Govt may use cloud seeding tech to induce artificial rains in Karachi

All this government had to do was to mobilize water bottles and wet towels throughout Karachi. Also set up shades and camps. This alone would have avoided the unnecessary deaths.

Rain could give a nice break from the heat

honestly don't think that's practical or would even be allowed.

Govt could do away with ehtram ramzan ordinance when people are dropping dead like flies.

its mindset of the people which is hard to change and the religious right who have undue influence and an element of thuggery

A proper supply of water and electricity would be great, for starters, and a whole lot more practical too.

Some days have gone without power/water for up to 2-3 days - this is absolutely brutal, considering the heat and fasts. Totally unbelievable from the authorities.

Was talking to parents and ther are severe water shortages and they are having to call water tankers. and this is in very well off areas so dunno how bad it is in other areas

Some areas*

A step in right direction would be,

A: Provide dam water, instead of sending it Bahria projects.

B: Sort of electricity issue.

mid-end july but there are good chances it may remain dry

It's raining heavily in Bombay, Karachi is not that far away... It should son be there....

Our MeT had predicted a below par monsoon but it's raining cats and dogs, so don't worry you will have good rains before idd

Being in the shade in a city during a heatwave is not much use. If anything, it makes the problem worse since the shade is not provided by trees and shrubs, but by man-made concrete structures which, along with the roads and pavements, soak up the suns rays and start acting like storage radiators radiating heat thus compounding the problem.

There is little airflow as it is in built-up cities to take the heat away, and sitting in places where the airflow is further restricted makes it that much worse.

Also, setting up camps, presumably with people sitting in tents, will just make it even worse - no airflow and all those packed bodies emitting body heat! It will be like sitting in an oven, with all the packed bodies acting like heat generators!.

Best place to be during a heatwave? Out in the middle of the countryside, sitting under the shade of trees.

This post of yours and the other one regarding electricty distrubution during the night/day have been informative and hopefully useful to some. Keep it up.

That’s one way to beat the heat!

Officials in Dubai are using drones to artificially increase rainfall as the city grapples with oppressive heat, video this week shows.

The rainmaking technology, known as “cloud seeding,” was put into use as summer temperatures have surged past 120 degrees Fahrenheit in the United Arab Emirates city, the Independent reported.

Experts have said the technology aims to make rain form more efficiently inside clouds and in doing so, make more water come down.

Drones are used to shoot electrical charges into clouds, causing them to clump together and trigger more rainfall.

Footage shared on Sunday by the UAE’s National Center of Meteorology showed the intense showers flooding roads in addition to flashes of lightning.

Rainmaking has become common in dry countries such as the United Arab Emirates, which typically only records four inches of rain a year, the Independent reported.

“The global water shortage is worsening in many parts of the world, so the demand for fresh water is increasing,” said Linda Zou, a professor at the UAE’s Khalifa University of Science and Technology.

“Cloud seeding could be one of the methods that can contribute to alleviating the water problem.”
