In this exclusive and interview, Pakistan all-rounder Aamer Jamal opens up on his painful journey from a Test debut hero to being sidelined without a central contract. The 29-year-old reveals shocking mismanagement by the PCB medical staff, explains why he had to pay for his own medical treatment in England, and discusses the complete lack of communication from selectors about his future — and much more.

Key topics include:
  • PCB medical negligence: Aamer Jamal exposed serious lapses in his medical treatment by the PCB when he said, "There were a couple of things in my MRI which was not being diagnosed properly in Pakistan." This suggests that critical issues in his injury were overlooked or misread, potentially delaying proper treatment and worsening his condition during his time under the Pakistan Cricket Board’s care.
  • Self-funded comeback: Despite having a central contract with the PCB, Aamer revealed, "I've spent every single penny" on his treatment in the UK. This highlights his personal financial sacrifice and determination to recover, bearing the cost of overseas medical care independently because of inadequate support at home.
  • Communication gap with selectors: Jamal lamented a lack of communication from the board’s selectors, stating, "Nobody spoke to me" regarding his central contract status or future selection prospects. This indicates a breakdown in dialogue leaving him uncertain about his career standing and feeling neglected by team management.
  • Action controversy: Responding to criticism about his bowling action, Aamer firmly stated, "Why would I change my action?" implying his confidence in his natural bowling technique and questioning the rationale behind doubts or calls for modification from critics within the system.
  • Mental health struggles: Describing the toll of his injury and treatment challenges, Aamer shared, "I couldn't sleep," revealing the mental anguish and physical pain he endured, underscoring how deeply the ordeal impacted his psychological well-being beyond just the physical injury.
  • Comeback mission: Despite setbacks, Aamer expressed determination by saying, "I trust the process." He is actively working his way back through the ranks, including performing in grade cricket, with the goal of earning a recall to the national team and continuing his professional career.

All this happened because of 1 thing only, that number on his hat.

Anyway, aamer has to improve his performance also. Have not seen him doing well recently. I think he should have been selected for Shaheens' tour, but..

Hope so he gets back among some runs or wickets and makes a comeback

A highly over rated cricketer that got lucky in Australia because the Australian side was garbage.

I read his story on his struggles and all. You know the political situation and whats happening, why would you do that.

When it comes to representing Pakistan, whether you are a sportsman or a govt employee, you are required to hide your political affiliations. These things can damage your career.

Im glad that he is with Zalmi as Javed Afridi is a guy that stands up for his players

We have been struggling to find a pace-all-rounder for years. Now that we find one, we fail to nurture him...PCB is its own worst enemy.

Jamal has fire in his belly. If he has actually recovered from injury, I'm sure he will crush it in domestic cricket, but whether selectors pick him will be another question. He has clearly been left out due to politics. How is it that Hussain Talat can land a central contract but Jamal can't??? It's a joke.

Jamal has a lot of potential with the ball, but needs to work on his accuracy. He sprays it around a lot. But if he has recovered from injury hopefuly he will improve on that front.

Lastly, as much as like Aamer, players like him and Wasim Jr should not have be selected for the Shaheen's tour imo. We already know what they are made of. Let younger, uncapped guys play for Shaheens.

You are right but aamer jamal has no real performance to show in recent times... He needs to work on his accuracy and for that, I think he needs to play longer format... t20 cricket might not help him in this.
