Which places to visit in London?

Specially Pakistani places like Halal food desi food

Where you people recommended to visit

thanks :inti

I never been, but I hear it's expensive. Have a good time and let us know how it was

Southall, Hounslow, Wembley (West London), East ham, Upton Park, Ilford (East London), Tooting (South London) - A few of many places where you will get Pakistani food.

But If I am on a holiday, I would go none of these desi areas. Visit some nice places man and enjoy the best that Britain has to offer :boycott

100% agree. IN fact I would say London is overrated.

Wales for example is just drop dead gorgeous!

Similar to visiting Canada and going to Brampton. :yk

I can say for certain that London is indeed overrated, and if you are worried about paying over the odds at Pakistani restaurants etc, then prepare yourself for London attractions.

Outside of London, the UK is a beautiful country, For the past 3 years I have been on Staycations (holidays within a country) and not only is it economical, but also mind blowing.

Hire a car, pack you bags, and travel the UK - you will not regret it. Oh switch off your phone!

On another note, what the hell is the point in visiting Pakistani restaurants when on holiday? When on holiday you should try and aim for a new experience.

Your appetite is never completely fulfilled until you have desi food. :ns

Strange, I thought London is the main place to see. I always hear people reference London

London is the city to be. It is expensive though.

If you want to visit desi areas of london - there are many ..food options are great for desi and non desi halal. There is also alot of dross too.
There are a variety of cuisines to have.

I been to most towns outside London and they do not compare. London is 24/7 with lots to do. Architecture, museums, galleries, palaces in or around london.

Again it is upto the person on what type of holiday you want.

Other parts of the UK are indeed beautiful especially the countryside, hills and forests...you will not experience that in London.

But, it depends on your budget really.

Apart from pies, fish and chips; we do not really have a cousine here. Ofcourse, the benefits are that there a lot of cousines to chose from as many people migrated to the UK :)

It really depends on what you want to see but London doesn't define the UK. If you are looking for tourist attractions, the London is clearly the winner and of course places to eat. Otherwise outside of London there is far more to see and absorb.

My favourite city by some distance. London has a charm which you will not find in any other mega city, although Paris is strikingly similar. I don't agree that it is overrated but to each his/her own.

However, if you are looking for tranquillity and natural beauty, you will not find that in London. There are other places in England and the UK (esp. Scotland) where you will enjoy a more natural experience.

I can recommend a lot but I usually refrain from doing so because it greatly depends on what you are looking for. Food, shopping, art, history, entertainment etc. etc. there is so much to do in London and if you are only going to be there for a few days, you must clearly decide your priorities and plan from there.

Enjoy your trip, you will surely not regret it.

Why is it the city to be? I know several people who left the crazy fast life that people live in London for the more normal life outside.

Apart from the museums London is a craphole.

I have been London many times and charm is not the word I'd use. Congested, trashy and over-priced are what I'd say it is. Apart from the museums and some of the tourist spots, what exactly is there that is charming?

You get people pushing and shoving for 20 mins before you can get on the tube. Parking is a nightmare just about everywhere. If parking isn't a pain then the bus lanes are.

Then there's the attitude and lifestyle of Londoners. I was once out with former Uni mates in London and 8pm on a Saturday they were walking so fast like they had a flight to catch, why not slow down? People in London think that outside of London the UK doesn't exist, it's part of the reason why there's such a huge divide.

My advice to the OP, there's loads and loads of Halal options all over London. You'll get low and top end meals but don't plan your time around food, plan it around the museums and other tourist attractions. Then once done get the hell out and breathe again.

Depends how much time you have, common touristy places to see in one day are Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar square, Buckingham palace, Tower of London, View from the Shard, London eye and boat rides on the Thames.

Areas with a bigger variety of good desi foods are in order of preference, Southall Broadway, Green Street, Brick Lane.

However in London you have too many good option for Halal gourmet burgers joints all over the city and middle eastern restaurants in and around Edgware Road.

I would take the overrated comments with a pinch of Salt, London has a unique charm specially in the late spring / summer months, there is a reason why tourists from budget backpackers to Arabs in their Ferrari's keep flocking back year on year.

Lol no. There are plenty of things to do in London apart from being in museums. There are 7 Royal Parks and each of them have got their own charm for example. Then one can enjoy shopping, nightlife, landmarks, monuments everything. Like any big cities, their are few areas to avoid and London is no different.

The best thing about London in general is its commute. You hop on a train and find yourself in a serene countryside or a big city like Paris/Amsterdam and all within 2 hours. A luxury people of States/Australia will never get. I used to drive for 2 hours just to get from Philadelphia to NYC in rush hours when I was in states :))

Unique charm? 5 mins at any tube station and on the tube and that statement goes down the dustbin.

Is rush hour in London any better? Have you ever tried to get on a tube at any London station between 7:30 and 10? It's a nightmare and people have a total disregard for anyone and everyone around them. I hate my time there, hated working and living there, felt like Tim Robbins did at the end of The Shawshank Redemption when I finally got to move out.

The USA is a huge country and so is Canada and Australia. It's much more expensive and difficult for them to have the public transport infrastructure that we have in the UK.

I commute to work at Blackfriars station every morning using district line and though I agree peak hours is bit rough but thats in every city. You must travel in Mumbai trains in peak hours to realize what nightmare is :srini

When you leave London you truly appreciate it. It truly has it's own charm and a visit to London is on the cards. I am Sydney now living by the beach but dreary London still holds it charm

The London people have the most charming accent, it sounds most proper and elegant. Quite different from the north part of UK

.

Yup, public transport during rush hour, even from Zone 6, is just madness. If I wanted to work in central London, I expect to be paid double my salary for the hassle. I am quite happy working in Zone 6 London, as I live in Zone 6 London!

How many of you who do not believe London is overrated, actually live in London, or where brought up in London from birth? Judging London based on a few holiday trips is totally different to judging London when you are born and bred in London.

Right now there is a growing trend of people down-scaling, by moving out of London.

London is a great city to visit, arguably the best in the world. Some on this thread are discussing living in London which is another ball game.

Halal food is not an issue at all. Every other km there is a halal food place, just use google maps. Southall obviously has the resturants in numbers so I would take a few hours to check them out.

If you're into sport, then London is the greatest sporting city in the world. You have Lords, the best cricket ground, Wembley stadium the best footbal ground, Wimbledon the best tennis arena, O2 for boxing is great too.

Or just viist all the famous landmarks and parks. There are 8/9 excellent museums in London. GB being a former imperial superpower, you will find all sorts of rare and amazing artificats taken from other lands.

Shoreditch and Camden Town are great areas to walk around in with a lot of street food and culture.

i live in London. Born here, spent a few years in Pakistan and then here for last twenty years.

i find the pace just right, i can get to where ever in the city when i need, shops stay open till decent hours, people walk at the right pace. theres usually something to do most nights, Friday, sat night especially.

i appreciate other cities for their aesthetic beauty but usually tire of the slow pace after a few days as i find them too slow. the only other city i could imagine myself living in is NY which i really liked.

all this before even coming to the people, yes Londoners are generally withdrawn and private, but i've found people here generally far more aware of the world and tend to have a greater aversion to prejudgements.

yes London is expensive, but it also affords you opportunities to earn good money.

Agree with this.

Having lived and worked all over the UK, there is nothing compared to London if your trip is a bucket-list. Some of the best museums in the world (as a result of Britain's colonial past - and all free), a cosmopolitan culture, and some world class tourist landmarks. It's very expensive, but so are other great cities like Paris, NY, Rome and Saint Petersburg.

I'd also visit Scotland (Edinburgh, Highlands), Canterbury, Oxford & Stratford-upon-Avon.

Just came back from London last night. Some recommendations:
1. Landmarks - British museum (free), London Eye, Tower Bridge, Hyde Park, Big Ben, walk along Thames river
2. Food - Drummond St (Euston Station) - Raavi Kebab, Ambala Sweets, many fast food places, Edgeware Road (tons of Arabian restaurants), Southall but did not visit so can't say for sure
3. Shopping/night life - Oxford street, piccadilly circus/Soho/china town, Bond street, Camden Market, Knightsbridge (Harrods), Marylbone (Baker Street), Carnaby, Shoreditch, Westfield stratford (Khadi, Agha noor, Nandos)
4. Get Oyster card and use tube to travel to these destinations

3. Shopping/night life - Oxford street, piccadilly

this is pbly the only part of London that has greatly regressed imo.

i remember when everyone used to love going to oxford street for clothes or electrical shopping. amazon and the westfields totally killed it off, and oxford street and tottenham court road at least are some of the least inspiring shopping points in London now.

if Badboy_1 wants upmarket shopping i would suggest mayfair, as u have literally every brand u could want in a 20 odd minute walking distance but it is not cheap. but for mid or lower prices shopping i would avoid central london shopping as its mostly a rip off imho.

take a twenty minute tube ride into east or west london for the westfields and you are likely to have a more pleasent shopping experience if you're aiming for lower to mid price point.

Beg to differ.....commuting anywhere is a pain.....try getting on a bus in Sydney (which I do daily) it isn't fun don't even have a train to my place.

London is AMAZING. Greatest & most diverse city in the world. There are more languages spoken here than any where else. The food scene is extraordinary but I cannot comment on "pakistani" food since I eat everything & do not focus one any single type of cuisine.
As for the "must sees" -
Museums: British museum (showcasing everything we have stolen from the rest of the world when we ruled half of it), probably the finest museum anywhere; Natural history museum - my favourite, Science museum, V&A museum - all of these are free. MOMI - The museum of the moving Image, a cinema museum is wonderful.
Sights - Tower bridge & the Tower of London - got to go there; St Paul's cathedral, probably London eye, Madame Tussaud's (bit of a tourist trap and expensive); I LOVE the Sherlock Holmes museum in Baker street (naturally).
The fantastic parks - Hyde, Regents, Kew gardens etc
Cruise on the Thames.
Walk along the south bank from Southwark cathedral to the Globe theatre.

I think I will stop here - more than enough for you to pick & choose.
Welcome to the greatest city on the planet!!
