What's new

Fakhar Zaman : Have we found the new Sharjeel Khan?

Cut this guy some slack.

It's his forth game. And that too a final vs India.

That's how it is life. You have to take risks, you might get some close calls but that's how it goes.

He isn't going to improve in domestic since the competition level there is so poor.

Only given a fair rub at the big stage can test him out. Let's see how much he improves himself. If you thought that our domestic would provide us with complete packages than you are deluded.

We gotta take any half cooked cake and make a meal out of it.

Nerves impaired his hand eye coordination which exposed his weak technique. But he has calmed down somewhat and is batting in a more assured manner. You don't need the best technique in modern ODIs as evidenced by the likes Hales and Finch. Nerves were understandable on this occasion and he has already shown he is no softie who disappears in tournaments; all 3 of his previous knocks came in do or die games.

Congrts om your fifty boy.

Back to back 50 in knockout mtches.

We need to have rational expectations. Otherwise dissapointment is a given.

First of all stop comparimg newbie players with established players of the world.

Secondly we can not expect our domestic to churn out virat kohli and williamsom.

Lastly domestic cricket cani prove your cricket only in some limits. You need an exposure against top class sides to become worldclass!

Rewatching the highlights - I don't think India knew Fakhar's strength was against spin. They kept bowling Ashwin and Jadeja to him.

Impressed with how well he makes room for that cut shot against spin, those drives and cuts were impeccable.

Yes he got lucky a couple of times with inside edges, but for the most part it was clean hitting.

Think he is fitter (but less talented) than sharjeel. pair him up with another of the up and comers from domestic cricket. that would be nice.

To be honest, sharjeel was a dud against spin when he was not attacking. Fakhar looks much more assured compared to him.

Sharjeel, lets just say it was work in progress but Fakhar at times tries to hit the ball too hard and needs to approach batting in sensible manner. Sharjeel was quite elegant with his supreme hitting and agree he struggled with spin at times.

Had Sharjeel continued his career he would averaged around 32 with the SR in the 90s and Fakhar will be in the same ball park. Both lack hunger and too often chuck their wickets in soft dismissals. But they were miles better than their rivals like Shazad etc.

I expect Fakhar to keep improving under Mickey. Mickey clearly sees the potential in him.

I think that's about par with batsmen of this nature. Those are the stats of known bludgeoners like McCullum as well. I'd be happy if Fakhar/Sharjeel end their careers with 35/90 stats.

It's not like we have lines of Anwars and Tendulkars waiting in line to open for Pakistan.

Fakhar gets the job done. IDC about his technique etc etc.

+ The way he delivered phainta to Ashwin/Jadeja after 25th in CT final: deserves that Pak fans give the guy some slack.

The NZ tour is his big test, if he fails to notch up anything of note we've got to start looking for replacements.

Fakhir, even in CT, never looked as good against pace as Sharjeel was. Sharjeel pull, hook and cut were one of the best not just in Pakistan but of any opener around the world, against 145 clicks bowlers...Nobody in Pakistan has done that in long time...Fakhir mostly scored through french cut in CT within 10 overs, that was not the case for Sharjeel...Fakhir's cricket was mainly daring than skillful against pace, against spin he was superior than Sharjeel, the way he smack Indian spinners was epic for Pakistani fans, and take the oxygen out of Indian team...

Lets hope he improves his skill against pace, NZ series is a big test for him. Otherwise we will be looking for another guy in PSL 3...

I don't think he will make the best T20 batsman. He will be more comfortable in ODIs where he isn't expected to score at 130+ SR from the get go. He can be a lot more patient in ODIs when loose balls are not readily on offer whereas in T20s he has to resort to slogging.

Furthermore he really needs to work on his leg side game. He gets rapped on the pads far too many times and misses out on deliveries that any decent batsman would put away.
