France reportedly aims to export gas from the facility in Shabwah in order to reduce Europe's reliance on Russian fuel

National Salvation Government (NSG) in Yemen has expressed concern over what it called “suspicious” activity by US and French troops stationed south of the war-torn country.

The discussion took place during a parliamentary session held by NSG officials on 17 August.

The suspicious activity cited by the NSG refers to a claim made by Yemen’s former Foreign Minister, Abu Bakr al-Qirbi, who said that French Foreign Legion, a French military force comprising of foreign nationals, has arrived in Yemen’s Shabwah province to secure control of the Balhaf gas facility.

The former minister said that there are French “preparations being made to export gas from the Balhaf facility … in light of increased international gas prices,” and in an attempt to reduce Europe’s reliance on Russian fuel amid the global energy crisis exacerbated by the conflict in Ukraine.

Al-Qirbi also suggested that the French move “could be the reason for events in Shabwah,” referring to recent clashes between UAE-backed mercenary groups and Islah Party forces affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood and the Saudi-backed President Leadership Council (PLC).

French have a long history of looting resources around the world esp in Africa.

So now we have more theft of gas because Europeans are becoming hungry.

The key Balhaf gas facility has been turned into a base by UAE troops, who have not allowed exports of the fossil fuel, Arabi 21 said.

Mohammed Saleh bin Adyo, the former governor of Shabwa governor, urged the soldiers leave the site on more than one occasion while he was in office.

The UAE, while officially part of the Saudi-led coalition, has pursued its own agenda in Yemen.

UAE SAUDI Qatar are following their own agenda, poor arab countries will get fooled by them.

French are also responsible as below:

Tragic. A people who have seen a horrific war with so many children dying or at risk of dying from hunger is now seeing dictators and Europeans stealing their natural resources.

As expected no such fuss here like Ukraine.

East India Company put to shame.

Can Yemen harness their own natural resources? When people are illiterate to put it mildly, foreigners will come and do it for them. Of course, they are not going to do it for free.

At least a few Yemenis will get rich from it instead of none.

Its very difficult when your land has been bombed to obliteration.

Yemens needs peace like all nations in order to grow economically.

The French arent planning to help Yemenis, they are planning to take the Gas like UAE and Saudi.

Shame on France.

This is stealing. Period.

British Empire has looted Asia and Africa for a long time. America did the same thing.

100% Agree they have equal blame.

Its a shame many dont see the hypocrisy in the west of supporting such regimes but instead attack the likes of China who are helping to develop Africa and some parts of the Middle East.

Reminds me of this video, MUST WATCH for All!

Did they have the knowhow as to how to get the Natural Gas before bombing?

Of course. One of the main reasons for the Yemen war was to extract its immense natural resources. Yemen has gold, copper, lead, nickel, coal, rock salt, gas and petroleum.

That's not the point.

These resources belong to Yemen and this is for them to decide what they want to do with it. Not for France or another imperialist nation.

Like UAE and Saudi? Who are literally bombing them?

Yeminis will not see any proceeds. It will be looted with scraps thrown for the local warlords controlling and pacifying the locals. Similar to what has been happening in Lybia post Gaddafi. No one knows where the oil/gas out of Lybia goes?

If Yemen is incapable of mining their own resources, some other nation will do it for them and take their fair share or more for their services.

Don't blame France. If not France, it will China or some other nation that will exploit dumb nations like Yemen.

Weak and dumb nations with poverty will always be exploited by stronger and smarter nations and cultures.

You are basically supporting invasion.

Don't complain then if China takes land from India.

Yemen does not have capability to extract the resources. France will do it for them and get the better deal for themselves. Same what china would do also.

Yemenis are great people, they are not dumb or weak.

India was ruled over 1000 years by outsiders. What happened there?

He is acting like there are no dumb people in India. Haha!

Also, I noticed one thing about Indians. Many of them tend to overlook western/British atrocities. They show outrage about Mughals but little to no outrage about British Empire.

Indians absolutely hate the British empire, we still make movies on their unjust rule: RRR very recently blockbuster mind you.

Yet your seem to have a harder time criticizing Turkey, Arabs.

Not "secure" but to steal all business facilities.

You do know Ethnically you are Indian right?

No SalimBhai Im not like you.

But what has this got do with the price of fish or the topic?

TotalEnergies has been sending Jet fuel to Russia , used in attack in Ukraine.

The French are hypocrites, like most of the west their wealth is due to a history of theft and bloodshed.

Ahhhhhh. It was only a matter of time another NATO member setup up shop in a weak nation, like Yemen, to steal resources.

These Warmongering Europeans will never learn.

Terrorists, the lot of them.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) -The United Nations Yemen mediator urged warring parties on Wednesday to "seize the opportunity" to take decisive steps toward peace and said momentum to end the conflict had been renewed by a deal between Saudi Arabia and Iran to resume ties.

"Intense diplomatic efforts are ongoing at different levels to bring the conflict in Yemen to an end," U.N. special envoy Hans Grundberg told the Security Council. "We are currently witnessing renewed regional diplomatic momentum, as well as a step change in the scope and depth of the discussions."

The conflict in Yemen has widely been seen as a proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in Yemen in 2015 after the Iran-aligned Houthis ousted the government from the capital Sanaa in 2014.

Iran and Saudi Arabia announced on Friday that they had agreed to restore diplomatic ties after four days of previously undisclosed talks in Beijing between the Middle East rivals.

"The parties must seize the opportunity presented by this regional and international momentum to take decisive steps towards a more peaceful future," Grundberg, who visited Tehran earlier this week, told the 15-member Security Council.

A U.N.-brokered truce agreed in Yemen last April has largely held despite expiring in October without agreement between the parties to extend it.

"The overall military situation in Yemen continues to be relatively stable ... But this is fragile," Grundberg said.

"The truce can only be a steppingstone. We urgently need to build on what was achieved by the truce and work toward a nationwide ceasefire and an inclusive political settlement to end the conflict in Yemen," he said.
