In an exclusive interview with PakPassion, Iqra Farooqui and Salman Abbasi, directors of the USA-based Kingsman cricket setup, outlined their ambitious vision for the newly acquired Hyderabad franchise in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Following their successful bid of PKR 1.75 billion ($6.25 million), the duo emphasized that this venture is more than just a tournament appearance—it is a long-term commitment to the region's cricket ecosystem.
Key highlights of the interview:
The Hyderabad Connection: For the ownership group, Hyderabad was non-negotiable. They viewed the city as the only viable option for their entry into the league, citing its rich potential and passionate fan base.
Jason Gillespie as Head Coach: In a major move, the franchise announced former Australian fast bowler and ex-Pakistan Test coach Jason Gillespie as their inaugural head coach.
Domestic Core: The owners believe that local talent is the engine of any successful PSL team, stating, "Your tournament will be won by your domestic players."
Auction Advocacy: Unlike the traditional draft system, the group supported the shift to a player auction from day one, viewing it as a vital step for the league's commercial and professional growth.
Management Autonomy: They intend to provide the captain and coaching staff full "freedom in the world," focusing on empowerment rather than micro-management.
Year-Round Commitment: Rejecting the "10-month disappearance" typical of some franchises, the directors pledged to build a 365-day development system to nurture talent in Hyderabad and across Pakistan throughout the year.
