Ferguson named Serie A midfielder of the year

Scotland international Lewis Ferguson has been presented with the Bulgarelli Number 8 Award, given to the best midfielder in Serie A for the season.

The Bologna captain had enjoyed a stellar season as his side hunt down a Champions League spot, before he suffered a campaign-ending knee injury in April.

Prior to the blow, Ferguson was one of the top performers in the Italian top-flight, scoring six times and registering four assists in 31 league appearances.

Previous winners of the award include Daniele De Rossi, Nicolo Barella and Sandro Tonali.

The 24-year-old will miss this summer's Euros in Germany having undergone surgery.

France's all-time leading goalscorer Olivier Giroud will leave AC Milan at the end of the season to move to Major League Soccer.

The 37-year-old striker lifted the Serie A title in 2021-22 and has scored 48 goals and made 20 assists in 130 appearances for the Italian club.

It is expected that he will join his international team-mate Hugo Lloris at Los Angeles FC.

Congratulations to Bayern Neverlusen on winning German titles and being invincibles.

German cup final and Europa league final.

Congrats Xavi Alonso on showing why he's best young manager in European football, despite one 🤡 thinking otherwise

Alonso could match the unbeaten treble by the Ajax team in 94-95 than didn't lose a game domestically or in the CL.

Between 1994 and 1996, Ajax completed an unbeaten run of 52 domestic matches + 19 UEFA Champions League matches, while the 1995 year is considered as the peak of that. The 1995 Ajax team remained unbeaten for a full year, in Europe and in domestic league, a run of 48 matches overall. The feat of winning simultaneously both the Champions League and domestic league without a single defeat is a historical achievement unmatched by any other team

Alonso is a special coach no doubt . Bayer have no world superstars, a proper team . The way they play is so good to watch . Tactically brilliant too .

@Mamoon is Arteta better than Alonso ? If Alonso was in charge would Arsenal stand a better of the league ?

Xavi had no pressure at leverkusen

He needs to prove himself in CL

He needs to prove he's not one season wonder

Also sorts of other nonsense

Sure PL is different level but his current side can beat any of the top 4 over two legs . Imagine if he had the money build a team . He knows his style of play & sticks to it . I have no doubt he’ll win the PL one day , hopefully with Liverpool

The achievement he has done in german league is on a par with Leicester winning Premier league. Leverkusen were 17th when he took over. In his 1st full seasons he's won the league unbeaten and with 90 points from 34 games.

Then to get to a europa league final and not lose a game yet, shows he has quality to navigate 2 legged European Ties. Just remember so called "better managers" have been humilated in same europa league.

Only AJax 94/95 have had a better domestic season in terms of not losing games all season.

Regardless of pressure, expectation or any other nonsical excuses - if he wins an unbeatable treble, it's a feat which will be rarely matched regularly

He's probably likely to go to Madrid after Anchelotti leaves, your talking about a team which is so to have mbappe and possibly alfonso Davies and maybe TAA.

Imagine taking over a team like that in a seasons time

Unlike Mikel Arteta he didn’t have excuse and won it on his first season

But but levekusen are a nice family run club and have no pressure. If Alonso had finished 8th it wouldn't make difference to club.

He needs to take a club like Arsenal who have ambition, take them from league Two and rebuild them into a team that celebrates competing. (+/- 1,000 words in copy paste essay)

Montero named Juventus boss until end of season

Paolo Montero will be in charge of Juventus for the final two games of the season following the sacking of Massimiliano Allegri.

Former Uruguay defender Montero won four Serie A titles with Juventus as a player during nine years at the club from 1996 to 2005.

The 52-year-old returned to Juve as under-19s coach in 2022 but will now lead the senior side for Monday's game at Bologna and the season finale at home to Monza next Sunday.

"Paolo is a Juventus legend, firstly on the pitch, and someone who has long been a bearer of the club's DNA on the bench," said Juventus,, external who have drawn their last five league matches and are currently fourth in Serie A, 25 points behind champions elect Inter Milan.

Allegri led the Turin side to a 1-0 win over Atalanta in the Italian Cup but was sacked two days later on 17 May for what the club described as "certain behaviours deemed incompatible with the values of Juventus".

He was sent off late in the final for ranting at match officials before then waving away the club's sporting director during the celebrations.
