The pilot aired a week ago. This show is sort of a spiritual sequel to the original 1996 classic. Starring Martin Freeman(Sherlock) Billy Bob Thornton(Sling Blade, Bad Santa) and Bob Odenkirk (Breaking Bad), the show is about Thornton's character who arrives in a small town and starts spreading violence and mayhem through manipulation and clever lies.

A brilliant first episode which accurately captures the movie's mix of comedy and horrific violence. Freeman is basically playing William H. Macy from the movie with a darker edge and there is a female cop who is similar to Frances McDormand's good natured but perceptive cop. Thornton though is somewhat of a more trollish kin of Anton Chigurh. Much like True Detective, it will be an anthology series with a first season of 10 episodes.

Here's one show I will be keeping my eye on. Rated 9.3 on Imdb.
 
Loved it. Caught it on Channel 4 on Sunday. Martin Freeman is class. Captured the movie's grit, black comedy & atmosphere. Definately one to watch.
 
I won't watch this. It will remind me I live next state over to the East. MN is far better than ND, although that isn't saying much.

The noise from the woodchipper scene in the movie remains the most horrific noise I have heard in a movie. Hopefully, the series will have a scene matching that kind of perfect cocktail of horror and humour.

Looks interesting. There is something about the landscape of that part of the Midwest. The merciless and cruel winter with its icy cold almost inhabitable environment creates a sense of isolation and melancholy with an almost ghoulish presence in the air. Like a deep dread has crept inside everything around. One can almost expect that horrible grisly things can happen in this part of the world as reminded by the wood chopper scene and to balance that with dark folksy comedy one can only expect from a Midwesterner. It was genius on part of the Coen brothers who are themselves from Midwest. Needless to say, sunny California could not have provided the depth and character to that masterpiece.

The show has gotten rave reviews, I'll defiantly watch it.

The feeling I get driving around is one of exposure. The terrain flat as far as far as the eye can see makes me feel exposed: to the elements, to this unstated terror. It is disconcerting to say the least. And in winter, when the flat is totally white, it is bleak beyond anything I've experienced thus far.

I had to go to Central Illinois once, where even the curvature of the earth ceases to exist, apparently, and driving through the cornfields in the evening twilight, I half expected He Who Walks Behind the Rows from Stephen King's Children of the Corn to emerge in my rear view mirror.

Don't move to the Midwest. Trust me.

Strange how landscapes influence people. One time I was driving around the mountainous northern region of Arizona, the famous red mountains enclosing me from all sides. While it was a visually beautiful drive, I couldn't help but feel suffocated by the mountains around me. On the other hand, I also have driven the flat barren landscape of central Illinois, while driving from TN to Chicago and I agree, that was one depressing drive. Due to the flatness of he land and lack of any development around, it almost feels like you are driving aimlessly to nowhere, the landscape for hours pretty much remains exactly the same and if there were no boards to indicate which town you are currently crossing, you would almost feel like you are driving while staying still, if that makes any sense.

As for moving to Midwest, I'm totally with you on that. I would rather go further south than go there. Absolutely depressing weather.

Interesting, the suffocation comment. Midwesterners i talk to say mountains make them claustrophobic. I guess it's all a matter of what one is used to. They make me feel cloistered and cozy.

The weather actually doesn't bother me much. This winter I spent time outside in -35F windchills. Dress in layers, invest in a down parka and boots rated for that temperature and it isn't too bad. It's the terrain that bothers me.

-35F! I would literally die, down parka or not. It gets below 30F here and I am shaking like a leaf. Growing up in Karachi probably has something to do with it.
 
Thornton is acting the hell out of Malvo. He is pure evil but OMG dat swag... You just grudgingly want him not to be caught. Oliver Platt is always a welcome addition to any show/movie.
 
Seen just the 1st episode so far, just getting to know the characters but agree with Thorton being da bomb.

MN is a beautiful state though. I highly recommend New Scenic Cafe on Hwy 61 past Duluth. I had this Prime rib dip sandwich...absolutely divine.

Oh it has a lot going for it no doubt. Very educated populace, stellar arts and museum scene, liberal politics (with the exception of Mrs. Bachmann), clean, safe, organized, "Minnesota Nice" Scandinavians, excellent schools and libraries for the kids, jobs, affordable housing, low cost of living, and many authentic restaurants.

Its just not right for me. I have family in the Northeast, and being so far away, and expatriates to boot, is incredibly lonely. Its not that I got to see my parents every day in Pennsylvania, but it was a comfort to know that they were a short drive away.

And I simply must be able to see hills, if not mountains, every day. The 10,000 Lakes do nothing for me. Or any other bodies of water for that matter.
 
Seen the first 2 episodes and so far seems pretty interesting - let's see how the story develops
 
Can't believe folks don't watch this show. To me, it's miles ahead of True Detective which admittedly had a superb intriguing mystery but too much of MM blabbering on in that grating drawl. Fargo is a very rich show which evokes the best stuff put out by legends like David Lynch, Coen brothers and even Tarantino. Funny, disturbing, suspenseful, surprising- it's a delightful little gem.

Oh and Martin Freeman proves he can act. I mean REALLY act.
 
One of the best TV shows for me- up there with Breaking Bad. Billy Thornton's portrayal of the protaganist is cold & chilling.

It manages to capture the dark atmosphere of the movie ( my fav of all time). Fine allround performances from Martin Freeman to Allison Tomson.

A must watch.
 
This show is shot in Calgary, and it is a huge co-incidence that their crew/tech team are based in the same building as my office. Was happy to meet a lot of them recently :)

Met Martin Freeman back in 2014 during lunch time. Got a picture with him, very chilled dude.
Most of the time we are saying hello/hi to the tech crew in the hallways or at the coffee shop. Actors rarely visit the office for some reason.

Nice!

Freeman was one of the best parts about Season 1. The way he started out just like his other roles and slowly became darker.
 
Season 2 begins soon...according to reviews, it is so far better than season 1. Cannot wait.
 
Just got through the first 3 episodes, so far it's right up there with Season 1, if not better!
 
The last two episodes of season 2 were a bit anticlimactic. But this show will go down as one of the greatest.
 
Series finale was a bit of a let down, the ufo bs plus the way they wrapped up the alien symbols was weak.

For me the real finale was the previous episode, when all remaining Gearhardts get wiped out (they made the show), the final episode just wrapped up some loose end badly and I was not really bothered what happens to Ed and Peggy in the end.

Mike Milligan's desk job in the end was funny.

looking forward to SE3 in 2017 which probably follows Hanzee taking the 2 kids under his wings to make them cold blooded killers, hope we see Malvo again.
 
wow this is amazing. Saw season 1 a year ago but just started season 2.

Those 2 kids were wrench and numbers, the deaf and the mute. Season 3 is taking place in 2014 or something like that.

First season is incredible, far better than true detective. Although second season was an absolute let down, didn't like it as much as the first one.
 
First episode of season 3 came out yesterday. Amazing just like I expected. I recommend this show to anyone who hasn't watched it. One of the best ever
 
Watched the first season, that was exceptional probably falls under the radar due to anthology format but it is excellent. Have not got around to checking out season 2

Second is even better. And if yesterday's episode is anything to go by then the third will be even better

Really, I thoroughly loved the cast in the first! did watch the pilot of season 2 and was intrigued but did not continue because I wanted to savour watching the rest of the episodes at a later date :)) strangely have not managed to finish the fargo movie either, recall watching the first half but didn't finish it, the tv show creator is a very talented writer
 
Season 1 was awesome, Billy Bob Thornton deserved some sort of award.

Stopped watching season 2 after a few episodes but will try again.

Second season didn't have as great a character as Billy Bob Thorntons's but it was better as a whole

Billy Bob Thornton won a golden globe for fargo KingKhan and was nominated for an emmy I believe.

Have any of you guys seen the Amazon original TV series Goliath? it stars Billy Bob Thornton in a lead role as a washed up lawyer, Billy Bob won another golden globe for best actor in a television drama. Tempted to check it out with Billy being one of my favourite actors.
 
Anyone watching season 3? into episode 7 now and feeling disappointed, the storyline and none of the characters are interesting enough except for maybe the VM Varga chap, but overall no where near as gripping as the Lester-Malvo, Gerhardts-Hanzi and Kansas city mob.

Varga and his two goons are Malvo times three. They're cold and ruthless killers like Malvo.

Really love McGregors double performances.

The season is coming into life with three more episode left. Last episode ended on a cliffhanger, but we got to see a character from season 1 as well.
