Mike Hesson Reflects on Islamabad United’s Success and Exciting New Season
“Last season was my first with Islamabad United, and I have to say, it’s an incredible franchise. A huge amount of credit goes to Ali Naqvi and Amna Naqvi for creating an environment where success thrives. The key to that success is the empowerment they provide — they let you make decisions while ensuring accountability, with the right people entrusted to handle cricketing matters.
I’ve built a great relationship with Rehan Ulhaq, Shadab Khan, and the leadership group, and that cohesion has been vital. Salman Ali Agha has been a breath of fresh air with his insights, while Azam Khan, who many don’t see as ‘that guy,’ has emerged as a crucial part of our leadership group. Naseem Shah is an absolute superstar, and Imad Wasim’s experience adds so much value to the team.
As defending champions, we’re proud of our outstanding local core, which was retained. Heading into the draft, our focus was on complementing that group, and we’re thrilled to have secured all our targets. Pakistan fans should definitely keep an eye on Riley Meredith — his pace is something special.
I can’t wait to see how the season unfolds as we look to build on what we achieved last year.”
