The selection committee has named a 16-member men’s squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, with Salman Ali Agha continuing as captain of the team.

All three matches will be held at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, with the schedule set to be announced soon.

The squad has been selected based on players’ performances in the ongoing HBL PSL X, which concludes on 25 May. This series also marks the first assignment for newly appointed head coach Mike Hesson.

16-member squad (in alphabetical order):

Salman Ali Agha (captain), Shadab Khan (vice-captain), Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Hassan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Haris (wicket-keeper), Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Naseem Shah, Sahibzada Farhan (wicket-keeper) and Saim Ayub

What’s the point of announcing the team if the schedule is not even out. Could’ve waited until the playoffs were done.

Why drop sufiyan all of a sudden??? other guys look ok... That is probably the best squad Pakistan can present atm. Although shadab??? why??? how???

Also explain the inclusion of haris here??? I think heis good enough for away tours only but let's see.

Would have liked Yasir Khan ahead of Talat but there's already 4 openers in the squad.

Biggest question is where salman is gonna adjust fakhar, saim, farhan, hassan nawaz in the playing 11....

Harris Rauf and Naseem should have been rested. Ubaid and Abbas could have replaced them.

Talat and Faheem are useless selections but later will be in Pakistani squads as long as N league is in power :faheem :sharif.

1. Saim
2. Farhan
3. Fakhar
4. Salman
5. Khushdil/Shadab
6. Hassan Nawaz
7. Harris
8. Hassan Ali
9. Naseem
10. Wasim jr
11. Abrar

I am expecting 5-0 with this solid lineup.

Personal opinion/bias aside, based on PSL and continuity this is a pretty good squad.

Personally I would've picked Abbas and Muqeem over Faheem and Talat. Also, and a lot of people will disagree with this, but Rizwan will always be a better option than any other keeper purely on his wicketkeeping skills. Play him at 6, 7 or 8, doesn't matter, the value he brings as a specialist keeper is undeniable. For me a safe keeper is worth a lot more than 15-20 quick runs.

Yeah, it's fine. Although saim isnt justified in the squad. He was poor this psl. Ik people like saim but I dont appreciate players making it based of past hype
do you think Haris's selection is justified based on the same metric???

Saim and Farhan will definitely open if they play. Salman Agha will play at no. 3. That leaves no. 4 position for Fakhar, Hassan and Harris.

Its also interesting to see that they've named Farhan as WK as well.

Only maximum of 3 of them will play. I do not see Fakhar, Saim and Farhan batting anywhere else than as openers under Hesson.

It's a good squad but I wouldn't have selected Haris Ruaf and Naseem Shah just because it's Bangladesh and we can afford to try more players.

Continue with Abbas Afridi even though yes he has been expensive and Khurram could be tried too.

Agreed... Khurram should have been given a chance here instead of haris rauf for sure... Khurram has been brilliant in PSL...Haris has been a run machine

Evil never dies

It hides, it lurks in the shadows, grows stronger, and waits for it’s time to strike again.

Haris actually showed performance. He wasn't consistent but he won some games.

Saim was just awful but its fine since he was injured and it'll take some time to get back to his best

During the last one year Abbas Afridi is the second highest wicket taker for Pakistan 17 wickets @14.52 and an economy rate of 8.05. Similarly Sufyan is fourth with 14@9.35 and economy of 6.04. On the contrary Naseem has 6 wickets @34 and an economy of 9.22. If we extend the period to 2 years, Abbas and Sufyan are the third and fourth highest wicket takers behind Shaheen and Haris.

Harris is there because of no option .
Go back to Rizwan ?
Usman khan ?
Azam khan failed
Haseeb didn’t play PSL

That is reason Farhan is named as WK too. . Lack of options gave Harris another chance

mohammad Haris has been pathetic... Not sure why he is still being hyped that much... He has nothing to show in terms of form that he got selected once again.
Absolutely i am hoping Sahibzada will keep to give balance.

Talat and Rauf are strange selections!

Definitely not deserving.

Abbas Afridi should have been selected or Khurram

No backup wicket keeper is also a concern!

No abdul samad? What is hussain talat odi player doing here? Where is yasir khan, maaz sadaqat? Maaz sadaqat probably an early call. But only one proper spinner in pakistan conditions? They're making the same mistake. Bring in sufyan muqeem if you want to win.

Hussain Talat and Hasan Ali wth --

While Hasan Ali has had a great PSL, I still dont think he's International ready

As for Talat, if the Asia Cup and T20 WC are in Lanka, then I'd rather opt for a spinning all-rounder instead. We already have Rana as a pace all rounder, but i'd rather have gone for Mohammad Nawaz (he is not much better tbh, but still exceeds Talat in all three departments)

I'd also have Sufiyan Muqeen in for Hasan Ali, poor guy didnt have a good PSL, but has done really well for Pak in the last new games he has played. Would be useful in Lanka for sure

He deserved a spot in the side unlike Haris the overhyped keeper batter who did nothing like Usman khan and also any day over shadab as a leggie...
Harris scored at a sr of 150 with an average of 27

What’s Siefert and Mendis’s stats? Will they get to play as keeper batters for their country?

LOL... riz has 52+ avg... 140 strike rate... why not him then??? Just because does not fit the agenda??

BTW, I am happy that Babar and rizwan + shaheen are not given a free ride back in the team but bro, at least try to make some sense...

You tell me why not Rizwan?

You tell me why not Rizwan?
Because he was dropped for right reasons and just 1 PSL is not enough for him to make a comeback... Haris has not done any better and nor he deserves a spot.

This guy is rubbish!

Got hammered every game in the PSL

If anyone should feel aggrieved, it should be Usman Tariq and he should be ahead of Abrar as well

Arif Yaqoob should be the 3rd option spinner
Tbh I’m more concerned about his tendencies to want to be an attention seeker and pushing his agenda through social media.

Weird guy. He seems to be a strange character.

Rana sahab he was pakistan best spinner in new zealand sufiyan shouldn't have been dropped maybe he is only dropped from t20?

Problem with Rizwan is if rr is 10 he'll play at 8 an over, and if rr is 12 he'll play at 10 an over. He is limited, while Haris got gears. He can play at required runrate.

BRO... His stats show something else... Rizwan and usman have matched his stats, riz has better stats.. Nobody can justify his place...

What about many matches rizwan have lost us. It's time to give chance to youngsters now. Stats are misread, He never plays at required runrate while Haris can. Even if Haris is poor, Rizwan is also poor but Rizwan is tested and Haris isn't not tested like rizwan anyways. Anyways people can gauge ability of batsman, and Haris has better power game.

Besides

They are all overlooking the fact that Harris is versatile whilst Rizwan clearly is not.

Harris was doing well for PZ at number 4, but then Babar pushed him to open when Owen left. He changed his approach and went to slash at everything in that position because that’s what he thought was required from him.

He’s always batting for the team. Never forget himself

He is a brainless slogger atm... I don't want rizwan back in the team but Haris is no better... We have seen his failures... And things are not gonna change anytime soon.

This is so true

Actually you are being kind.

If the rr is 10, Rizwan will bat at 6 or 7 expecting the other guy to go at 12-15

Not happy to see two chronically pathetic performer at international level, Faheem and Hasan Ali in the squad , rest is OK.

Was a good opportunity to give a chance to some youngsters pacers like Ali Raza or Obaid Shah against a relatively weaker BD team , but lost the chance .

Honestly, I think Ubaid and Ali Raza are not yet quite ready for internationals. Good raw pace, but need a lot of work in terms of control, not bowling no-balls (ali raza has bowled 6 in this psl so far), and general fitness.

I'd like them to be in the plans for the 2027 WC. And for them to peak for that, i'd like to see them train with someone like Shahbaz Choudry in the UK, play country cricket, and more FC cricket. Otherwise, if they are under the supervision of the PCB at the ages of 17 and 19, they are bound to get injured quickly and discarded.

Really stupid to drop Sufiyan Muqeem, dont think Hussain Talat will do much, Farhan pushed his way back in due to PSL performence, I think he should have a decent tour in Home conditions. Dont like Hasan Ali there either

Some positives is Wasim Jnr and Naseem Shah, also looking forward to seeing what Saim can do again returning to national colors. Ali Raza and Obaid Shah should have been given a chance here.

Hasan Ali, Hussain talat, Faheem , haris rauf and naseem, in form new players deserved to be selected in their place .
agreed
It's getting tougher by the day to figure out the logic behind our national selectors' decisions. Abbas Afridi, Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker in the current PSL and a proven performer under pressure, has been excluded from the T20 squad. Not only has he consistently delivered with the ball, but he’s also chipped in with the bat when it mattered most. Yet somehow, he doesn’t find a place.

In contrast, players like Hussain Talat and Naseem Shah, who haven't exactly set the stage on fire recently, have made the cut. Naseem, especially, hasn’t shown the kind of form that would justify a return to the squad.

If anyone deserved to sit out, it could have been Haris Rauf. His prolonged dip in form has been evident, and dropping him would’ve made more cricketing sense.

PCB has made 8 changes to the T20I squad that played against New Zealand.

Dropped: Shaheen Afridi, Abdul Samad, Abbas Afridi, Jahandad Khan, Sufiyan Muqeem, Omair Bin Yousuf, Usman Khan & Muhammad Ali.

Which player shouldn't have been dropped in your opinion?

Maybe because of his average of 25 and SR 150 in PSL with the bat and average of 14 with the ball 13 wickets in 7 innings

I'm willing to bet whoever's going to open in the first game of this series will open for the rest of the games and subsequent T20I series.

It's Bangladesh at home. Will be easy for openers. The openers will get fans on their way. So it will now depend on luck. Who gets to open.

I’ve been watching Abbas Afridi pretty closely

I understand he’s the top wicket taker atm, but I always got the sense that the guy hasn’t been bowling too well in the past month or so. He’s definitely lost that zing that he used to have a year ago. Also his back of the hand slower ball isn’t as deceptive as it used to be. Alex Hales could see them from a mile away and was sending them out every time, this is a retired international pro btw.

He’s a good cricketer in general so I hope he doesn’t go down the Jahandad/Zaman Khan route.

Keeping quality can be compromised in T20s. Harris is not an atrocius wk either like Azam or Kamran.

Keeping should never be compromised. It’s the most specialized job in the game and should always play the best keeper.

So Abbas Afridi the leading wicket-taker in the PSL and arguably Pakistan's best T20 pacer in the last few years can't find a place in the squad, but Naseem Shah can?

Make it make sense.

He's a wicket-taker and a very wily operator in T20 cricket. You can't judge him based on one performance on one of the flattest pitches in the world. There is no logical justification for dropping him. Especially when he's the leading wicket-taker in the league.

What has Naseem done in T20 to keep getting selected? He has never been a good T20 bowler but seemingly keeps getting selected on reputation.

Disappointing to see the lack of belief the selectors constantly show in Sufiyan Muqeem.

Abbas cant bowl at death, thats why he losses out.

Problem is, Pakistan plays with a strategy where they will never use a spinner in death, Shaheen will get smoked. So because of that Abbas losses out

Sahibzada has mental block against good bowling line up & he's definitely not a keeper.

Abbas Afridi being dropped for Hassan isn't good at all, a backward step. Haris has been out of form & Haider Ali is the only person who I feel should feel bad about missing out. Shaheen hasn't done anything to be selected but neither has Rauf. We will hardly ever win anything with these two as they've proved inadequate in difficult situations.

Haris (k)
Saim
Fakhar
Hassan
Agha (c)
Niazi
Khushdil
Shadab (vc)
Rana sb
Wasim
Nasim

Since Pak has conveyed that they'll play attacking cricket, they should elongate the batting as much as possible & since Rana sb will be in the team he can fit in at 9. I would still have someone like Abbas at his place but then this is what it is so let's go.

“the selection committee and the head coach agreed on the first assignment... When the selection committee finalized the squad, head coach Mike Hesson made changes to the squad... removing three players from the squad and adding his own names...
Those who gave good performances were thrown out...
The selectors had included Abbas Afridi, Sufyan Muqeem and Haider Ali, while head coach Mike Hesson dropped them and added Faheem Ashraf, Hussain Talat and Naseem Shah.
The selection committee wanted to rest Naseem Shah along with Shaheen Shah Afridi.”

First and foremost, why was Faheem Ashraf not being considered in the first place?

worst bowling lineup .. even zimbabwe team have better fast bowlers now

8. Hassan Ali
9. Naseem
10. Wasim jr
Rauf

All 4 should leave cricket and join asylum

Sufiyan , ali raza deserve chances

All good except 3 spots:
1. Haris Rauf
2. Naseem Shah
3. Hussain Talat

First 2 already know what they are capable of and not the top performers in this PSL either.

Replace with Abbas Afridi, and Ali Raza, or Salman Irshad.

3. Not a t20 specialist, mainly accumulator. Likely will not get a game anyway do instead I would have selected Maaz Sadaqat to give him exposure for future.

I think we should add Mohammad Haris and Shadab in this list as well... Tried and tested failures...

Faheem Ashraf 45(23) and (2/33) yesterday. Proving his selection right. I think he did a fine job in PSL and TBH, we don't need Hussain Talat in the presence of Faheem, Khushdil and Wasim. We need a genuine spinner actually.

Where is Abbas Afridi??

He is set to become the next major victim of selector's stupidity.

Coach and selector changes but same old parchi stays or returning. 3-0 to Bangladesh

Parchis:::

Shadab Khan (vice-captain)
Faheem Ashraf
Hasan Ali
Hussain Talat,
Khushdil Shah,
Mohammad Haris (wicket-keeper)
Sahibzada Farhan
