The GOI has now intervened into the Lodha Committee/Supreme Court/BCCI saga. The Attorney General today, representing 3 govt bodies,Railways,Services and Universities asked the Supreme Court to recall its order implementing Lodha Committee recommendations.

The recommendations would have downgraded Railways,Universities and Services to associate members of BCCI without any vote.AG Mukul Rohatgi objected to this and purpotedly asked the SC what right it had to downgrade the membership of these associations.

He also reportedly asked the SC about what was wrong if the Raliway minister was an office bearer.

The AG also asked the court that the Lodha Committee was formed to punish the those found guilty in 2013 IPL betting saga, then how can court become a reformist body and force reforms on the BCCI.The AG also questioned the logic of a body of retired judges overseeing the working of a private association like BCCI.

The Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Misra then posted the matter for hearing on 24th Jan.

Very Logical and sensible queries put by the AG. No matter what the intentions of The Supreme Court were, this was a pure exercise judicial over reach of the highest order!

A middle ground would have to be found!
Relegations of Railways, services to associate level would be beyond degrading. Remember MSD!! :msd

Good ,SC should first reform itself and then become a champion of other causes.

They are already under the pump because of JalliKattu protest. Ordinance on the way.

Yeah that was a weird case, they did similar thing in that as well, the case was something else it somehow suddenly got Jallikattu involved when it was not in scope and now that HC judge sits in SC.

Ordinance will be nullified here!! SC judgement against Jallikattu is perfectly in line with their jurisdiction and the laws!

Nopes it isnt.I dont want to derail the thread. But still to give a clarification,JalliKattu was banned in 2014,after Jairam Ramesh led environment ministry issue a notification removing bulls from performing animals list.In 2016 the govt re added the Bulls to performing animal list but this time the SC stayed the notification. Why allowing notification in 2011 but staying it in 2016?

Lets not derail the thread any further and move the discussion to time pass.

Simple thing was that issue is still a legal discussion. But Lodha committee transformed itself from an investigative committee to advisory to judicial to executive roles too!! " Lakshamn rekha" being crossed in more ways the one in this regard. But it was good to see the high and mighty of BCCI getting spanked a little.

as if this sc has no major issues aside from cricket they are destroying only true professional sport in India

The SC had no job suggesting the reforms. The question brought before SC was to adjudicate the Conflict of Interest of Srini and subsequent issues of CSK and Meiyappan not getting punished. The SC went beyond that and started reforming a private body.

If SC is allowed to do this they could rampant doing whatever they want in every organization of the country. Not to forget BCCI is registered as a private body!! Judges becoming overlords of the country.

BTW reforms suggestion are usually part of most committee mandates. To implement those reforms or not are left to the government or the executive. Here SC went full ******!

Do you think if this order is recalled, credibility of SC would take a major hit (not that it already hasn't).

Also why is AG intervening so late? Is it because Thakur and BCCI tried all 'paitras' and failed?

They waited for Justice Thakur to retire.Thats what i believe.
