What's new

Are Salman Ali Agha and Mohammad Rizwan the new Mr. Dependables in Pakistan’s middle order?

Moin khans stats are there for everyone to see....

No one walks into an atg team with such poor batting stats...
But, but, but…..

He has an ICC trophy. So does Sarfraz

According to your logic, this is the clincher!

but come on man - ICC trophy was the be all wasn’t it?

Rizwan has failed to win an ICC trophy - he’s useless. I’m trying to back your logic here. Help a brother out

You are absolutely right in every point. I think they did try other keepers around that Kamran era though.
Adnan akmal, humayun farhat and zulqarnain haider. All had their problems. I think for a while I even remember umar akmal Imran farhat and younis khan keeping.

The point being a specialist keeper who is also sane and not a stop gap or nepotistic choice and can bat is actually a rarity in Pak cricket. The younger fans don’t know how lucky they are to have Rizwan.
Keepers were tried very briefly before reverting back to Kamran. I remember Sarfraz getting a chance and people concluded he couldn’t bat and quickly went back to Kamran.

Adnan and Haider were mostly for tests and given their debuts in 2010, i.e when kamran stopped being a regular in all formats. Umar too tried as a keeper after kamran was dropped as a regular.

Haris on the other hand has already played just over 40 games.

When that Sydney test happened PCB finally gave up on Kamran akmal.

There was always that narrative that kamran was much better than his stats and we should tolerate his poor keeping as a result. That narrative was blown out the water when Sarfraz became the regular keeper and showed you can keep decent and perform better with the bat.

Kamran really we tolerated a lot. I remember he had the worst batting stats amongst all the major nations at the time as well as being the worst keeper. And yet it was tolerated. Looking back it was crazy. Even logically a guy who can keep well and hardly bats has more utility than a 20 average batsman with poor keeping.

What Kamran then did in domestic after 2011 dramatically improving in domestic and dominating PSL kind of showed he didn’t reach any of his potential when he was an international cricketer.

It’s sad really. If only we’d dropped him for longer earlier on in his career, he might have got his act together earlier and reached his potential. Sydney as just so bad along with 2011 World Cup that he wasn’t going to have much way back.
