Several pedestrians have been injured after being hit by a van near a mosque in London.

Witnesses said the vehicle veered off the road into worshippers leaving Finsbury Park Mosque shortly after midnight.

Footage showed injured people motionless on the pavement as angry crowds surrounded a white man believed to be the driver.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said officers were called at 12.20am.

"Officers are on the scene with other emergency services," he added. "There are a number of casualties being worked on at the scene. There has been one person arrested. Enquiries continue."

Police did not confirm claims Muslims leaving the mosque after Tarawih prayers performed for the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

As unconfirmed reports swirled, former EDL leader Tommy Robinson, real name Stephen Lennon, was condemned for accusing the mosque of past links with extremists.

“I genuinely hope the innocent people targeted tonight outside the mosque are ok,” he later wrote on Twitter.

The London Ambulance Service said it had sent a number of resources to the scene but could not immediately be reached to confirm details of casualties.

Part of Seven Sisters Road has been closed as the operation continues.

It came weeks after three Isis supporters rammed a van into pedestrians on London Bridge before rampaging through Borough Market with knives, killing eight people before being shot dead by police.

There was no immediate suggestion the incident in Finsbury Park was terror-related.

Apparently guy got out of van shouting 'kill all muslims'

This is him being arrested and put in police van and he shows his contempt for his victims by waving at them

Disgusting terrorist attack.

May the guilty be brought swift justice.

Isis supporters will be rejoicing. This is exactly what they wan't. Sectarian violence and causing a rift between Muslim and non-Muslim communities. And driving more of the brainwashed into their arms.

I suppose it was inevitable given the worldwide hysteria at the moment. At least it was only one man, the time to be worried is when this sort of thing is planned and organised, which by it's very nature is unlikely.

This is what happens when the powers that be liberally indulge in demagoguery.

Constantly asking the Muslim community to denounce every attack carried out by a Muslim doesn't distinguish between the radical and the mainstream but reinforces the perceived ideological link to the wider population.

Hope no one was seriously injured and get well soon, pathetic :@

In the aftermath of the recent events to be fair I noticed more people who emphasised standing united with the muslims rather then demonize them for what the radicals do, that is barring the usual joey's from the right like Tommy Robinson; the man in the OP probs is the sought of guy inspired by his rhetoric.

History doesn't repeat itself but it does rhyme.

I think it's a distinct possibility rather than unlikely.

Let's be honest, there a massive percentage of the worlds population is baying for the end of days and the mother of all battles. Be it bearded Muslims, evangelical suited American Christians or Israeli Jewish fundamentalists to name a few.

Hopefully sense prevails.

True but there a multiple factors and play and people only usually see things from perspective. The are no innocent power players here. The only innocents are the general people that are being manipulated.

The fact is that there is a narrative championed by those who claim to represent the left that Muslims by their very nature are incompatible with the west and a threat to western civilisation.

Now, I agree that there are certain aspects of Islam that are at odds with Western ideals. But what these individuals, of which Sam Harris is one of the most well known, are pushing is that there only one interpretation of the Islamic belief, whereas christians and Jews don't take their texts literally. Hence, stripping away the ability of a Muslim to define themselves. Once you do that, it's a lot easier to justify their persecution as a necessity.

The rule I always use if "a person is inconsistent with their application of their views and principles, that person cannot be trusted and what they say should be scrutinised further".

However, most people just think that if you are show a principled stance on one issue then that must be the case on all issues. That's how we sleep walk in to catastrophies.

Well, every time there is an ISIS inspired attack, usually there is a major crackdown and a decent handful of people rounded up who might have provided support or planning. I'm always dubious whether that is more for show rather than effect, but I haven't seen any such moves against the neo Nazi groups regarding this incident. For that matter I don't recall if anyone other than the perpetrator was brought to book for the Jo Cox murder either. This is why the term lone wolf gets used I suppose.

Another pointless and horrific attack by terrorists; My heart goes out to the innocent victims of this horrible crime.

So pleased that those attacked restrained the attacker until police arrived, instead of enacting vengeance. They are the true Britons.

Hatemongers from all camps must be sat on by the decent people of their camps now, else this could escalate fast.

White terrorism like the genocide of Native Americans and Australian Aborigines, the famines in India congratulated by Churchill (the hero of the British), the dozens of wars on all continents by the US and its lackeys, etc, etc

I hope the injured recover soon. This is like witnessing real life transition of a peaceful society into a violent one. I hope peace and sense prevails.

That's barely even a veiled threat. Those sort of comments are what put Anjem Choudhery behind bars. Except they are probably far more specific and threatening.

Anjem Chauhry was much worse and certainly had a bigger audience

Depends what you mean by audience

In terms of Twitter followers Tommy Robinson has c.300k vs Anjem Choudhary c.30k

That's a 10x difference

I meant more in terms of tv audience

I'd known anjem Chauhry as I had seen him on news channels of three countries (Sky in uk, fox in US, and geo in Pak) whereas I only got to know of this guy on PP recently as still don't know much about him

So internationally anjem Chauhry has more audience

I don't recall him making any threats to any communities in Britain whether veiled or not. His rants were mostly general and in the theme that Islam would one day rule over the whole world including Britain. Although feel free to correct me if you can think of something similarly threatening as Robinson's words, I can't recall anything like that.

Disgusting, today a 17 year old Muslim girl was killed in US too.

Though I wonder where are the ''false flag'' type posters today?

Hatemongers from all camps must be sat on by the decent people of their camps now, else this could escalate fast.

It;s always cowards like those on London Bridge or this guy. It's not going to escalate further as most people arent as brainwashed as them. However Muslims should be vigilant esp women and the elderly.

Anjum Chaudary was given air time to spout his idiotic views but being a soliciter he was well aware of the red line which could bring charges against him. Out of the millions who watched him only a few hundred agreed with him in the UK ,with around 100 hardcore followers.

Robinson who doesn't even use his real name has rallied tens of thousands to attend marches. He also gets airtime to spout his hatred but unlike Anjum has probably hundreds of thousands who agree with much of what he says.

All hate preachers should be banned from speaking in public and arrested for anything which may incite violence. I see Britain first are coming to Birmingham tommorow so in some ways the UK is no different to lawless Baghdad where hate preachers are given a public platform.

Well said that man. This has got to be stamped on now.

True. The MSM loves giving this fellow loads of airtime and coverage in order to misleadingly portray him as an "influential" Muslim. Perfect way to demonise the British Muslim community as a whole.

I think incitement to join ISIL was what put Anjem behind bars. Tommy has not been specific enough to face charges, I think.

What he says there, while utterly reprehensible, is probably an accurate prediction especially after Brexit when there are fewer jobs, food more expensive, worse NHS and no Poles and Latvians around to blame. Who will the white fascists turn on, do you think? Things are going to get bad.

What is Robinsons response to this?

The government should take some blame here, they have allowed hate preachers to spout their hatred openly in the name of freedom of speech but now this has resulted in deaths. Robinson and the Britain first idiots should be banned or jailed.

I've just viewed a video where Tommy Robinson is openly stating people in mosques are enemy combatants, therefore legitimate targets. What more would you like?

The State controlled propaganda channel the BBC not averse to stoking up tensions either

“Three Girls” wasn’t state propaganda @s28, it was an exploration of how some real children were groomed by a real paedophile gang and then let down by the agencies of the state which should have protected them. Did you watch it? It’s not stoking up tension to address a genuine social problem.

A man who drove a van into a crowd of Muslims near a north London mosque has been sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of 43 years behind bars.

Darren Osborne, 48, was found guilty of murdering Makram Ali, 51, after deliberately ploughing into a crowd of people in Finsbury Park in June.

Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb told Osborne, from Cardiff: "This was a terrorist attack. You intended to kill."

Mr Ali's family said they could not imagine the trauma he felt as he died.

Speaking outside court, his daughter, Ruzina Akhtar, said: "Our father, like the victims of most terrorism, was entirely innocent which makes his death in this violent way all the more hurtful."

"He was such a peaceful and simple man, he had no bad thoughts for anyone," she added.

Osborne mowed down worshippers in Finsbury Park shortly after 12.15am on 19 June last year, killing Mr Ali and injuring nine others.

The father-of-four, who was also found guilty of attempted murder, said "God bless you all, thank you", as he was led away from court.

The jury took an hour to return the verdict at Woolwich Crown Court on Thursday after a nine-day trial.

Sentencing him, Justice Cheema-Grubb told Osborne the jury in his trial had seen though his "pathetic last-ditch attempt to deceive them", by claiming an apparent accomplice called "Dave" had been the driver.

The judge said Osborne had planned "a suicide mission" and expected to be shot dead by the police. He was guilty of a "terrorist murder", she added.

Osborne had been "rapidly radicalised over the internet by those determined to spread hatred of Muslims", she said.

"Your use of Twitter exposed you to racists and anti-Islamic ideology," she added.

"In short, you allowed your mind to be poisoned by those who claimed to be leaders."

Before sentencing, the court heard a statement from Mr Ali's daughter, who said she had suffered "recurring nightmares" since the death of her father.

Ms Akhtar said: "The incident was near to our house and I walk past it most days. It keeps me awake at night thinking about the attack."

She said her mother was now scared to go outside by herself for fear of being attacked.

"My father was the most sincere and warmest person I know. He was full of jokes and laughter, and full of love for his family and grandchildren.

"His life was taken in a cruel way by a narrow-minded, heartless being," the statement added.

Other witnesses suffered feelings of anxiety, flashbacks, fear of going out and loss of confidence, prosecutors said.

Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb also heard a list of Osborne's previous convictions - including a string of violent offences - spanning more than 30 years.

Osborne had appeared before the courts on 33 occasions for 102 offences, she was told.

The judge said Osborne's previous convictions showed he was a "belligerent and violent character".

She said Mr Ali died immediately after being struck by the van. He was found with tyre marks on his torso, she added.

Reacting to the sentencing, Home Secretary Amber Rudd, said she hoped Osborne's conviction for a "horrific terrorist attack" would come as "some solace to his family and those injured".

Cdr Dean Haydon, head of the Metropolitan Police counter-terrorism team, said Osborne had carried out an "evil and cowardly attack".

"Some of those injured have still not fully recovered and could suffer from health issues for the rest of their lives," he said.

"I would like to pay tribute to Mr Ali's family and the local community in Finsbury Park, for their tremendous support and understanding with our investigation during what must have been an extremely difficult time for them."

During the trial, the court the victims of the attack had been outside the Muslim Welfare House, in Finsbury Park, when the area had been busy with worshippers attending Ramadan prayers.

Mr Ali had collapsed at the roadside in the minutes before the attack.

Police later found a letter in the van written by Osborne, referring to Muslim people as "rapists" and "feral".

He also wrote that Muslim men were "preying on our children".

Osborne, the trial heard, had became "obsessed" with Muslims in the weeks leading up to the attack, having watched the BBC drama Three Girls, about the Rochdale grooming scandal.

He then rented a van and had intended to target an Al Qud's Day march, on 18 June.

Unable to access the march, he drove around London until arriving in north London at about midnight.

Good on her, she is the first Asian woman in such a position and I guess she being from A Sikh background understands such racism.

If only the mainstream media would also label him a terrorist we could feel there is no bias from them.

43 years to life in a Cat-A.

Good.

Got to make an example of him.

The big selling papers all kept it small print, some of them even off the front page altogether, but nothing new there, there is always going to be bias, would be silly to expect otherwise.

But at least the law was applied evenly and the sentence matched the crime, so a good day for British justice.

The man who drove his van into worshippers outside a North London mosques has been attacked with a knife in prison, according to reports.

Darren Osborne, now 53, killed a man and injured 12 more in his 2017 attack at Finsbury Park mosque. The murderer is now behind bars for a minimum of 43 years, serving out his sentence in HMP Frankland in County Durham.

He's now reported to have been 'slashed' in prison, 'cut from forehead to chin', a source told The Sun. The paper added that the source believed the attack to have been done in 'revenge' by a Muslim man also in prison, though the motive is unconfirmed.

The source added that Osbourne is lucky not to have been hurt more than he was.

He's said to have been attacked before in a prison in York, and in another in Wakefield, when boiling water was reportedly thrown at him.

The police confirmed to The Sun that there had been a prisoner-on-prisoner attack, with 'minor injuries' suffered.

MyLondon has asked the prison service for further comment.

Osborne, 48 at the time of sentencing, was sentenced to life imprisonment after he deliberately mowed down worshippers outside two mosques in Finsbury Park on June 19, 2017, killing one and injuring 12 others.

Osborne, who denied charges of murder and attempted murder, was sentenced to a minimum 43-year term at Woolwich Crown Court.

Dont feel sorry for him at all. A slash to the face is not a minor injury but it seems the police are playing this down.

He will be attacked regularly for the rest of his life behind bars. The Muslims in jail wont forgive this terrorist.

Probably should go onto the at-risk wing. The Prison Service owes him a duty of care.

Yup.

I can't feel sorry for him. He played stupid games and now he deserves stupid prizes.
