This was predicted a month ago when Turkey and Syria were hit.

The higher authorities then warned South Asia of a possible earthquake of similar magnitude.

May the Almighty have mercy.

May Allah have mercy. Just spoke to my family back in Pakistan and they told me about the earthquake. I pray that everyone is safe.

A 6.8 magnitude earthquake — with its epicentre being the Hindu Kush region — jolted parts of the country on Tuesday, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

The US Geological Survey said the quake rocked Afghanistan as well and the quake epicentre was 40 kilometres south-southeast of the Afghan town of Jurm.

According to AFP, witnesses said that the strong earthquake lasting for at least 30 seconds was felt across much of Pakistan on Tuesday night.

“People ran out of their houses and were reciting the Quran,” an AFP correspondent in Rawalpindi said, with similar reports coming from Islamabad, Lahore and elsewhere in the country.

Dawn News reported that shocks were felt in Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Jhelum, Sheikhupura, Nowshera, Multan, Swat, Shangla and other places.

TV footage showed citizens out on the streets from their homes and buildings after the quake shocks were felt.

Rescue 1122 director general Dr Khateer Ahmad said the department had received a phone call each from Swabi and Lower Dir on which rescue teams were despatched.

“No confirmed reports of any loss of life or property have been received yet. Rescue 1122 is on high alert and ready to provide services during any emergency,” he said.

So far there have been no confirmed reports of casualties.

India’s ANI news agency reported that tremors were felt in the country’s capital New Delhi.

Strong tremors, lasting for nearly two minutes, were felt in several north Indian states after a 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan on Tuesday evening. This was the second earthquake to hit Afghanistan today.

The quake struck 133 km southeast of Fayzabad in Afghanistan, according to National Centre for Seismology.

Afghanistan is frequently hit by earthquakes, especially in the Hindu Kush mountain range, which lies near the junction of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates.

Tremors were also felt across various cities in Pakistan.

Videos shared on social media show people gathered on the streets and people reported objects falling inside their homes.

Many people came to open spaces in residential buildings as tremors were felt for a while.

No deaths or injuries were immediately reported.

Quite scary. First one was low one that I didn't felt but my mother felt. Than within a minute the stronger one came.

It was quite powerful. Hopefully everyone is safe

Was on the phone to my father and he had to hang up quickly. Alhumdulilah they are fine.

Hope everyone here and their family members are ok.
