"Salman Ali Agha is the weakest link in the team": Shoaib Akhtar

Shoaib Akhtar, who is a part of cricket analysis panel for the Asia Cup 2025 for PTV Sports, questions Salman Ali Agha as the captain. He said:

“I am very surprised by the coach (Mike Hesson). As far as the captain, he doesn’t know anything anyways (usko kuch patha nahi hai), what is he captaining, what is he playing in the middle,”

“He is the weakest link of the team. Does he deserve to play in the spot he is playing? No one will discuss this. He is the weakest link in the middle. What does he do? Tell me? He comes at No.6 and for India, you have Hardik Pandya or Tilak coming there. Karo comparison.

“Good boy is teek hai, fine with me, so captain is fine with me – but what does he produce as a talent?”
 
He miscalculated & shouldn’t have come in to Bat when he did & had a terrible day on the field, although with limited resources; a bit harsh from Akhtar because our previous leaders were massively worse.

Which will be another disaster. The story of Pakistan cricket has been from bad to worse. Both shaheen and Shadab are brainless who can’t even be in the team on merit.

There’s only one captaincy material and that’s Fakhar. Make him captain till next year’s World Cup. Remove the bits and pieces players. Go for players with assured role and expectation.

Shaheen has turned into a very useful allrounder
 
Absolutely he's not a t20 player at all it was a blunder by the management to make him a captain as well
 
Akhtar talks nonsense. The whole cricket show he features on is ridiculous as Akhtar takes too much of the screen time talking nonsense.

Misbah, Malik and Bazid talk very logically.

Im impressed by Malik infact as he was able to tell by aghas leg movement that Agha is not being to read the spinners hands.

Bazid is very good aswell because Bazod doesnt make outladish statements agaianst the coach or captain and just talks about the tactics applied
 
Heard some of his clips yesterday. As usual, it was a word salad.

Coach doesn’t know anything. Agha doesn’t know anything. Yet did not offer a single solution.

In fact, he was pushing for inclusion of Hassan Ali 😂

One of the worst analysts for sure
 
I saw the video now, and Akhtar is right, its a shame cuz it seemed like Salman had some promise initially but it appears he is just another weak and timid player, and making wrong decisions as well.

Absolute correct but it wasnt his choice to becomr kaptaaan i been saying all along he doesnt deserve a place on any format although has done half decent in red ball but will not last for sure
 
I was backing Agha as a captain but now I'm convinced he is misfit in T20. I don't usually agree with Shoaib Akhter because he always talks non sense but this time i second his statement.
 
He is not a T20 player and when the player is not confident with his abilities, he cannot lead a team. Akhtar is correct.
 
Who is not a weak link in the Pakistan team? It seems like Pakistan ex-players always keep saying this player would have made a difference, that player would have made the difference but when those players make it to the XI and fail, they will change their tune. The reason why Pakistan team has been on a downward slope is because the fans and the experts think that one player here or there will magically change the outcome. The problem is that it is not going to happen that way. You need planning for years developing a team and players. Pakistan over the years have never invested in player development. There is only lots of talks about how the country is overflowing with talent and the only reason the team is losing is because wrong players are selected. But again the players the fans and experts want get picked the team still loses. Now the ones you guys wanted dropped come back again and fail again and then the selectors go back to the players they replaced. It is a vicious cycle which never ends.

I will tell you that Pakistan winning Asia Cup beating India or any other team will not change anything, the same way 2017 Champions Trophy did not and the "152/0" which the fans so fondly keep pointing out did not. Unless the system invests in proper player development and improvement, Pakistan is going to keep repeating the same mistakes no matter how many random wins they notch up, they would never have any consistency.

Fakhar is struggling from his groin injury for quite some time. .unfortunately its seems he won.t last long.
 
Akhtar is talking nonsense as usual, all his statements are full of drama with sarcastic comments on PCB & players. Yes Salman has not scored consistently but at same time all main batsman & bowlers have also failed consistently like Saim, Fakhar, Hassan Nawaz, Haris, Shaheen, Rauf, Abrar

Akhtar is singling out Salman with such statement just to get some attention
 
Reality hitting hard for many Sallu bhai fans.... Salman IS THE WEAKEST LINK. Who can deny it??
 
Nothing personal against him he's not a t20 player he is no better than babar or rizwan

It's common knowledge Shadab was supposed to be captain, but he got injured and couldn't play in the past few months which has delayed the change.

I doubt Naqvi goes back to Shaheen considering the history, so the next option in PCB's books will always be Shadab. I'm not sure Shadab himself justifies his place in the team.
 
amazing how short people’s memories are. Just a month ago he hit 50’s. Helped win Odi series in South Africa. Was instrumental against England in test series last year with good gritty runs.

Now he’s been saddled with a young non performing team. Yes the expectation is that as a senior player he will lead from the front and hit important runs. But this is a false expectation of a new captain with a young team. He needs time to grow into the role. In a few months yes you can say he’s the weak link but right now the team needs to stick together and find a way to win. This is by far the toughest competition of most of their careers and they don’t have any experience to fall back on.

I really expected more from SSA and Saim.(from their main roles ) They’ve been playing for a long time now. Need to support the captain.
 
I don't take Shoaib seriously at all. It seems like these retired guys are always trying to put others down just to make themselves look better.

Remember when he said Sarfaraz wasn’t capable? or Babar, Shaheen and Rizwan weren’t good enough? Now it’s Salman's turn to get bashed.

Honestly I’m getting tired of hearing there’s no superstar anymore or there is no talent and these guys were the best in their time... He might be the fastest bowler of all time but he also has one of the biggest superiority complexes I've ever seen...

If the pitch behaves like last match, hasan ali isnt a bad shout against india.
 
Akhtar called it earlier, Respect and some soul searching for Agha Brigade. Throw Agha out and all of sudden team looks like real contenders

As of now, as i have said before, Babar and captain are dragging the T20 progress. However, Babar far more than Salman.

The difference is:

Salman, if failed, will most likely be playing his first and the last T20 WC in 2026. He is also a team man not insisting on playing at a certain position like some other x-captains. He is willing to change his batting order for the team.

Babar on the other hand knowing his SR, NEVER even thought about OPTIONS. Like a "egotistical dheet" stuck in his little echo chamber, never bothered to provide a long term chance to ANY opening pair to up the SR. He dug a hole for himself. When the pressure built up to have an opening pair with a higher SR, he lost his own game trying to up the SR (which he is not capable of) along with his confidence.
 
He may be right here, but most of the times his views are totally useless. Unfortunately my two favorite players of all time, Akhtar and Sehwag, are the worst analysts out there.
 
I for one fully back Agha in the team. He's doing a splendid job as captain and I'm really impressed with the way he handles part time bowlers. He'll come good with the strike rate as he's shown capability to improve his performance since captain.

Even before he was captain I had included him in my team. I see him as a flexible option in the batting line up and he can use himself as a floater rather than having any set position. He takes on responsibility and that's a characteristic which we lack in the PCT. We've played specialist captains in the past like Sarfraz and Misbah with good results.

He is a shrewd captain, i really hope he can up that SR, seems a genuinely nice guy, one that people cqn root for- hope Salman can come good in T20 as a SR of 111 is not good enough, even moreso with an average of just 23!

Anyway, Salman was always the weak link in t20 squad... Eating 1 spot so we are practically playing with 10 guys..
 
Salman agha should be a odi captain he has no business in t20 people who support him as a t20 player and captain have most likely never played a game of cricket i myself played cricket for 25 years

Please share the strike rate of the prodigal son/saviour/hero Babar Azam upon his return after being booted out for a year!

Please prove to us that booting him out was an incorrect decision! Why are you scared?
 
Salman should stay as T20 captain until T20 World Cup 2026, has won almost every match except the 3 against India.

Fakhar's strike rate is 127 at 28 avg
Saim 129 at20 avg
salman 115 at 26
Babar 114 at 34

Now judge who is the weakest link.... Stop supporting mediocrity when the replacements are not an upgrade... if 129 is an upgrade then I feel you are drunk now

What’s Farhan’s sr and average since he was recalled to the side post PSL 10? How did he end up rank 4th in the world?

Besides, do you genuinely believe Saim is a 129 strike rate batter like Babar and Rizwan (who are still below) :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Alas Sydney Sixers should have paid heed to this crack and should have opted for Salman Usman etc etc
