Tuchel to leave Bayern despite U-turn talks

Manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed he will leave Bayern Munich this summer despite holding talks about a potential U-turn to stay.

It was announced in February the German, 50, would depart with a year left on his contract after a difficult campaign, in which Bayern were beaten to the Bundesliga title by Bayer Leverkusen.

A petition from fans called for Tuchel to stay but the former Chelsea manager says talks "did not reach an agreement".

"Our agreement from February still stands," said Tuchel, who was appointed in March 2023.

Tuchel's final game in charge will be a trip to Hoffenheim on Saturday in Bayern's last match of the Bundesliga season.

After it was announced he would leave, Bayern beat Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals but then suffered a dramatic exit in the semi-finals against Real Madrid.

Bayern have struggled to appoint a replacement for Tuchel since February, while Tuchel has also been linked with, external replacing Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.

The German side wanted to appoint their former midfielder Xabi Alonso but he opted to stay at Leverkusen, while Ralf Rangnick held talks before deciding to remain with the Austrian national team.

Leverkusen's Bundesliga win ended a run of 11 straight titles for Bayern.

Congratulations to Bayern Neverlusen on winning German titles and being invincibles.

German cup final and Europa league final.

Congrats Xavi Alonso on showing why he's best young manager in European football, despite one 🤡 thinking otherwise

Alonso could match the unbeaten treble by the Ajax team in 94-95 than didn't lose a game domestically or in the CL.

Between 1994 and 1996, Ajax completed an unbeaten run of 52 domestic matches + 19 UEFA Champions League matches, while the 1995 year is considered as the peak of that. The 1995 Ajax team remained unbeaten for a full year, in Europe and in domestic league, a run of 48 matches overall. The feat of winning simultaneously both the Champions League and domestic league without a single defeat is a historical achievement unmatched by any other team

Alonso is a special coach no doubt . Bayer have no world superstars, a proper team . The way they play is so good to watch . Tactically brilliant too .

@Mamoon is Arteta better than Alonso ? If Alonso was in charge would Arsenal stand a better of the league ?

Xavi had no pressure at leverkusen

He needs to prove himself in CL

He needs to prove he's not one season wonder

Also sorts of other nonsense

Sure PL is different level but his current side can beat any of the top 4 over two legs . Imagine if he had the money build a team . He knows his style of play & sticks to it . I have no doubt he’ll win the PL one day , hopefully with Liverpool

The achievement he has done in german league is on a par with Leicester winning Premier league. Leverkusen were 17th when he took over. In his 1st full seasons he's won the league unbeaten and with 90 points from 34 games.

Then to get to a europa league final and not lose a game yet, shows he has quality to navigate 2 legged European Ties. Just remember so called "better managers" have been humilated in same europa league.

Only AJax 94/95 have had a better domestic season in terms of not losing games all season.

Regardless of pressure, expectation or any other nonsical excuses - if he wins an unbeatable treble, it's a feat which will be rarely matched regularly

He's probably likely to go to Madrid after Anchelotti leaves, your talking about a team which is so to have mbappe and possibly alfonso Davies and maybe TAA.

Imagine taking over a team like that in a seasons time

Unlike Mikel Arteta he didn’t have excuse and won it on his first season

But but levekusen are a nice family run club and have no pressure. If Alonso had finished 8th it wouldn't make difference to club.

He needs to take a club like Arsenal who have ambition, take them from league Two and rebuild them into a team that celebrates competing. (+/- 1,000 words in copy paste essay)

Players like Luuk De Jong and Joselu are brilliant to have in the squad.

Won’t complain about game time and are capable of winning games from a single cross.

Sadly, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid didn't kept them for more seasons..💔

Arturo Vidal: "Were we better than Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets? Yes, all three were technically spectacular, but they didn't even shoot. Pirlo, Pogba, Marchisio and I were the best midfield I have ever seen. If it wasn't for Messi, we would have won that final."

What do you guys have to say about this one?

Girona have signed Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek on a four-year deal for an initial 500,000 euros (£420,600) from Manchester United

Van de Beek has struggled to establish himself since joining United in a £35m move from Ajax in September 2020.

The Dutchman scored two goals in 62 appearances for United.

He also had a loan spell at Everton and spent the second half of last season at Eintracht Frankfurt.

United say, with additional payments, the fee could reach up to 9.1m euros (£7.66m), while there is also a sizeable sell-on clause.

Girona will play in next season's Champions League after finishing third in La Liga.

Celtic have signed Denmark captain Kasper Schmeichel on a one-year deal after the goalkeeper led his country to the last 16 of Euro 2024

Schmeichel, 37, was a free agent after leaving Belgian club Anderlecht at the end of last season and replaces former Manchester City club-mate Joe Hart, who has retired.

The Dane has amassed 105 international caps and will join his new team-mates in the United States, where the Scottish champions are on tour.

"Celtic is one of the world’s proper football clubs, a massive name and a place of real passion and success," he told the club website. Celtic is what football is all about."

Schmeichel is best known for his 11-year stint with Leicester City, during which the club won an improbable Premier League crown in 2016.

He would later work with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers at King Power Stadium, where the pair claimed the 2021 FA Cup and subsequent FA Community Shield.

"He (Rodgers) is a top manager and someone I can't wait to work with again," added the veteran goalkeeper. "I will be doing all I can to keep Celtic on top."

Schmeichel began his career at Manchester City, and spent a season in the Scottish top flight 17 years ago when he was loaned to Falkirk, before brief spells at Notts County and Leeds.

After leaving Leicester, he played a season at Nice, and moved to Belgium in the summer of 2023.

He made 33 appearances for Anderlecht, keeping eight clean sheets.
