable for Uruguay's friendlies against Costa Rica and the United States, while Mbappe will miss France's home Euro 2020 qualifiers against Albania and Andorra.

Romelu Lukaku scored on his Serie A debut for Inter Milan as they convincingly beat 10-man Leece.

The Belgian striker, signed by Inter for a club record 80m euros (£74m) from Manchester United on 8 August, tapped in the third goal in the 60th minute.

Marcelo Brozovic curled Inter's opener and Stefano Sensi's drive made it 2-0.

Antonio Candreva's 30-yard drive completed the victory after Leece's Diego farias had been sent off for a nasty looking challenge.

Lukaku, who hit 42 goals in 96 games for United after joining from Everton for £75m in July 2017, has now scored on his league debut for each of his past four clubs.

Inter boss Antonio Conte, who replaced Luciano Spalletti in May, had identified Lukaku as a key summer target and was pleased with his star signing.

"Romelu has entered the Inter world with great humility," Conte said. "He is ready to work for the team."

Neymar: PSG and Barcelona officials meet in Paris to discuss deal for Brazil forward

Officials from Paris St-Germain and Barcelona met in Paris on Tuesday to discuss a possible deal for Neymar to return to the Spanish champions.

According to BBC Radio 5 Live's Guillem Balague, both clubs say the talks were "positive" but there is "still lots of work to do".

Brazil forward Neymar, 27, joined PSG from Barcelona in 2017 for a world record fee of 222m euros (£200m).

Barca are offering 170m euros (£153m) to be paid after a year's loan.

The loan cost would be at least 35m euros (£31.6m), though they may offer players to reduce the cash payment as negotiations continue.

The Catalan press, following leaks from the club, suggested Neymar was pushing for the deal to go through.

He has not put PSG under pressure but favours a return to the Nou Camp rather than a move to Real Madrid or Juventus.

His entourage are said to be "optimistic".

Following the meeting, Barca board member Javier Bordas told reporters a deal was "closer" but negotiations were continuing.

Timo Werner scored his first Bundesliga hat-trick as RB Leipzig beat Borussia Monchengladbach for a third win.

The Germany international, who signed a new contract last weekend, opened the scoring as he placed the ball through the legs of keeper Yann Sommer.

His second was brilliant as he sped away from the entire Gladbach defence before slotting home.

Breel Embolo briefly gave the hosts hope before Werner clinched his hat-trick in injury time.

Leipzig have won all three opening league games under new boss Julian Nagelsmann with Werner scoring in each of them.

Barcelona were held by promoted Osasuna as 16-year-old Ansu Fati became the champions' youngest La Liga goalscorer.

Roberto Torres gave Osasuna the lead early on with a sweet volley from Brandon's cross.

Fati came on at half-time for his second Barca appearance and headed in Carles Perez's cross six minutes later to equalise.

Perez then set up Arthur to put Barca ahead with a 16-yard shot but Torres equalised with a late penalty.

That kick was awarded after Gerard Pique handled Oier's cross.

"We did not play well at all, we were awful," said boss Ernesto Valverde.

"They went ahead and we couldn't get close to their area. Then we dominated the play in second half, we took the lead and had the game in our hands but they came back at us and levelled with that absurd penalty.

"We cannot afford to let a game like this one slip, we should have been more assertive on the pitch and kept on attacking."

Who is Fati?
Winger Fati has been with Barcelona's youth academy since 2012. He was born in Guinea-Bissau but moved to Spain at the age of six with his family.

He has not played for the country of his birth at any level, and Spanish media claim that Spain want to call him up to their youth teams.

Fati was the youngest player to make his Barca debut since 1941 when he came on last Sunday, with 12 minutes remaining, in a 5-2 win over Real Betis.

And this time he was brought on at a crucial point - when Barcelona were behind - and he got them level with a towering header from Perez's cross.

At 16 years and 304 days, he is the third youngest player to ever score in La Liga - after former Malaga player Fabrice Olinga (16y, 98d) and Athletic Bilbao's Iker Muniain (16y, 289d).

Barca's worst start since 2008
Barcelona really missed star forward Lionel Messi, who is yet to play this season because of a calf injury, in another disjointed performance.

They lost on the opening day to Athletic Bilbao before coming from behind to beat Betis last weekend.

After their draw with Osasuna, they have collected just four points, their worst return from three games since 2008-09. However, they went on to win the league that season under Pep Guardiola.

That they needed two goals from substitutes in Fati and Arthur, neither of whom had scored for Barcelona before, and blew a lead late on after battling back will be a concern for boss Ernesto Valverde.

Juventus beat Napoli in a remarkable Serie A game as Kalidou Koulibaly's injury-time own goal negated the visitors' three-goal comeback.

The champions led 3-0 through goals from debutant Danilo, former Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo's first of the season.

But three summer signings scored to put Napoli level - Kostas Manolas, Hirving Lozano and Giovanni di Lorenzo.

That was in vain as Koulibaly shinned a deep free-kick past his own keeper.

Juve, who have won the last eight titles, clearly lacked the presence of captain Giorgio Chiellini - likely to be out for several months with an anterior cruciate ligament injury - at the back, with £67.5m summer signing Matthijs de Ligt making a shaky debut.

Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri did not take charge against his former club as he recovers from pneumonia, although he was at the Allianz Stadium watching the game.

How Juventus took control
The contest looked over after 62 minutes, with Juventus very impressive in the first half especially.

Former Manchester City defender Danilo had to come on to replace the injured Mattia de Sciglio, and 29 seconds into his debut he scored after converting Costa's cross to finish off a swift counter-attack.

Higuain then doubled the lead brilliantly as he turned Koulibaly before smashing the bouncing ball past Alex Meret with the outside of his foot. Ronaldo added a third in the second half as he finished another Costa cross.

The Napoli comeback
Napoli beat Fiorentina 4-3 in the opening game. This is the first time a club have scored and conceded at least seven goals in the first two games of a Serie A season since 1931-32 (also Napoli)

Former Roma defender Manolas' header from Mario Rui's cross in the 66th minute looked a mere consolation.

But two minutes later they had real hope when Lozano, on his debut following a move from PSV Eindhoven, slotted in from Mario Rui's cross to become the first Mexican to ever score in Serie A.

Juventus winger Costa had a good shot tipped on to the woodwork by Meret - and that save looked crucial moments later.

The dream looked set to become a reality for Napoli, who have finished second to Juventus in three of the past four seasons, when Di Lorenzo, a summer signing from Empoli, beat De Ligt to the ball to scramble home a free-kick.

There was one more Napoli goalscorer, but sadly it was into his own net as Koulibaly, scorer of a famous winner against Juve in April 2018, got his angles wrong and rifled Paulo Dybala's deep free-kick past Meret.

DONE DEALS - Real & PSG swap keepers

Real Madrid have signed goalkeeper Alphonse Areola from Paris St-Germain on a season-long loan deal.

The 26-year-old will compete with Thibaut Courtois for the number one shirt at the Bernabeu.

Costa Rican keeper Keylor Navas has gone the other way, signing a four-year deal with the Ligue 1 champion.

It is the French side's second goalkeeper signing of the day having also acquired Sergio Rico from Sevilla.

The opportunity for Premier League clubs to bring in new players has long since come and gone - but the European window only shut on Monday.

And that gave a few top-flight clubs the chance to clear the decks of those judged surplus to requirements.

Many players signed for big money have moved on for substantially less but what influence did they have at their clubs? Have any of them been discarded too soon?

BBC Sport looks at the impact of six players who left the Premier League on Monday.

Passing through the departure lounge

Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Signed: Joined Arsenal from Manchester United in a swap deal for Alexis Sanchez in January 2018
Sold: Joined Serie A side Roma on a season-long loan for a reported £2.7m fee
Having arrived in England from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund for a fee of around £26m in July 2016, Henrikh Mkhitaryan went on to score 13 goals in 63 games for Manchester United.

The Armenia international, who won the Europa League at United, was then used as a makeweight in the deal that took Alexis Sanchez to Old Trafford.

A regular under Arsene Wenger, he has become an increasingly peripheral figure since Unai Emery became manager.

Mkhitaryan started just 19 of the Gunners' top-flight fixtures last term under the Spaniard and missed the Europa League final defeat by Chelsea in Baku because of concerns over his safety.

This season, the 30-year-old has played in three of Arsenal's four Premier League matches, starting their opening weekend win at Newcastle and making a further two substitute appearances.

Mkhitaryan has scored nine goals in 59 appearances for Arsenal.

Javier Hernandez
Signed: Joined West Ham from Bayer Leverkusen for £16m in July 2017
Sold: Joined Sevilla for a reported fee of £7.2m
Two-time Premier League winner Javier Hernandez arrived at the London Stadium as part of an £80m summer 2017 recruitment spree by former boss Slaven Bilic.

During his time at the Hammers, the 31-year-old Mexico international played under three different managers (Bilic, David Moyes and Manuel Pellegrini) making 63 appearances in all competitions.

At first inspection, his 16 goals in 55 Premier League games appears a modest return for a player with 150 career goals. However, just 31 of those appearances were as a starter.

At the time of his departure, Hernandez had one year left on his Hammers contract but might have struggled for game time this season following the arrival of club record signing Sebastien Haller.

Matteo Darmian
Signed: Joined Manchester United from Torino for £12.7m in July 2015
Sold: Joined Parma for a reported fee of £1.4m
Matteo Darmian arrived at Manchester United in July 2015 with a burgeoning reputation, just 12 months after winning his first Italy cap.

However, the former AC Milan youngster, brought in to replace Brazilian full-back Rafael, has endured a difficult period at Old Trafford.

While he collected FA Cup, EFL Cup and Europa League medals with the club, he has rarely been a first choice.

Instead Darmian has been used sparingly, operating as a utility player under successive managers.

The 29-year-old began 72 matches for United in just over four years at the club but only made four Premier League starts in 2018-19.

The Italian, whose contract contract was scheduled to expire in 2020, had not featured in the present campaign.

Fernando Llorente
Signed: Joined Tottenham from Swansea for a reported fee of £12.7m in August 2017
Sold: Joined Napoli after being given a free transfer
Spain striker Fernando Llorente joined Tottenham off the back of helping Swansea City avoid relegation from the Premier League in 2016-17.

While the former Juventus forward was signed primarily as an understudy to Harry Kane, he did provide Spurs with a useful alternative at the apex of their attack.

His physical presence and prowess in the air was pivotal as his team knocked Manchester City out of the Champions League at last season's quarter-final stage; he scored the vital away goal that ultimately saw Spurs advance.

Llorente only registered 13 goals during his two years in north London, but that in part could be attributed to making 45 of his 66 appearances as a substitute.

Capped 24 times by his country, the 34-year-old now returns to Serie A, where he has previously won two Scudettos with Juventus.

Mario Lemina
Signed: Joined Southampton from Juventus for £18.1m in August 2017
Sold: Joined Galatasaray on season-long loan
Still only 26, the former Marseille and Juventus midfielder joined Southampton in 2017 in a then club record deal worth up to £18.1m.

In his time with the Bianconeri, Lemina won both the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia twice, and featured in the 2017 Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid.

It was always going to be difficult for the Gabon international to repeat those highs on the south coast.

Continuously linked with moves away from St Mary's over the summer, Lemina was exiled from Ralph Hasenhuttl's squad before making the move to Turkey.

He scored two goals in his 52 appearances for the Saints.

Asmir Begovic
Signed: Joined Bournemouth from Chelsea for £10m in May 2017
Sold: Joined Qarabag on loan until January
Goalkeeper Asmir Begovic joined Bournemouth from Chelsea for £10m in 2017 and kept five clean sheets in his first season on the south coast.

But the Bosnia international lost his status as first choice in January, and has played just two competitive games since then.

Begovic, yet to appear for Bournemouth this season, has fallen behind Aaron Ramsdale, Artur Boruc and Mark Travers in the club's first-team pecking order.

The 32-year-old concluded a temporary move to Azerbaijani champions Qarabag just before the end of the European transfer window.

The former Portsmouth, Stoke and Chelsea goalkeeper has made 62 appearances for Bournemouth.

Brussels - Police investigating football transfer fraud have raided properties in Belgium, Monaco and London, arresting two people including an agent, Belgian prosecutors said on Wednesday.

The probe, which earlier this year saw the Belgian FA headquarters searched, is looking into suspected money-laundering by player agents and is separate from Belgium's so-called "footballgate" scandal, which has resulted in 20 suspects being charged.

Two people have been detained in an inquiry in Belgium into alleged fraud involving the transfer of football players, prosecutors say.

One, players' agent Christophe Henrotay, was held in Monaco. The other is said to be an associate in Belgium.

They were detained during raids on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Prosecutors said the arrests stem from an ongoing inquiry into the £13m (€18m) transfer of striker Aleksandar Mitrovic from Anderlecht to Newcastle in 2015.

"The facts involve notably money-laundering operations and private corruption in the context of football player transfers," they said on Wednesday.

A search was also carried out in London, where a Metropolitan Police spokesman said they were assisting the Belgian investigation.

It is understood that Newcastle believe they are not directly connected to the inquiry.

In April, Anderlecht premises were searched. No-one was detained at the time.

A separate inquiry into suspected fraud involving transfers during the 2017-2018 season led to raids on premises linked to Anderlecht, Club Bruges and Standard Liège last October.

Valencia have sacked manager Marcelino and have replaced him with former Real Madrid assistant Albert Celades.

The 54-year-old joined the club in 2017 with the La Liga club having recorded back-to-back 12th-placed finishes.

Former Barcelona midfielder Celades, 43, joins until June 2021 and took his first training session on Wednesday.

"The club wants to thank you for your work and dedication during your time with the club and wish you the greatest success for the future," the club said.

In his two seasons with the club, Marcelino led Valencia to fourth place and qualification for the Champions League.

The former Sevilla and Villarreal coach went on to win the Copa del Rey with the club last season, bringing them their first major trophy for 11 years.

Prior to the international break, Valencia drew at home to Real Sociedad and were lost to Celta Vigo before beating Real Mallorca 2-0.

Valencia face Chelsea in their opening game of the Champions League on Tuesday after a repeat of last season's Copa del Rey final on Saturday when they play Barcelona.

Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan has received a suspended jail sentence of nearly three years for firing a gun in a hospital after a fight with a singer.

Turan - currently on loan to Istanbul Basaksehir - got into a brawl with Berkay Sahin last year which ended with a broken nose for the pop star.

The footballer, 32, then turned up at the hospital and shot at the floor.

He was sentenced for firing a gun to cause panic, illegal possession of weapons and intentional injury.

A court gave him a jail sentence of two years and eight months but he will not spend time in prison unless he commits another crime in the next five years.

Istanbul Basaksehir has fined the midfielder 2.5 million Turkish lira (£350,000) over the incident.

Reports say Berkay Sahin was with his wife Ozlem Ada Sahin at an upscale Istanbul nightclub last October when the fight broke out.

Ms Sahin told Haberturk newspaper at the time that Turan made suggestive remarks to her, and then attacked her husband, who is well-known in Turkey. The singer was then taken to hospital for surgery on his broken nose.

Footballer charged over club 'attack'
But the incident didn't end there. Turan appeared at the hospital with a gun, allegedly begging for forgiveness. Panic ensued after the footballer fired the weapon at the ground.

Writing on Instagram on Wednesday, Turan apologised to his club and his family for his "momentary mistake".

However, he said the allegation he verbally harassed Ms Sahin was "a heavy and ugly slander". The Turkish court acquitted him of sexual harassment charges on Wednesday.

"I learned lessons from these events," he wrote. "My greatest aim is to make my family, my dear wife, my club and friends proud."

Who is Arda Turan?
The Turkish midfielder began his career at Galatasaray as a teenager. He was named captain at the age of 21.

He moved to Spanish club Atlético Madrid in 2011, and then to Barcelona in 2015. The club loaned him to Istanbul Basaksehir in 2018.

Turan has scored 17 goals in 100 senior appearances for his country, making him the fourth most-capped Turkish player of all time.

But he announced his international retirement in 2017 after he allegedly abused a journalist on the national team's plane.

Last year, Turan received a 16-game ban for shoving an assistant referee with both hands. He received a straight red card and a fine.

Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti says he is "shocked" by the state of the dressing rooms following renovation work at the Stadio San Paolo.

The Serie A side played their first two games of the season away from home while the work was being completed.

Napoli host Sampdoria on Saturday, before the visit of Liverpool on Tuesday in the Champions League.

"You can build a house in two months, but they weren't capable of renovating the dressing rooms," said Ancelotti.

In a statement on the club website, the Italian added: "I have seen the state of the dressing rooms at the San Paolo. There are no words. I accepted the club's request to play the first two games away from home to allow the work to be finished, as was promised.

"Where are we supposed to get changed for the games against Sampdoria and Liverpool? I'm shocked at the incompetence of the people in charge of the work.

"How could the region, municipality and commissioners fail to respect the commitments that were made? It smacks of disregard and a lack of a bond with the city's team. I'm dismayed."

In quotes reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, project manager Filomena Smiraglia said: "I am baffled by the statement by Ancelotti.

"We had a visit to the dressing room by the Napoli vice-president Edoardo de Laurentiis, who complimented us in front of the workers for the work".

Carlo Perego from Tipiesse, who carried out the works, said: "We are not late, indeed we are ahead on contractual times."

Eden Hazard made his Real Madrid debut as Karim Benzema scored twice in a nervy La Liga win over Levante.

Hazard, a summer signing from Chelsea, has recovered from a muscle injury and came on after 60 minutes at 3-1.

Real had led 3-0, with Benzema scoring a header and slotting home a James Rodriguez pass, before Casemiro netted.

But Borja Mayoral scored against his parent club and then Gonzalo Melero set up a tense ending with a header that beat Thibaut Courtois at his near post.

Real almost blew a three-goal lead in La Liga for the first time since 1946, but Ruben Vezo's header in injury time was turned away by an instinctive Courtois save, the Belgian's only stop of the game.

Belgium forward Hazard waited years to get his dream move to Real Madrid - in a deal which could end up costing £150m - and he had to wait a few weeks more for his debut after suffering an injury in pre-season.

He replaced goalscorer Casemiro after an hour, and was immediately in the action - setting up a chance for Vinicius Jr, which was blocked, and then having a shot saved by Aitor Fernandez.

However, short of fitness, the 27-year-old became a peripheral figure as Levante started to grow into the game - though he did manage 29 touches of the ball, a 100% passing rate and two shots on target, as well as winning three free-kicks.

Whether he has done enough - or is fit enough - to start at Paris St-Germain in Wednesday's Champions League opener remains to be seen.
.
The overhaul of the squad that Zinedine Zidane wanted failed to fully materialise in the summer, although six of the seven men on the bench were new recruits, including Hazard and fellow debutant Eder Militao.

After failing to land Paul Pogba in the summer, and letting Dani Ceballos and Marcos Llorente leave, they found themselves with only three fit midfielders in the squad for the Levante game because of injuries.

Nonetheless, Real appeared in complete control at 3-0 up, with Benzema scoring his seventh La Liga double since the start of last season and Casemiro adding a third.

Benzema and Lucas Vazquez also hit the woodwork, while Vinicius Jr had a goal disallowed.

But the hosts, who had drawn their previous two games, have not kept a clean sheet since 28 April and looked fragile again at the back.

A summer policy change almost cost them on Saturday. In previous years, they have not allowed their loan players to feature against them, but they do now and Mayoral refused to celebrate after tucking home Carlos Clerc's cross.

And panic mode set in after Melero made it 3-2, especially with Casemiro and captain Sergio Ramos having already been substituted. But Courtois saved them late on with a stop from Vezo as they saw out their first home win of the season.

Barcelona's 16-year-old forward Ansu Fati marked his first senior start with a second-minute goal as the La Liga champions cruised past Valencia.

The teenager burst on to Frenkie de Jong's square ball to score the opener with a firm strike at the Nou Camp.

Fati then returned the favour five minutes later when he cut the ball back for De Jong to double the hosts' lead.

Kevin Gameiro hit back but Gerard Pique and a Luis Suarez double sealed victory before Maxi Gomez's late consolation.

The Barcelona academy graduate became the club's youngest La Liga goalscorer last month when he opened his account within six minutes of coming off the bench in the champions' 2-2 draw at Osasuna.

And Fati, who joined the club's 'La Masia' academy in 2012 after moving to Spain from birthplace Guinea-Bissau at the age of six, was rewarded with a starting berth against Valencia after his performance in Pamplona.

Having become the youngest player to play for Barca since 1941, when he featured in the win over Real Betis on 25 August, the exciting forward could not have wished for a better full debut.

With injured club stalwart Lionel Messi gleefully watching from the stands, and the game barely a minute old, Fati timed his run to perfection to meet De Jong's pass and beat former Barca goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen with a crisp finish.

The pair then reversed roles as Fati showed some neat footwork by the byline before cutting the ball back across goal for the Dutchman to smash into the roof of the net.

The teenager showed some deft touches that belied his years, shooting narrowly wide on two occasions, but there were also signs of his inexperience as he was dispossessed trying to dribble past three Valencia defenders just inside his own half.

The visitors sprung clear after winning the ball from Fati, and although nothing came from that particular move, they pulled one back moments later through Gameiro after the video assistant referee overruled the official's offside decision.

Centre-back Pique restored Barca's two goal-advantage when he was on hand to convert the loose ball from close range before Fati was replaced by Luiz Suarez to a standing ovation just before the hour mark.

Suarez opened his account just seconds after entering the fray with a fierce right-footed strike, before adding his second with a rasping low drive in the final 10 minutes.

Substitute Gomez then latched onto Denis Cheryshev's low cross to secure a late consolation for the visitors, who remain in 12th place in the table, while victory for Barca moves them up to fourth.

Ansu Fati... if you've never heard of Barcelona's new superstar, you can be forgiven: until a couple of weeks ago, neither had the vast majority of the Spanish club's fans.

But the 16 year-old has been thrust into the limelight after making history on Saturday, becoming the youngest player in La Liga history to register a goal and an assist in the same game.

Even more impressively, he needed only seven minutes to do so in his team's 5-2 demolition of Valencia. Just 110 seconds had elapsed when he opened the scoring by meeting Frenkie de Jong's low cross with a confident right-footed strike from 12 yards; five minutes later, he returned the favour by weaving his way into the box and picking out a precise pass for De Jong to convert.

Fati then continued to thrill the 80,000-plus Nou Camp crowd with a series of skilful thrusts down the left wing, coming close to more goals on several occasions and making it plain that this prodigious teen is poised for greatness.

So, who is he and where did his sudden explosion on to the scene come from?

Following the family footsteps
Fati was born on 30 October 2002 in Guinea-Bissau, and spent the first six years of his life in the African country before moving to Herrera, a tiny town in southern Spain, after his father Bori - a former semi-professional footballer in Guinea-Bissau - found work as a driver for the town's mayor.

At first, Ansu was outshone by his elder brother Braima, who was signed by Sevilla's academy. But Ansu joined him before long, and by 2010 his dribbling and shooting talents had attracted serious interest from Spain's big guns.

According to Bori in a recent radio interview on RAC1, the best financial offer came from Real Madrid - but Barcelona made more effort, with then-academy director Albert Puig (now at New York City FC) making a personal visit to the family home to state the Catalan club's case. Barca also offered residency within their famed La Masia youth complex, so the Fati family headed to Barcelona.

Braima and Ansu - who were later joined at La Masia by younger brother Miguel - continued to impress, although they were temporarily sidelined in 2014 following Barca's transfer ban for breaking Fifa regulations on signing young players from overseas. (The Fati brothers had moved from within Spain so they were not directly implicated, but the club briefly removed them from the line of fire as a precautionary measure).

Ansu had another setback in 2015 when he suffered a broken leg, but his progress would not be hindered and last season he was one of the stars of the Uefa Youth League, scoring twice in the semi-final against Chelsea but seeing his team knocked out on penalties.

His goal-laden performances for the youth team were also rewarded with a solitary call-up for the club's reserve team, which competes in Spain's third-tier Segunda B Division. So Ansu's first taste of professional football, in March this year, came in a distinctly underwhelming manner: an unused substitute in Barca B's 1-0 victory at Ebro in front of a couple of hundred spectators.

At that stage, Fati was still a million miles away from first-team football at the Nou Camp. But then came a whirlwind summer.

New contract and first-team debut
The first real sign of just how highly Barca regarded Fati's talents came in July, when much-hyped 16-year-old midfielder Xavi Simons stunned the club by accepting a big-money offer from Paris St-Germain.

The day after Simons' departure, Barca responded by handing Fati a new three-year contract with an eye-watering release clause of 100m euros, sending out a clear message to predators: one of La Masia's crown jewels had been stolen, but Simons would be the only one to slip away.

Even so, Fati was expected to spend this season continuing to play for the youth team - now managed by former goalkeeper Victor Valdes - with occasional bonus outings for Barca B, and he was not included in the senior squad's pre-season trips to Japan and the United States.

Fati wasn't even considered for selection in Barca's season opener against Athletic Bilbao, but when that game resulted in Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele suffering injuries, joining skipper Lionel Messi on the sidelines, manager Ernesto Valverde was suddenly left with a serious shortage of numbers in attack and called Fati into the squad for the home opener against Real Betis.

The 16-year-old made it to the bench and, with his team leading 5-1 and the game already won, was introduced as a substitute for the final 10 minutes. Fati instantly looked at home, producing some bright touches on the right wing and earning a warm congratulatory post-match embrace from Messi.

Report
Even better came the following weekend. With Barca trailing 1-0 at half-time against Osasuna, Valverde reacted by calling Fati from the bench during the interval. The decision was vindicated within seven minutes, as Fati rose to meet a right-wing cross from Carles Perez with a pinpoint header into the bottom-left corner, becoming Barca's youngest goalscorer.

Following the deadline-day departure to Celta Vigo of Rafinha - starter in the previous two games - Fati received another promotion from Valverde for Saturday's visit of Valencia, being elevated into the starting line-up for the first time.

Back down to the youth ranks?
Before you anticipate seeing Fati starring at the Nou Camp on a weekly basis, however, there is a clear message from within the club: slow down.

The reality is that Fati has only been able to enjoy his meteoric rise to the first team because Messi, Suarez and Dembele have all been out. When they are fit, the youngster will lose his place. In fact, that has already happened: Fati was taken off after an hour on Saturday for Suarez, who promptly marked his return from injury with two brilliantly taken goals.

And in the wake of Fati's electrifying full debut, there were plenty of words of caution. Valverde emphasised the importance of "our job to protect the player", while defender Clement Lenglet added: "We have to be calm with him. He needs to listen to people and work hard, because playing for Barca is very difficult."

Despite the teenager's stellar start to the campaign, it remains the case that Barca's first-choice forward line this season will be Messi, Suarez and Antoine Griezmann, and the most Fati can hope to achieve is competing with Dembele for the status of first-choice back-up.

Is there a way back for Barca-target Neymar at PSG?
And that could be a closely fought battle. Valverde has never been truly convinced by Dembele, who is supremely gifted and frustratingly erratic in equal measure, and pundit Michael Robinson came down in Fati's favour during his television commentary on Saturday's game against Valencia, observing: "Fati on the pitch already looks more mature than Dembele."

Fati certainly looks the part. He generally plays on the left wing (he wore the number 11 shirt in Barca's youth teams), cutting inside to run at defenders or shoot with his stronger right foot. But he is also comfortable using his left foot, demonstrated by his assist for De Jong on Saturday, and at 5ft 10in he has a powerful frame and offers a good aerial threat, as shown by his excellent headed goal at Osasuna.

The fact Fati has already scored a header, a goal with his right foot and an assist with his left foot after just two hours of senior football is a neat indication of his all-round talents, and Barca fans are eager to see a lot more of him.

More immediately, though, Fati could receive the chance to shine on the international stage: the Spanish federation is reported to be rushing through the necessary paperwork to allow him to represent the country in the forthcoming Fifa Under-17 World Cup, which will be staged in Brazil in October and November.

Remember the name. Even now, Ansu Fati is becoming impossible to forget.

Dortmund in the Champions League, his team said in a statement on Wednesday, with Spanish media reporting that the Spain international will be out for around two weeks.

The left back was forced off in the 40th minute of Tuesday’s Group F game and replaced by Sergi Roberto.

Barca’s statement did not say how long Alba would be out, but newspaper AS said he would be sidelined for two weeks, ruling him out of Barca’s La Liga games at Granada, at home to Villarreal and away to Getafe.

He is expected to return in time for Barca’s next Champions League game at home to Inter Milan on Oct. 2.

Alba’s injury hands an opportunity to Junior Firpo, the left back who joined Barca from Real Betis for 18 million euros (15.9 million pounds) in the close season but who has only played nine minutes of first team football so far.

Barca are fifth in the La Liga standings on seven points after four games.

Robert Lewandowski made it nine goals in five Bundesliga matches as champions Bayern Munich comfortably beat Cologne.

Lewandowski rounded off a swift passing move as the hosts led after three minutes and doubled his tally with a header shortly after half-time.

Summer addition Philippe Coutinho scored his first Bayern goal with a retaken penalty after the visitors' Kingsley Ehizibue was shown a red card.

Substitute Ivan Perisic then fired low into the corner for his side's fourth.

Victory against promoted Cologne sees Bayern remain undefeated after five matches and return to winning ways after drawing 1-1 with RB Leipzig last weekend.

The champions made the perfect start as Joshua Kimmich played Lewandowski through, and they almost added a second 10 minutes later as Coutinho's curling free-kick struck the post.

Kimmich got his second assist when Bayern's in-form striker Lewandowski headed in from his inviting corner.

Despite Lewandowski chasing a hat-trick, Coutinho was allowed to take the penalty after defender Ehizibue bundled him over in the area.

The Brazilian's initial strike down the middle was ruled out due to players encroaching in the area, but the Barcelona loanee kept his cool to fire into the roof of the net on his second attempt.

Croatian Perisic's effort from the edge of the area with 17 minutes remaining completed a satisfying week for Niko Kovac's side, who opened their Champions League campaign with a 3-0 win over Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday.

Luis Suarez: Striker says Barcelona have a 'tough year ahead'

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez says the club have a "tough year ahead" after their worst league start for 25 years.

Ernesto Valverde's side, champions of Spain in four of the last five seasons, suffered their second defeat of the campaign against Granada on Saturday to drop to seventh in the table.

A return of seven points from five games is their worst since the 1994-95 season under Johan Cruyff.

"It's a worrying defeat, a defeat that hurts," Suarez told AS.

"And it's a defeat that we have to take a real good look at. There are lots of things that we have to improve.

"There's a long way to go yet, but these are the types of games that win you the title.

"We have to be tougher if we're going to win the league. We have a tough year ahead of us."

Barcelona have particularly struggled away from home, without a league win on the road since April, and failed to score in six of their last seven La Liga away games.

They managed just one shot on target throughout the 90 minutes against Granada, despite the second-half introduction of Lionel Messi for his first league appearance of the season after recovering from an ankle injury.

Suarez says his side need to change their approach to away matches in order to be more of an attacking threat.

"What we have to look at is the way we're playing as the away side, because the lack of cutting edge and chances is worrying," Suarez added.

"We're Barcelona, and we have to go out there to win the game - we can't start the way we did."

Lionel Messi suffered an injury on his first start of the season in Barcelona's narrow win over Villarreal at the Nou Camp.

Messi, who had recovered from a calf injury to feature, was replaced at the start of the second half after suffering a thigh problem.

The Argentine, making his 400th La Liga start, provided the corner for Antoine Griezmann to head home off the bar before Arthur made it 2-0.

Santi Cazorla pulled a goal back.

After the game, Barca boss Ernesto Valverde described Messi's injury as a "small problem in the adductor".

"When something happens to Messi, everyone stops, not only on the field, but in the stands as well," he said.

"As a precaution we have decided not to risk it. In theory, it is nothing more but we will see tomorrow how it is."

Although far from their fluent best, Barcelona climbed four places up the table to fourth in La Liga to help ease the pressure on Valverde after a poor start to the season.

After his injury, the Barca captain received treatment on the edge of the pitch before carrying on until half-time.

The forward was replaced by French striker Ousmane Dembele at the start of the second half.

Elsewhere, newly promoted Granada went top of La Liga - level on points with Athletic Bilbao and Real Madrid - after drawing 1-1 at Real Valladolid.

Real Madrid entertain Osasuna on Wednesday (20:00 BST) while Bilbao are at bottom club Leganes (18:00 BST).

Juventus replaced Inter Milan at the top of Serie A after coming from behind to beat newly-promoted Brescia.

Alfredo Donnarumma fired the hosts, who gave a debut to former Liverpool and Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli, into a surprise lead.

An own goal by Venezuela defender Jhon Chancellor levelled the scores before Bosnia-Herzegovina midfielder Miralem Pjanic got the winner.

Juventus were without Cristiano Ronaldo due to an adductor injury.

Balotelli had several chances on his first appearance for his hometown club after completing a four-match suspension that he was handed at Marseille last season as Brescia made Juve work hard for victory.

Real Madrid continued their unbeaten start to the La Liga season by beating Osasuna 2-0 to return to the top of the table.

Manager Zinedine Zidane rested several of his first-team players, including Gareth Bale, before the Madrid derby with Atletico on Saturday.

Despite a strong start by the visitors, Real took the lead when Vinicius Junior curled in his first goal of the season.

Rodrygo added a second with a clinical low strike soon after coming on.

Real, who have won four and drawn two of their league games, are top with 14 points, one ahead of second-placed Atletico.

Barcelona have been fined only 300 euros (£265) by the Spanish Football Federation for their approach to Antoine Griezmann while he was at La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid.

Spanish champions Barcelona signed Griezmann after paying his 120m-euro (£107m) buyout clause on 1 July.

But the federation said Barca broke its rules by negotiating with Griezmann without Atletico's permission.

Atletico believed his buyout clause should have been 200m euros (£179m).

They claimed that Barca began talking to the player in March, when that was the size of his buyout clause.

His cost then dropped to 120m euros at the start of July, which was when he signed for Barca, but Atletico claimed the "commitment of the player and Barcelona was closed" prior to the clause reducing.

The player was absolved of any responsibility by the federation.

Griezmann - who had announced in May he would leave the Madrid side - penned a five-year deal with Barca, which includes an 800m euro (£717m) release clause, to become the world's sixth most expensive signing.

Following the move, Atletico released a statement in which they expressed their "strongest repulsion for the behaviour of both, especially Barcelona".

The Madrid club previously reported Barcelona to Fifa over an alleged illegal approach for Griezmann in December 2017.

Cristiano Ronaldo returned from injury with a goal as Serie A champions Juventus maintained their unbeaten start to the season by beating SPAL.

Ronaldo had missed the win over Brescia with an adductor problem, but powered home a header in the second half.

Juve took the lead through Miralem Pjanic's stunning curling strike on the stroke of half-time.

SPAL keeper Etrit Berisha made stunning saves to keep out close-range headers from Aaron Ramsey and Sami Khedira.

Meanwhile, legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, 41, played his 903rd career game, a record for an Italian player, surpassing former AC Milan defender Paolo Maldini.

Inter Milan, who have won all five games so far under Antonio Conte, can return to the top of the table if they avoid defeat at Sampdoria (kick-off 17:00 BST).
