QUETTA: At least four police personnel were martyred and 12 others, including some policemen, wounded in a blast near a mosque in the Satellite Town area of the provincial capital on Monday night.

The blast took place shortly after a police van arrived at the site to provide security to the people offering taraveeh prayers at the mosque, officials said.

This was the second major terrorist attack in Balochistan within the last three days, as previously a luxury hotel in Gwadar came under attack.

“The police vehicle carrying personnel for mosque security was targeted in the blast in which our four personnel of Rapid Response Group (RRG) lost their lives, while the condition of another was stated to be serious,” said Quetta DIG Razzaq Cheema while speaking to Dawn.

The officer said an improvised explosive device planted in a motorcycle went off close to the police van. Sources said unidentified people parked the explosive-laden motorbike near the mosque in Satellite Town area and detonated it by remote control when the police van arrived there.

As a result, one police constable died on the spot while 15 others, including seven police personnel, were wounded.

Police, Frontier Corps personnel and rescue workers rushed to the site and shifted the body and the wounded victims to the Civil Hospital Quetta.

“Three police officials among the injured died soon after being brought here at the hospital,” officials at the healthcare facility said. They added other wounded were admitted to the hospital. “The condition of another policeman is serious, as he sustained multiple wounds,” said a senior official.

Many vehicles parked in the area were damaged and windowpanes of nearby buildings were shattered due to the impact of the powerful blast though the mosque remained safe in the attack.

Four RRG men who lost their lives in the blast were identified as Mohammad Ishaq, Ghulam Nabi, Mushtaq Shah and Zulfiqar Ali.

Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the elements involved in the blast.

The Balochistan chief minister strongly condemned the blasts and said they could not demoralise the government and security forces. He vowed that the government and security forces would continue action against terrorists and their facilitators.

He directed law enforcement agencies to take all-out measures against terrorists and bring them to justice. He expressed sympathies with families of the martyred police personnel and said their sacrifices would always be remembered.

The banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the motorcycle bomb blast targeting the police vehicle.

Painful and heartbreaking time continues for people of Balochistan. It has been an awful week.

Questions must be asked as to how this is able to happen. Security needs to be seriously improved and TTP must be dealt with.

What about BLA? Should they also be dealt with strict force by the army? They are the same as the taliban.

Govt and army needs to do a massive clean up operation in Blauchistan. All these external funded forces need to go.

Couldn't agree more.

The lack of response on this thread is indicative of the general lack of interest people have in the issues plaguing Balochistan.

If this had been a thread on Palestine or Kashmir or Indian Muslims I am sure it would have spanned many pages.

I responded but you failed to reply to me. Your own interest in Balochistan seems limited.

It's pretty late here in America, most posters on PP live in different time zones. There isn't some conspiracy to ignore "Baluchistan" (this wasn't even Baloch area) but the fact remains that 5 Pakistani police officers were killed by terrorists supported by Afghanistan and you sympathize with them so maybe you have some explaining to do.

These are the same police officers that are targetted by the likes of BLA. And the liberals generally support BLA. Stop playing on both sides of the wicket. The police is a representative of the Pakistan state so ofcourse we care.

We also have many more posters from both sides of Kashmir than from Balochistan on this forum and that's mainly cause of the population difference of both of those regions and size of the diasporas, that's why Kashmiri threads receive more attention. Most of the Kashmiri threads are posted by Kashmiri members on here, I can't think of any ethnic Baloch poster.

I agree and it’s really sad

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.

A surge in terrorist activities in Balochistan recently, it seems our security forces are serious this time around to eradicate this menace of terrorism, I hope they succeed and people of Balochistan can live safely and prosper.

Rip... How come these terrorists became so powerful suddenly?

Rip... How come these terrorists became so powerful suddenly?

We are failing to protect our own people in Pakistan. People like Ramzan Mengal have been released even though they are known to be terrorists inciting religious hatred. Not saying this attack was secterarian in nature as there are various group involved in terror in Balochistan. Unfortunately the deep state is not willing to open up to its mistakes in Balochistan over a long period and try to rectify them.

One policeman was martyred and five others sustained injuries in an explosion in Quetta's Double Road area on Tuesday evening, police said.

The improvised explosive device (IED) blast also left five civilians injured, Quetta Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abdul Razzaq Cheema told DawnNewsTV.

The target of the blast was a police mobile, police sources said.

According to police, unidentified miscreants had planted an IED in a motorcycle parked on the roadside. The bomb went off when the police mobile passed the motorcycle on Double Road.

TV footage showed a blaze erupted at the site of the explosion after the loud blast, which also caused damage to two vehicles and nearby shops.

The deceased was identified as a member of the police Rapid Response Force.

The injured policemen were rushed to Civil Hospital Quetta, where an emergency was imposed.

Police and personnel of Frontier Corps reached the site as an investigation into the incident went underway.

The incident comes weeks after four policemen were injured in a bomb blast that occurred close to their vehicle in the Southern Bypass area near Quetta-Sibi National Highway.

It comes a day after opposition lawm*akers in the Balochistan Assembly demanded setting up of a fact-finding committee to probe increasing terrorist attacks in the province.

QUETTA: Security forces foiled a terror attack bid on Friday, killing one would-be suicide bomber during an exchange of fire, while another bomber blew himself up during a search operation in the Loralai area.

Two soldiers of the Frontier Corps — Abdul Latif and Mohammad Sharif — were also injured in the incident and later shifted to the Combined Military Hospital, Loralai.

Official sources said that the FC personnel posted at a check-post in the Killi Kawar area on the outskirts of Loralai town near the University of Loralai signalled two men riding a motorcycle to stop. But instead of stopping, they opened fire on the security forces.

According to the sources, the suspects tried to escape and took shelter near a seasonal river. The security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

During the ensuing encounter, one would-be suicide bomber was killed while another detonated the explosives attached to his jacket.

An official of the Counter Terrorism Department, which had joined the paramilitary soldiers in the operation, said that both militants were wearing suicide jackets and apparently planning to attack some important place in Loralai.

However, he said, the security forces had foiled the terror attempt by taking prompt action against the suicide bombers.

Officials said that arms and ammunition, including grenades, AK-47 assault rifles and rounds, were seized.

The Bomb Disposal Squad collected evidence from the site.

Loralai has witnessed half a dozen terror attacks this year that have clai*med the lives of over a dozen people, inclu*ding police personnel. The Frontier Corps training centre, the DIG office and Police Lines were among the places targeted by in Loralai.

Taliban /TTP seem to be making a comeback in recent weeks.

Need to be on alert

I think solution is development of Balochistan. Tourism in regions should be promoted.

I dream of visit to quetta by rail in winters. Balochistan has huge land area, why has there been no initiative to set up Industries there?

We get to hear alot of chanting about Kashmir, But how exactly have we made use of resources and people of balochistan?

The khans of balochistan was kind of coerced into joining Pakistan
It looks like that old sentiment has been jumped on by opportunistic terrorists on their borders
Never quite knew how the Baluchi secular rebels were interlinked with kharijites terrorists

Still, I feel we should not let down our Baloch Brothers and think for their long-term betterment.

A prosperous balochistan will lead to prosperous pakistan.

What is the local population like? If they are very culturally conservative it might be difficult to promote tourism in that sort of area. Otherwise I am sure there could have been similar initiatives in FATA regions as well, but when you have a local population which is not that receptive to disruption then encouraging tourism might prove difficult.

The solution is then to move them away or displace them.

Quetta is sitting on trillions of minerals so it makes sense economically too
But I can’t see Pakistan implementing an article 370 in balochistan to keep it under control
They seem to have a certain degreee of autonomy which suits everyone at the minute
