I don't think any young ODI player has had as much on his shoulders, not even Kohli. Heck, Kohli started his career playing alongside Tendulkar, Dhoni and Sehwag.

Babar has to get runs, if he doesn't, the team does not score above par...making matters worse, the fans on here think Babar getting runs should also equal to Pakistan bowling well and winning every game.

I agree, and it only shows how bad Pakistan line up is.

Babar is a decent batsman who will score a lot of runs but not the match winner Kohli or other super batsmen are.

Technically, our 10 players are capable of making 180-220 ( depends on fakhar luck) . Whatever babar adds in the scorecard its bonus. Babar can add 70-80 runs to the scorecard.

At least the foreign commies throughout the tournie will be able to tell a lot of dumb Pak fans on this forum who the batting relies on and how important this guy is to our team.
People who actually have a feel for the game given their experience

Babar Azam doesn't need to be Virat Kohli. He just needs to be the best player he can be. He will need support , he can't carry the line up.

And to thing people are critical of him because he scored and century in a warm up match.

With “fans” like these who needs enemies!

He is a poor man's Kohli, but I agree with him, if Pakistan is going to make it to the semis depends mostly on him.

+1.

He's the backbone of our batting along with Haris.

I would like haris to play but I think we need the bowling of hafeez, and they will be reluctant to drop Malik/ not play Asif.
Either if the above means hafeez bats 4.
I'm ok with that for the lesser teams, but with teams with stronger bowling I think haris should play with hafeez at 6

I don't think Malik has any place in playing XI

The roles are similar. Babar has a lot on his shoulders.

In fact much more. Kohli these days has a bowling line up that is reliable babar doesnt have that advantage and hence his runs arent contributing that much to wins

The way I see it, 2 out of Asif Malik hafeez and haris are playing.

I think hafeez is locked in for his bowling.
We then got to look at who is best at playing the oppos bowling.
Teams with top quality spin from your overs 20-40 I think Malik is still in the best 2, otherwise not.
He should defo play against kulcha, and Mukesh/rashid
Today is important for malik

Babar is under too much pressure from people that want to turn him into something he isn't- a hitter. Be careful what you wish for.

Babar is useless unless he makes a ton in every match of the WC with a strike rate nothing less than 175. After all, 30 (15) is way better than 100 (90). #pakistani_logic

Dunno if he is the next VK or whoever....for this non pak neutral he looks a million dollars every time he bats...very stylish, awesome to watch...got a good future ahead of him

All eyes on Babar

I think he plays more like Michael Clarke compared to Virat kohli
Kohli thrives on adversity and sporting confrontation
Clarke and babar are more placid and gregarious at the crease

Its sad that now we have dependable guys like imam and babar , our bowling is totally crap.

Babar azam will never going to win you matches in high scroing games because of his srike rate he is a accumulator thats it

J.vince of england also very pleasing to eyes but england cricket board wants reaults thats why he is unable to find a spot

He reminds me of Mohammed yousuf and he is more of a match winner in 5 day tests I think rather than odis
Still has an anchor role to play like Kane Williamson does for NZ

"you dont know what you got until its gone"

Babar is a certain starter in any international team, Babar will be the first name on my teamsheet...

To say Clarke was not a pressure player is pretty wrong. He upped his game a few notches when playing South Africa in Tests which undoubtedly was the best bowling unit and the best test team till 2014. His 161* with broken ribs was an extraordinary inning on a green top.

He was pretty consistent throughout the 07 WC and was the unsung hero with Hayden and Ponting doing very well throughout. After taking over the captaincy reins, his SR increased in ODI's and he became a more aggressive batter. It's not that, he was simply a different kind of batter than both Kohli and Babar.

Does it really matter what micheal Clarke says babar and virat are both better than him and honestly he has the most annoying voice ever I hate him to hell in the commentary box annoying and cringe commentary

Amazing logic. The other batters play rubbish and to make up Babar must score at 175 SR or else he is useless.

Just some stats for Babar in ODIs:

Last 2 years: 49 @ 83 SR

Team batting first: 59 @ 91 SR
Team batting second: 43 @ 79 SR

Batting at #3: 58 @ 86 SR

Outside Asia: 47 @ 87 SR

It will be helpful to know what qualifies you to make such a statement? Michael Clarke has significant level of international cricketing experience under his belt and played an important part in one of the greatest sides to have played the game. What authority do you have to predict the future? Have you played or coached at the international level? Or are your opinions only that of a spectator?

Your statement is very bold and seems to be underpinned by a strong conviction. Please do share with us your credentials for making this statement.

Well i guess there is a bit of Langer in Imam too.

Langer, Hayden, Kohli - that’ll indeed be PAK’s best ever top 3......

I think, Babar is doing an excellent job, but he is let down by PAK’s bowling attack, which is probably at it's all time lowest in ODI cricket.

Babar is playing international cricket from 4years i think
Can you tell me how many matches he won for pakistan in chasing 300+
Total number is ZERO i think

M.clarke is himself a average odi cricketer and a great captain and a tactical genius but clarke is a average odi batsmen

No m.yousuf is a legend compare to babar azam he is a brilliant batsmen under pressure unlike b.azam i still fell m.yousuf is massively underrated in odis

Someone is saying in another thread that this is the best top3 pakistan ever had

The statement is true as in he is easily the best batsman in our side.

It certainly shouldn't be extrapolated to an overall comparison as Kohli is quite clearly a much more versatile batman. I dont even know how anyone can argue with that, unless you have an ill placed burden of patriotism clouding your judgement.

Brilliant batsman under pressure, but averages 30 in World Cups with 2 fifties which are against Netherlands and Scotland.

Highest scores in World Cup:
81* against Scotland
58 against Netherlands
43 against Namibia
37 against West Indies

Not sure about limited over format, but definitely one of the best batsman for Pakistan in tests.

Cricket is not only worldcup my friend if you are comparing m.yousuf vs azam ???my vote is going to m.yousuf

Sorry brother but i am a indian

So how many times Pakistan had chased 300+ totals where Baber is not part of the team?
You don't get this but our batting has been mediocre and inconsistent ever since I started watching it. Baber has only stabilised our batting. He bats at same position where we had legends like Hafeez, YK, Asad, Azhar. Check their stats batting at 3 and compare them with Baber and you will see a world of difference. Baber has been superb scoring consistently at a good sr against all teams not just minnows where some legends I mentiord used to enjoy.

I am saying b.azam will never win you matches in chasing 300+ because he is a accumulator and he hasn't had the fear factor like kohli for opposition team he is poor mans h.amla thats it

How many times babar helped pak team to chase 250+???
South Africa tour.
Pakistan lost 2nd odi Babar Out 12.
Pakistan lost 3rd odi Bcz of Rain Or Whatever you think.
Pakistan lost 5th odi Babar out 24 .
Pakistan lost 1st odi Against Newzeland UAE babar out 0.
These are all batting First Every Time Babar Failed Pakistan Batting line up Couldn't even Score 250+
Only After Imam Pakistan Started To Cross 300 Bcz Of their Consistency
Just One Match I Think he was a bit selfish for 20 balls Against England 4th odi .
Other Then that He Is Phenomenal.
Let me Give You A Good Example have you seen shai Hope.
Now That He has somewhat dependable batting line up Around him his strike Rate Has Increased from 70 to 90-95+
Also after inclusion of Haris and imam Babar Strike Rate is Consistently 100 this Year what else do you want from him.

He is poor mans amla and a chicken hearted player he will never win you against big teams chasing 300runs

Of course, Clarke is not saying that Babar is as good as Kohli. but that he is the best batsman in the Pakistan team. Which is really not saying anything more than night follows day.

Very harsh judgement on a young man, whose only played int cricket for 4 years and has 9 odi hundreds. Babar has not even reached his peak as a batsman, usually around 28 - 32 years old. Really the next 2 wc's are where i would expecr babar to win us the wc, as he will be 28 and 32 respectively and at his peak. At the moment he is still learning.

Who're you trynna explain this to??
The guy is a babar hater. No need.

I dont understand why people hate their own players. Sure, theres players i would prefer not to be in the team and players who are not playing for pak, to be in the pak team. But i never hate on any of the players and always wish them well when they play for pak.

I back Babar to have a great world cup. He has this safe game that allows him to get a start in almost every match. He may not be an explosive player. But his consistency is not a coincidence. He has a method that works for him.

Maybe it was just that Steve Smith is better than him that his record is so understated

Smith didn't come into his own till 2013-14 Ashes, and became a force by mid 2014. It was more of Ponting and Hussey(to an extent when he batted ahead of Clarke) from 2005-09 due to which he was understated. But basically from the day he became permanent test captain, he was their best batter. Smith was only seen as a better bat than him in his final Test series.

In terms of ODI's, the same is true with Punter being one of the best no.3 and Huss being one of the best finishers. His contributions became a bit underrated the same way as Damien Martyn's.

Michael Clarke is a true gentleman and is a voice of hope for Pakistan cricket. He's being kind here, so I wouldn't take his words literally. On Air, he also said Younis Khan is an ATG during the Australia tour in 2016/2017 but most pundits and prestigious lists don't rank him in such high regard. Note - I'm a big Younis Khan fan and even in my eyes, he misses out on ATG status in test match cricket alone.

He scored lots of centuries when Pakistan weren’t winning anything just like babar

He was definitely under used as a bowler too , same with Steve smith

He said that about YK cos Clarks himself is one of the few ATGs of spin bowling from SENA.
That's why he rated him high

9 odi hundreds how many against top teams??how many in chasing?
Against Australia 1hundred that inning is one of the worst inning i ever seen in cricket

This is straight up disrespecting Virat Kohli. Shameful stuff from Clarke.
