So a 19 year old has more working brain cells than most of our batsmen combined. He retains the shape after a slog, something Fakhar(his biggest problem imo), Sarfraz and Imad lack. Earlier, Moeen Ali has shown that you can comfortably hit sixes if you don't lose shape of your shots while slogging, now Shadab in his little inning showed that as well. Fakhar has been hitting those ugly hoicks a lot recently and someone should tell him stop doing that. Same thing with Sarfraz, seeing him trying to slog is a very poor sight for the viewers, he almost loses his footing while attempting to slog. Imad, although when he plays proper cricketing shots looks reasonable, but when he tries those ugly scoops and sweeps, he almost never touches the ball. Something that was shown during the CT final as well, was apparent today as well when he got leg before for trying to scoop a straight ball on the middle stump.
Add to that, the way Shadab went for a double on the penultimate ball of the over, showed he is mature beyond his age. I don't really expect somthing like that from any of our batsmen. Even a veteran player Shoaib Malik who I respect threw away a match in 2015, against England (3rd t20i), whilst trying to go for a 6 when we needed only 3 of the last 3. Sohail Tanvir did the same thing in 2014. It's sort of a fashion among us Pakistanis to go for the victory with a big slog even if you need just 1 or 2 runs.
Shadab went against the odds and went for a very well placed nudge for a double to get 2 runs easily. He didn't hit it too hard, just pushed it with enough force for it to go it to pass the inner circle while hit it slow enough giving himself the leisure of time to get a double.
This is maturity beyond the years for the young lad.
Hopefully he will keep improving.
Garbage like Shehzad needs to be disposed off quickly now, with batters like Umar Amin, Haris Sohail are waiting on the bench.
Hopefully Shadab will get both mature enough and good enough to bat at no. 6 or no.7 in future.
