I watched the series, really great to see Freddy invest so much time into these kids. Cricket is a great sport to help the youth with confidence and a fun sport to start playing as you dont need to be very fit.

Congratulations to Adnan, looks a good talent. I have to say he doesnt look 16 to me :afridi

I think Adnan is in his 20s to be honest lol. Glad he has got asylum and can build a life & career in the UK. Maybe one day he will play for England!

He is lucky to have found himself such a wonderful family. Its a shame we have such governments in our country, fascists, extremists and those who cheerlead every white mans war when we have so many amazing people who help so many inc asylum seekers. This family has shown great values of UK which still exist.

Not sure he will play for England but will defo smash the under 16s at Lancs :afridi lol.

He isnt 16, more in the 19-20 range. I had one Afg kid in my class who claimed he was 14, he was also around 20. Real safeguarding issues

I caught episode 2 last night and it shows the value of sport in this dystopian world we are now in. The key to helping young boys and girls to become valuable members of society is socialisation through community

I assume its near impossible to prove someone is lying about their age coming as refugees. I also assume the younger their age, the more likelihood of them being given permanent residence.

Im not sure, Adnan has one of those faces, he could be 20 or 40. The fact he could bowl so well, means he has played cricket a lot. I think he told the viewers he played with a stick, picked up bowling on his own, never taught, never played properly isnt true either.

Lets hope now he has his asylum he is a genuine decent guy who wont cause any embarrassment to his foster family who have been so kind to him.

An Afghan refugee who showed a natural talent for cricket on Andrew Flintoff's recent documentary has been granted asylum in the UK.

Adnan had faced an anxious wait to find out his fate after arriving in Preston, Lancashire, from Afghanistan in 2021.

He was one of several boys taken under the former England star's wing in the BBC series, which he filmed just months after he arrived in the country.

The 16-year-old said he was "flying over the sky" with happiness.

"I am so happy," he told BBC Radio Lancashire.

Ashes legend Flintoff tweeted: "Adnan's got asylum. Massive thank you to you all, can't stop smiling."

The boy, who is living with foster parents Elaine and Barry, could not speak a word of English when he arrived.

He had travelled from Afghanistan by foot, boat, truck and car.

"In Calais, he hid in an empty lorry and found his way to Preston," Elaine said.

"When he arrived here, he cut himself out of the lorry and handed himself in to the police."

At first, Adnan spent the majority of his time in his room before surprising his foster parents when he started bowling golf balls into a golf driving net in their garden.

Andrew Flintoff: Former England captain pictured for first time since Top Gear accident

Former England captain Andrew Flintoff has been pictured for the first time since he was injured in an accident while filming Top Gear last year.

Flintoff, 45, was injured in December at the motoring TV show's test track at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey.

He was seen with the England team during their one-day international with New Zealand at Cardiff on Friday.

Filming of the 34th series of the BBC show was suspended pending a health and safety review into the incident.

Flintoff was not working with England in a formal capacity but was invited to be around the team.

The former all-rounder, who had visible scars on his face and tape on his nose, wore a bucket hat and dark glasses as he led fielding drills with the England players at Cardiff's Sophia Gardens.

He was then seen sat on the England balcony during the New Zealand innings, with the visitors going on to complete a dominant eight-wicket victory.

England captain Jos Buttler said it was "great" to have Flintoff around the squad.

"He's obviously an England legend and it's just nice to have him around the group," Buttler said.

"He's not been brought in with any specific role, just to be around and observe.

"A few of the lads can pick his brains a little bit and he's settled in really well. It's great to have him with us. Just for this series."

Following the accident on 13 December, Flintoff received medical care at the scene before being taken to hospital for further treatment.

In March, the BBC apologised to Flintoff for his injuries and said it would continue to support him during his recovery.
