Faf Du Plessis comments from an interview today

“It’s great to be here in Pakistan. It’s been something I’ve looked at from outside, the PSL. The standard is very good and to join a franchise that has been successful is what you want as a player, you want to go to a team that has won trophies. I’ve come here hoping to play a part in us getting to the final and getting a trophy.

“I’ve been fortunate that when I was SA U19 captain back in the day, we did a Test tour here. That was the start of my career. Fast forward 12-13 years and I came back here to captain the World XI side for 3 T20Is and that was a special moment for me. I could see Pakistan fans were excited to see cricket back. Obviously, we’re now in the process of getting international cricket fully back in Pakistan. It’s good to see things getting back to how they were.

“I’ve played quite a bit of cricket against Shoaib Malik, always been on the receiving end of him scoring some runs so he’s a good experienced cricket so he’s probably one guy I’ll enjoy playing with.

“It’s exciting for me to join a league for the first time that I haven’t been a part of. The PSL’s standard is really good and it’s good for me to come and test my skills in another tournament where you play against some top-class cricketers.”

Maybe just one game to show his worth! But hope he makes a difference for PZ.

No mention of PZ on his Instagram. another one who would rather be a low-key PSL player

Hope to see him in PSL again. He is one of my favorite cricketers. Great guy and a gutsy cricketer.

Lot expected of him tonight - batting at the moment but needs to give PZ the base they need for a big score.

Out for 31 when it looked as if he could get a big score!

He is a thorough professional but it will be hard for him to motivate himself.

He is fresh from a mentally taxing season with CSK and now he is playing in a low-stake tournament where he can pick up easy money for the next 5 years even if he barely performs.

The problem with scheduling PSL right after IPL is that it is very difficult to motivate these IPL stars to perform, considering the gap between the quality of the leagues and the respective stakes are so huge.

Scheduling PSL before IPL is better because the IPL players are not fresh from playing in a vastly superior league.

Was he even on the field for Zalmi’s bowling? Didn’t see him anywhere

He batted pretty well in his debut. Shame Zalmi are out so we won't see him again. Hopefully he returns for the next edition, providing he doesn't have International commitments.

I wonder if they should have made him captain and whether that would have made much of a difference for PZ?

Saj bro, can you please confirm if he was on the field during the Zalmi innings? Why wasnt Wahab and Malik consulting him instead of having captain's conferences with Imam ul Haq? I swear I didnt see him once during the entire innings

Great excuse for him for not scoring that 25 ball hundred which he should have scored to expose PSL bowling standards...

"He needs to motivate himself" :))) :)))

Seriously, they cant stay fresh after playing 10, 20 over games? Thats equivalent to 1 and a half test matches at most. Either they arent fit enough or your statement is just an excuse to consistently downgrade the psl for no reason. Most people here know that ipl is a higher stake tournament but they dont need to continuosly strive to prove it.

It is not about duration. 14 T20 matches in a high pressure, high intensity tournament like IPL is mentally grueling, especially when your team is having a bad season like CSK did.

Faf spent 2 months in that environment and within a few days, he was thrusted into a low-budget, low stake tournament that is basically a cheap imitation of IPL, and people expect him to perform right away.

He didn’t score a century in his first and only game and our delusional fans think that it is validation of the laughable assertion that PSL bowling is better than IPL bowling.

It simply exposes the mentality and the thinking process of our fans. We are so deluded it is unbelievable.

No. You are delusional to the point that you so damn wish we were this delusional. We have always been respectful of cricket and cricketers, it is you that has been disrespecting Pakistan and non big 3 teams for a very, very long time. You will continue to be trolled no matter what.

We’ve had years of this guy tormenting us genuine cricket fans with comments such as ‘Pakistan has no aukaat, PSL has no Aukaat, PSL bowling standards are mediocre because they bowl to mediocre batsmen etc.

So when a real Gun player who is fresh off the last IPL with an average of 40 scoring 450 runs at a strike rate of 140 turns up to play his debut game against those mediocre bowlers, he couldn’t get his side over the line! Love it when this guy is left embarrassed when his bias and B.S is exposed.

Thankyou BCCI for this experience lol

Coming in to a lower profile cheap imitation league with lesser at stake, against a mediocre bowling attack alongside the poor feilding all of which u yourself have stated shouldnt faf have scored atleast a 40 or 50. But it is true he should not be expected to preform everytime. Similar to how pakistan after spending 2 months in quarantine and a social bubble and while playing their first odi series in over a year lost to zimbabwe. However pakistan is mediocre for losing and for not preforming as expected while if someone in good form fails to preform against mediocre bowlers then he has to be defended at all cost and psl should be critisized for paying him money to play.

Yes he was there.

But as you rightly point out, his profile was low, with the skipper and Malik making the decisions.

Surely Faf should have been asked for his opinion - or perhaps he should have come forward himself to give his ideas.

Faf getting his first game of PSL 6 for Quetta against Peshawar. He has started very brightly, 37 from 25 so far.

You are a CSK fan?

I am as well, not happy with the auction at all. Shane Watson was not replaced adequately. Also held onto some overseas players who we hardly use.

Born and bred in Chennai mate, why wouldn't I support CSK.

Actually CSK are generally terrible in the auctions but I was pleasantly surprised by the picks this year. Let's be honest, the wickets in Chepauk are known for being turners. And so Moeen was a great pick in that context as he can both hit the ball and can spin it as well. Perfect pick imo.

Gowtham is one of India's best domestic spinners and he can hit the ball too, he was bought for an overpriced rate but doesn't matter. He has won a lot of games for Karnataka against Tamil Nadu in the finals of domestic T20 competitions, so he has ability. Would have liked a middle order hitter but we have to make do with what we have.

Apprentley the tournament will be held mostly in Mumbai so not sure how much a part spin will play. Maybe later in the tournament.

I really wanted a replacement for Watson. There was plenty of options . Looks like Faf and Gaikwad will be the openers.

Big loss for Quetta - looked to be settling in well.

76 runs in 4 innings at an average of 19.

Poor by any standards.

Cricket not treating head injuries correctly - just asking what's your name should not be enough to continue.

I don't have a solution to this but surely medical science and docs can come up with a better way to judge injuries. Clearly Faf has suffered something bad.

Not good for Faf

We pray that he gets better soon.

This is not good news. I hope and pray he gets better soon. Always has been one of my favorite cricketers.

Yea there’s something definitely wrong behind the scenes…a normal concussion takes 2 weeks to recover from.

South Africa batsman Faf du Plessis said he is at the end of a "tough three months" after suffering a concussion, as the 37-year-old aims to return to action.

Du Plessis suffered some memory loss after sustaining a concussion during a Pakistan Super League match in June following his collision with a team mate when he tried to save a boundary.

After failing to recover from the concussion, he missed the inaugural Hundred competition in England. But Du Plessis is now confident of getting back on the field for Saint Lucia Kings, whom he will captain in the Twenty20 Caribbean Premier League.

"It has been a tough three months," Du Plessis said. "I didn't expect it to take this long and I also didn't expect it to be quite as severe.

"But I feel like I am at the end of it, which really is pleasing for myself.

"There's a lot of cricket this year that I still need to play. As I mentioned earlier, missing three months of cricket is not something that is very nice. So I am just really looking forward to getting back out on the field."

Good comeback from the concussion injury with a century today in the CPL.

However, not sure if his runs are indicative of anything given that the quality of the bowling attack for St Kitts left much to be desired.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Abu Dhabi was halted for a while after CSK opener Faf du Plessis bumped into RR pacer Mustafizur Rahman at the non-striker’s end. The impact of collision on the South African batter seemed serious as he knelt down in pain and the team physio had to be called.

The incident happened on the penultimate ball of the sixth over. Du Plessis took off to steal a quick single after chipping a length ball towards mid-off. Since he kept his eyes on the ball, the CSK opener didn’t anticipate the presence Mustafizur at the non-striker’s end. As a result, both players collided and fell on the ground.

Du Plessis looked miffed and then he was down in pain. After getting checked by the physio, he was back in action. However, he fell prey to Rahul Tewatia in the next over. Probably the concentration was hampered after the incident as it was the first delivery he faced after getting back at the crease. He got stumped for 25, while attempting to hit a good length ball.

Earlier, RR captain Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to bowl against CSK. The Royals made four changes to their playing eleven, dropping Mahipal Lomror, Liam Livingstone, Riyan Parag, Kartik Tyagi and Chris Morris for Shivam Dube, Glenn Phillips, Akash Singh, David Miller and Mayank Markande.
