All the batsmen are to blame. A leggie is a leggie, this tail was never going to hold up.
He got drift and spin today but all dismissals were self-inflicted. He was made to look like Yasir Shah when he struggles in County cricket as well.
What an absolute disgrace.
An English leggie has a 5-fer after 66 years.![]()
But we will get reward for it.![]()
Both Moeen and Rashid are absolutely rubbish.
How many overa were left?

Wow.That`s is a great effort.Hats off!6.3 overs. The pressure told in the end, it was a pointless shot, but he showed tremendous technique against the spin up to that point.
England have unearthed a 5th day specialist.
He can be their Steve Smith lol leggie turned batsman
When will Mason Crane replace him ?

His name was mentioned by Bayliss in an interview the other day and he's been selected in one of the squads for the England South V North ome day series in the UAE. Given he didn't really do anything in the one day cup this year (he tends to be the 2nd spinner after Dawson in limited overs) it suggests they're looking at starting to fast track him a bit.
Might not be ever - first, his batting average is in single digit, so he might not get even a County side before he improves that to at least 20 level. Also, cricket is a relative game - in this clip, he is probably bowling to a County side, I'll wait till he bowls to batsmen in Bombay or Delhi club cricket. I can safely say that Dadar Union or Shivaji Park won't lose 10 wickets in 2 sessions on that wicket to Jaddu; hence wait a bit. The last one I had similar feeling (in terms of spin bowling capacity) was Jafar Ansari - he won't make the better club teams in Mumbai League as SLAO spinner. ...............
He has got alot of potential. Needs to be groomed and developed in the best of manner.
I do not remember the name of an Under 19 Offspinner. It was probably Taylor or someone else. Saw his videos and he looks quite good. I guess he is 5'10 plus and has a good action. Could be longterm Swann replacement.
I am sure given the excellent system ECB has both of them will be in radar. (Benefit of quality structure & HR)
I don't rate Zafar much. Crane has decent control and gets good amount og turn on all surfaces. I like the initial look. He has dismissed Jayawardene & Sangakara so a good start. Leggies need time.
What he needs is to get batsmen out, when they are trying to survive & that can only happen in FC matches where he'll bowl with catching field & a target at hand - in current context, Counties won't pick a spinner to bowl 15-18 overs/match & doesn't average 35 with bat .....

Except he got picked in 13 of Hampshire's 16 championship games this season and that too at an age when most players would be trying to just about solidify a place in the 2nd XI.
Besides, why on gods green earth would england drop a spinner whom they've been grooming for years and has only played like two test series which were actually pretty decent given the level of international experience. It's not easy to find quality spinners in England it takes years to find a talent that has potential to be consistent to some level, there are quiet a few cranes around the circuit but they're too green and Rashid will be remain on the throne given the investment which has been made and potential he has displayed, I expect him to get better with more exposure and experience but he needs to be handled correctly as well
There is a 10 years age gap between the two, hence the transition could be perfect - this guy should be ready by the time Adil reaches his retirement age. The main issue is grooming a spinner, as a spinner - there will be difficult time for a leggi, in matches, in months even an entire season. It's extremely important that he doesn't misses out in those difficult times; his degree of difficulty is much higher for his batting skills. Imagine the situation of Monty - for a spinner of his class is struggling to continue career in FC cricket. In these cases, what almost every English potential spinner has done is, they have turned into economical darter, who bowls an over in 2.5 minutes max. & improve their batting skills, so that they are in touching distance always.
The biggest challenge for Crane is to resist the temptation of becoming an "all-rounder" & remain as specialist leggi. Every English posters here argues with me that Moeen & Adil are the best 2 spinners in ENG & to their credit, they happen to be good with bat - but none thinks why it has come to this level - Tufnell would have gone to the same route of Panesar for his batting & Swan might have lost to Moeen had he been around now.
May be this is exception, but I am talking in general. It might happen, Hampshire didn't have another "Spin all-rounder" to play in team. There is heavy penalty for slow over-rate in County, therefore often spinners are picked to manage over rates. The bottom line is that, the Culture in County is not to pick spinners on bowling merit & unless this changes, his 13 match season easily can come down to 3 matches when there'll be an overseas pick or an spin "all-rounder" is found.
He won't be threatening as Yasir as she doesn't flight the ball much or impart ton of topspin. Too much side spin and not enough top spin in his stock delivery. I also feel that he is kind of not bright enough. I wonder if there are enough wrist spin coaches working with him.
That's a lot of judgement to make on an 18 year old after watching 7 balls of a one day match.
