In this exclusive interview, former England opener and renowned commentator Nick Knight discusses his impressions of PSL 2026, the evolution of T20 batting, and his memories of facing the fastest spells in cricket history. The 16,000 first-class run-scorer opines on the form of Saim Ayub, the talent of Sameer Minhas, and the unique mental pressures of being a Pakistani cricketer — and much more.

Key revelations include:

• Advice for Saim Ayub: "Watch that ball and let your instincts and flair take over" - Knight offers advice to the young left-handed batter, urging him to "watch the ball" and ignore the "noise" or distractions that come with fame. He believes Ayub’s talent remains, but his decision-making can be improved by simplifying his focus back to the ball.

• The Shoaib Akhtar story: "I'm going to bowl very quick at you today" - Knight recalls the famous 100.2 mph delivery from the 2003 World Cup. He explains that after facing a spell of 98-99 mph, your senses become "in tune" with the speed. He also shares a lighthearted story of Akhtar "warning" him in the warm-ups that he was going to bowl exceptionally fast that day.

• Sameer Minhas assessment: "I think he is a wonderful talent" - Knight praises Minhas as an intelligent player. Rather than just raw power, Knight looks for how a player uses the crease and positions themselves before the ball hits the bat—qualities he sees in Minhas.

• Pakistan Cricket Pressure: "I have so much admiration for them" - He expresses long-standing concerns about the future of the five-day game, noting that while fans of short-form cricket are enjoying the current direction, the traditional format is under pressure as T20 takes over.

• Babar Azam's approach: "The values that they have to accept are changing" - He defends Babar Azam against strike-rate criticisms, explaining that Babar belongs to a generation taught to value their wicket above all else. Transitioning to the high-risk nature of T20 requires a mental shift, but his role remains vital, especially when a team loses early wickets.

• Commentary Challenges: "The pod is the greatest invention" - Knight clarifies that he is leaving the PSL early (around the 18th) due to a family bereavement but will return to commentary for the IPL later in April/May.
