At least they will blunt the new ball and give a decent platform. You can still keep Fakhar in the team and play him in the middle order where hopefully he can give some impetus to the innings.
 
They can be our Geoff Boycott and Sunil Gavasker 90-0 after 30 overs the perfect platform to launch for Fakhar Asif and co.
 
Yeah take the one Batsman out who is capable of playing modern cricket and replace him with another tuk tuk
 
Any chance of Sharjeel coming back? Ahar Ali doesn't solve our opening problem.
 
Dropping Azhar was a huge mistake. With two new balls it's vital to have at least one batsmen, ideally two who have the technique to play swing and seam.

I'd bring him in and drop Fakhar down to number 4 after Babar.
 
Haq needs 40 overs to get going, needs to go into waste basket.

Swing? ODI pitches in English conditions are usually flat as pancakes, as well as the CT, remember the NZ series where each team was racking up nearly 400 runs.

We dont know what the weather will be like. If there is heavy cloud, the ball will swing regardless of the pitch being flat. The new balls will also seam without no could if the bowlers do their job properly. In the final Azhar stood solid while Fakhar was struggling, the ball was moving around. This gave time for Fakhar to play himself in and then accelerate.
 
I think in England should persist with fakhar as that is where he feels at home. I'd have azhar or someone else in the squad to replace him if he doesn't fire for a few games. In the UAE however I feel we should pick a team according to these conditions, and fakhars record and performances in this part of the world suggest there are better options than him for "home" games. I feel a bit sick saying home, it feels so wrong after the beatings we have received.

Look at even the legends of cricket, they have also witness variations in forms and ups and downs
 
Our aim is to blunt the new ball whilst other teams look to see off the new ball by scoring runs.

As if Azhar and Imam never got out in single digits.
 
There’s a strong case for Azhar playing in the odi side however to remove Fakhar from the team will be a travesty.
 
PPers used to make fun of Azhar Ali but I still feel he is the best candidate for captaincy (ODIs & Test) and a top order batsman.
 
Have him in the squad as a replacement in case someone doesn't fire. In CT he did well alongside Fakhar, should persist with those two at the top. Imam just doesn't seem to be suited to the modern game with his current style of play. Takes him a while to get going.
 
Only way Azhar can play to replace Babar if we face a tough opponent and swing condition.
 
How about no.

Fakhar has had a poor series but that doesn't warrant dropping him or demoting him down the order. Four would be too low a place for him to bat.

Imam has had a goodish series so cannot be dropped.

Azhar shouldn't be back in the ODI side.
 
Other teams: let's try to score 60/0 in the first 10 overs and set ourselves up for 350.

Pakistan: let's blunt the new ball and score 30/0 after ten overs and set ourselves up for 250 on a 320+.
 
No, no, just NO. I wonder how people even consider something like that in today's age of modern cricket. We should go with 2 attacking openers (Fakhar, Farhan, Mukthar/Nauman). Babar, Haris/Imam, Malik can constitute a solid and accumulating middle order. Sarfaraz, Hafeez/Asif, Faheem, Shadab should be considered for #7 to #9 spots.
 
We finally got out of the Misbah era and u want to go back? Pakistan didn't lose early wickets because of the new ball swinging. Our players got out simply due to pressure bowlers created with good line and length. They found Fakhars weak spot and continued bowling there. Our batsmen need to be able to get out of these tough spots by taking singles.
 
Problem with pakistan batsman is that they dont improve after coming in international arena
All the player like jamshed, fakhar, umar akmal, shoaib maqsood are good quite talented but after few matches their weakness got exposed.

Excellent Idea, Am sure one of these guys could bat 50 overs and break Sunils gavaskars famous record of 36 runs in an inns in 1st world cup. Am sure [MENTION=81]Monsee[/MENTION] can come on the pitch and throw his lunch at one of the players in disgust.

Azhar doesn’t play swing and seam. Azhar just about survives swing and seam. Going at 1 rpo in tests and cashing in later is the hallmark of his batting but in odi’s it’s just going to put pressure on the others in the line up. If he had Misbah’s power game then at least you could believe 1 in 3 games there’s going to be some big strikes further down the line once he’s managed to survive and block out 10/20 overs but In azhar’s case it is more likely going to end up with a pitiful score having blocked out 10 overs.

Let him just be our best test batsman and don’t tinker too much.

Excellent point. Why is this? Quite simply, once they make it to the team there is very little video analysis of their game and the opposition are not familiar with their weaknesses. After a season there is plenty to go by and the opposition are able to target the weak areas. Fakhar vulnerable to spin and the short ball coming into him is the case in point. Jamshed hoicking to mid on is another.

If you track back in time, some of our best players had similar dips.

Younis Khan in 2000 started with a bang, had a couple of ok/slow years but then really picked up in 2004/5 under Woolmer.

Yousuf similarly was fabulous in 99/2000 but developed a reputation for easy runs for most of early 2000’s. The steel in his batting was around 2004/5.

The reason is quite simply that good coaches identity areas that opposition will target and good players are able to absorb this knowledge and find a way to counter punch. Either our new players are not getting this knowledge about their weaknesses or they are unable to adapt their techniques quick enough but they certainly need time and confidence.

Misbah is another case in point. There appears no discernible change in his limited technique from New Zealand 2000 to the time he retired. All his improvements were of a mental nature.

Moral of the story ...a batsman needs strong guidance to learn and grow but technique will only take you so far. Your mental strength is gonna always compensate for a fast evolving game in testing conditions when the opposition smell blood.

Ha, those were the times. Too bad my thread is blocked from the general public, or else they will def enjoy reading first hand accounts of one of the greatest cricketing innings in history of the game!

I remember some selective details like their flags hung limp, they protested with Sunny to go on, throwing of lunch in protest, someone fainting, going to hospital, coming back and fainting again upon seeing Sunny still batting etc.

If we want to win the 2019 WC we need to get Sharjeel Khan back in the team asap.. I think we will definitely be strong favorites to win the 2019 WC, we just lack a strong opener who can partner Fakhar otherwise our team is complete..

azhar and imam will see off the new ball. Pak will be 40/0 after 15 overs, then can launch an assault from there. great idea
 
Any team would take 30/0 from Pakistan lol. Pakistan could afford batting side with limited skills when their bowling was top class. Rightnow they have one of the poorest bowling attack among Asian teams. Until their bowling improves they cannot defend mid level scores.
