GM Icon 909 impressions??

Looks fine. Play with it or test it with a mallet and see how it responds - as long as it plays well then don't worry too much about looks.

The thing is this is my first cricket bat in years. So I cant really tell from the mallet how good it is as I cant compare it with anything else. My season doenst start till April so I cant test it with a ball. The mallet does have a loud high pitched "bang" sound when it hits the middle

Bro every bat is different so there is no guarantee if you swap this one for another you will get a better one. If it sounds good and there is a bouncy response just knock it in (the toe and edges) and play with it.
Return the bat only if it does not feel comfortable in terms of weight or feel but otherwise good luck.

Welcome to PakPassion Imran, I hope you enjoy your stay here :).

Anyways, the bat looks lovely for 909. I have seen worst looking 909's. Pickup index of 1 is good too!

I don't know how it feels in hands but from specs and looks it seems like a good bat.

How do you like the feel?

I would say keep this as 90MPH bhai said there is no guarantee you'll get a better piece if you swap. YOu can get worst too!

GM bats take time to open up, since your season is a long way I'd say knock it and by the time season is near it will be very good bat.

Perhaps knock 5 minutes daily and by April it will be in prime state.

So, I should keep knocking it with a mallet at the sweet spot, as to open up the grains and make it be match ideal by April, even though it has GM now?

not the middle
I just made this quickly to show which area knocking in is needed the most (knock in the red) and to round the edges just run the bat on the corners of edge up and down a rounded surface like kitchen counter. And then you can knock in the rest of the bat but not as much time is needed.
