Gilgit Baltistan Election 2020

how was the voting trend today ?

The results are still being compiled. PTI won 9 seats. Second highest were independents with 6, mind you 4 off these were PTI workers who didn't get tickets and ran independently.

Good to see PML-N and PPP getting humiliated. I feel four seats are already too many for the PPP. They deserve zero votes.

Hopefully it will be a reality check for Maryam Nawaz, who overrates her popularity.

This was a crisp slap on her face. It is lovely that PML-N went from 2/3 majority to just 2 seats.

It was PTI vs PTI. A lot of the seats that PTI won the runner up was an independent who didn't get PTI ticket. Off the 7 victorious independents, 4 belong to PTI. Heck one of them is a district head of PTI. Stupid ticket selection cost PTI 2/3 majority.

It’s a worrying sign. Yet again PTI has messed up the ticket allotment system, the same happened in GE 2018. How on earth can u not allot a ticket to a pmln turncoat and not to your district president when he must have done a lot of work at ground level leading up to the elections. I want to know who was distributing the party tickets in the election. Khan really needs to look into this .. we wd hv gotten at least a simple majority easily and even 2/3rd majority if not for this mishap..

The thing is that the Kaptaan delegates but these idiots at the lower levels use this to make money and settle personal scores.

Agreed !!! Khan needs to be very careful in next general elections otherwise we might see a repeat of 2018. We just can’t afford these pmln and ppp crooks to come back and ruin all the gains PTI govt has made since taking the charge..

I Think Bilawal has refused to accept the results. He wants to start protests against rigging.

Official results released. Mind you elections didn't take place on one seat because a candidate had passed away so election for that will be next week. One seat is contentious, PPP had won it but the margin was razor thin the runner-up PTI candidate asked for recount and he won in the recount. Now PPP is challenging recount so result for that one seat has not been released. Furthermore, one PPP candidate won on two different seats so he will have to vacate it and by-elections will be held there which most likely will be won by PTI.

I Think Bilawal has refused to accept the results. He wants to start protests against rigging.

That was the sole purpose of his campaign.
Results were never in doubt. All PPP/PMLn wanted was an opportunity to chant "dhandli".

BBZ and MNS are not so naive to have expected more than couple of seats. Or they are?

'Naked rigging': Bilawal vows to use all options to contest PPP losses in GB elections

PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Monday levelled a host of allegations regarding irregularities in Gilgit-Baltistan's elections, saying his party will use all its legal options against the "open and naked rigging" in the polls.

Addressing a press conference in Gilgit a day after polls closed and unofficial results showed the PPP had won only three out of the 24 seats in the GB Legislative Assembly, Bilawal claimed that results were manipulated "overnight" for elections on seats that the PPP was winning and the party was declared to have lost them during the day.

Citing an example, Bilawal said PPP candidate Jameel Ahmed was winning the election by 1,000 votes last night "but this morning an attempt was being made to hand over that seat to PTI by two votes".

He said Forms-45 were not matching in the contest that Ahmed was a part of, and the PPP candidate would lose only if the Election Commission's forms were considered, which he alleged "did not bear the signatures of polling agents and were without attested documents".

He said the party has received similar complaints from all over GB. "In GB-13, no polling took place at all in two villages [and] weather was made an excuse. Our first demand will be that the election on that seat is not complete until everyone has been allowed to cast their vote," he added.

Bilawal shared what he termed his party's "strong reservations" in GBLA-18, where he claimed "women have been disenfranchised and not allowed to vote". He further said the GB Election Commission did not provide the facilities to PPP candidate Saadia Danish that would enable her to run her own campaign in the constituency and that she didn't even get the permission to file her nomination papers in that area.

"The way [ballots] were stamped there in order to meet the 10 per cent threshold, as part of a muk-muka (covert deal), that seat too would be going towards re-election if the Election Commission had been working as per the law," the PPP leader said.

He alleged that ballot boxes were stolen in GBLA-21 from where Ayub Shah fought the election on a PPP ticket and a first information report was lodged regarding this. "How can the so-called Election Commission ignore this kind of open and naked rigging? How can they ignore the theft of the vote of this area's people?

"PPP ended raajgiri system here, we won't let it return in any other condition. We will protect the vote of this area's people. We don't think a seat's election has any value if its polling boxes were stolen. Either they should be brought back or re-polling should be held in those areas," he stressed.

Bilawal alleged that sectarianism was spread "deliberately" in GBLA-1 and Skardu, and was used politically to make the PPP lose.

"We think this playing with the fire for a seat, for an election ... is akin to playing with the fate of these people. We won't allow this to become a political card. We won't allow the concept of 'divide and rule' to be taken this far ... only to make your favourite party win," he said.

He further said the PPP was ready to use "all its options" to protect the vote of the GB residents and was approaching the courts as well as the Election Commission.

He alleged that some federal ministers and special assistants to the prime minister had committed "contempt of court" by arriving in the region and campaigning till the election day.

"We are expecting as a result of our petition, not only are those ministers disqualified but also the candidates for whom they were campaigning," he said, adding that in contrast, the PPP had accepted the court decision barring him from campaigning "unwillingly".

"When PPP's prime minister can be disqualified and held in contempt, then surely we expect that action will be taken against the PTI ministers and their candidates who violated the Pakistan Constitution and law," he said.

According to Bilawal, the PPP was also collecting evidence regarding the trips allegedly made by ministers to GB even before the court order barring public office holders from campaigning in the region was issued.

"But the red line they crossed, the way they were talking about distributing Pakistan's funds here [and] were promising federal projects in exchange for votes, we take this very seriously," he said.

Addressing the GB Election Commission, he said: "If you couldn't stop them (ministers), then the fact that they have not only used and abused state resources, but are on the record of trying to bribe the people of GB [...] at the very least those candidates should be disqualified.

"We are going to the Election Commission against each and every single PTI candidate for whom the federal ministers while campaigning announced federal funds and projects. This is our legal option and right."

Bilawal thanked the people of GB for turning up to vote, saying their interest during the entire campaign was "a testament to [their] commitment to democracy".

As unofficial results of the hotly contested GB elections were released on Monday, the PTI was leading after having bagged 10 seats, followed by independent candidates who have so far won seven seats.

The PPP was able to win on three seats followed by the PML-N with two seats.

As many as 330 candidates, including four women, were vying for the 24 general seats in the third legislative assembly of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Bilawal says elections in G-B ‘stolen’

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday claimed that the Gilgit-Baltistan ‘election was stolen’, as unofficial results from Sunday’s polls showed the party only managing to bag three seats.

The party chairman also participated in a protest against alleged rigging in front of the returning officer’s office in the region.

The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) emerged as the victor of Gilgit-Baltistan elections as the party and its ally managed to secure at least 11 seats, according to unofficial and unconfirmed results.

The PTI bagged 10 seats, independent candidates won seven and PPP managed to clinch three seats.

Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM), an ally of PTI, has emerged victorious in one out total 23 constituencies up for grabs while Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) only managed to bag two seats.

The crooked traitors humiliated. Just imagine what the Kaptaan will do to the treacherous crooks if inflation is controlled.

Lol Bilawal pullin' a Trump card.

I'm glad Pakistan has secured its northern frontier.

impossible. Interior Sindh will always make sure PPP wins.

Its the reason the crooks of the PPP have kept them as illiterate serfs. The Kaptaan is a one man wrecking ball against these crooks and dont be surprised that Sindh becomes a competitive election. Billo was squealing after the humiliation in GB, he will be squealing even more when Sindh is threatened and their cash cow comes to end.

I hope elections in Sindh are shamelessly rigged next time so that PPP lose otherwise the slaves will keep voting for them and we Karachiites will remain enslaved. Either that or make Karachi another province so that we are not held hostage by the Sindhi waderas.

PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday lashed out at the PTI government for "rigging" the Gilgit-Baltistan elections, saying "no one in Pakistan was ready to accept the fake result" of GB polls.

"Despite stealing PML-N nominees, despite stealing elections, despite posting officials of all agencies in Gilgit-Baltistan for months, despite manipulation, how many seats did he get? Only eight," she said in a speech in Mansehra.

"Even those seats are not his, those seats are courtesy of PML-N nominees that were stolen," the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's daughter said and added: "We won't congratulate Imran Khan for those eight seats, we congratulate the selectors."

Maryam said that she had stayed in GB for eight to 10 days for the election campaign and during that time the region was only voicing support for PML-N supremo Nawaz. She said that even though there was no internet in many remote areas of GB, people were aware of Nawaz's narrative of vote ko izzat do (give respect to vote). The PML-N vice president declared that Nawaz's "narrative had buried" the politics of the ruling PTI.

"It is because of Nawaz Sharif's narrative that despite a fixed match, you did not get a mandate, you only got crutches," she said.

In the 2018 general election, Maryam said, the "selected" was brought to power through rigging. "But today, the difference is that despite rigging, this fake (prime minister) could not win."

Maryam noted that it was often said that GB residents vote for the party that is in power in Islamabad. When PPP was in government, Maryam recalled, it won 14 seats in GB. Similarly, when PML-N was in power, it won 16 seats in GB and "did not need crutches to form a government" in the region. The PTI had only managed to win eight seats despite rigging, she insisted and added that the party members should "hide their faces after such an awful loss".

She said that in the recent election, GB residents had "voted for dignity" instead of their interests.

"Why would GB people vote for you (PTI)? What have you given to the rest of Pakistan that you would have given to Gilgit-Baltistan?"

The complete but unofficial results of all 23 constituencies, where polling was held on Sunday, show that the PTI has emerged as the single largest party with 10 seats, followed by seven independents. The PPP won three seats, the PML-N two and the Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen, which had a seat adjustment arrangement with the PTI, got one seat.

With the possible inclusion of four, out of six reserved seats for women, and two out of three reserved seats for technocrats, the total number of seats of the PTI and its allies will become 16 in the 33-member GBLA, indicating that it will need the support of only one more winning candidate to form the government.

Both PPP and PML-N have rejected the results and accused PTI of rigging the election.

Information Minister Shibli Faraz, in a press briefing today, dismissed the opposition's allegations, saying, "who are you to reject the results? What is your status?"

The federal minister went on to say: "People of Pakistan rejected you in 2018. Then in Gilgit-Baltistan, people badly rejected you. You are rejected people."

He said that opposition politicians who were levelling allegations of rigging had either been convicted by courts or were nominated in corruption cases.

"There is no example of the arrogance that you (opposition) are displaying in the history of Pakistani politics," he said. Without naming anyone, Faraz said that opposition figures who were delivering speeches had always sought power to benefit their businesses.

"Pakistan's people have thrown you, your politics, your narrative, your stance in a bin," the minister remarked. "You weren't even in the run for this election to make such speeches. Your poisonous narrative [to] defend your personal and family interests will not be acceptable to Pakistan's masses."

Faraz also commented on opposition alliance — the Pakistan Democratic Movement — and said that differences were already emerging among the parties which were part of PDM.

At least four vehicles, one of which belonged to an interim minister, and a building of Gilgit-Baltistan's forest department were torched by unidentified persons on Monday as a protest arranged by the PPP against alleged rigging in a constituency in the recent GB elections turned violent, police said.

Gilgit Senior Superintendent of Police Mirza Hussain said the violence started after a clash between security forces and protesters. He said there were no injuries and no one had been arrested. Police have sealed off roads in the region.

PPP's GB chapter President Advocate Amjad, however, said that several workers of the party were injured from tear gas shelling by police. He said demonstrations will be held in 12 districts from 12-4pm tomorrow.

Meanwhile, PPP's information secretary for GB Saadia Danish said that party workers had arranged a peaceful protest against alleged rigging in GBLA-II but the police used force to stop them. She said police resorted to baton-charge and aerial firing, which led to the disruption of peace. She held the local administration responsible for the law and order situation.

The returning officer of GBLA-II, in his report submitted last week, said that a forensic examination of the postal ballot papers should be conducted as their legitimacy was suspect.

However, today the chief election commissioner (CEC) of GB called the candidates who had contested from the constituency and said that he had not received any report from the RO but he did have the vote count. The candidates of PPP and PML-N, however, raised questions over the CEC's statement, saying that it was unlikely that he had not received the RO's report.

A winner from the constituency is yet to be announced.

Both PPP and PML-N have levelled allegations of rigging in the recent GB elections.
