The Supreme Court on Monday ordered BCCI president Anurag Thakur, secretary Ajay Shirke to forthwith cease and demit office. The apex court also issued a contempt notice to Mr. Thakur.

The court requested senior advocates Fali Nariman and Gopal Subramaniam to assist in nominating persons of impeccable integrity as members of a committee of administrators who will look after the affairs of the BCCI.

All office bearers of the BCCI and State associations who refuse to abide by the recommendations of the Lodha panel shall demit office forthwith, it added.

On September 21, a Supreme Court Bench led by Chief Justice of India T.S. Thakur prima facie concluded that BCCI's top administrators, including its president Mr. Thakur, were an impediment to the Lodha Committee's efforts to reform Indian cricket.

The panel was formed in January 2015 in the wake of the Justice Mudgal Committee report that called for reforms within the BCCI. The Mudgal panel had gone into state of affairs of the BCCI following the 2013 IPL betting and spot-fixing charges.

Supreme court is hell bent on destroying the only game which is run professionally in india

It was on the cards. Anurag Thakur , Shirke took SC ruling for granted.

Wait for saurav ganguly to take over from thakur then u can see how powerful bcci can even become

It seems that the Indian SC wants a piece of the $BN action involving the Bcci.

BCCI fought hard and cheated harder but Kanoon ke haath bahut lambe hote hain!

Just a quick update,

The senior most VP of BCCI takes over as President.

Amitabh Choudhury takes over as Secretary.

Rahul Johri the CEO to look after day to day work.

A committee to temporarily supervise the BCCI work till all Lodha committee reforms are implemented and a new body is elected. The members of the committee to be named by on Jan 19.

I can assure you this will make little difference to BCCI as the Sports Code legislation will soon override Lodha committee recommendations.

cricketjoshila joshila bhai what will happen to thakur and shirke now ? Are they permanently debarred or they can make a come back again?

Vice president from our state mr raju is already claming to bcci presidency post

Vice president from our state mr raju is already claming to bcci presidency post

I guess Mr.Gangaraju is one of the VPs and he fulfills the Lodha Commitee reccomendations.Mr CK Khanna of Delhi is another VP who may claim the Presidents post.Lets see what happens. But all in all a BJP person will take over by the looks of it.

So age restriction and One state one vote will go?

Most of the Sports code legislation is likely to be based on the present uniform sports code and it has no such restrictions.

Some of the recommendations make little sense. If people can be PMs,MPs at more than 70 years of age,why not BCCI President? What wrong in that?

How is it fair that Manipur gets a vote but Mumbai doesnt?

While i agree that not giving mumbai a vote is a dumb idea, you cannot compare pm and mp's with sports body presidents or vp's, as mp's are elected representatives while the Sports body presidents and vp's are administrators and all administrators should have a retirement age as is the norm.

This is an acitvist court...
I am not sure how i feel about it tbh.

That's sad: I really admire India for imposing the rule of law in this case.

Incorrect. All state association administrators are elected by the local clubs and all BCCI administrators are elected by state associations.

Indian institutions needs little kick in bum time to time.

Yea let SC run the country.Right?

Sing National Anthem in theatres. No liquor shops on the highway. How to run cricket. How to run medical colleges. No jokes on sardars etc etc.

But they wont allow accountability.

Tell me how is it fair that the SC sits on judgement over the NJAC bill which was passed by both houses of Parliament to make judges accountable. And then they strike it down.

Some recommendations are just plain impractical.
The report and its recommendations are too radical, seem naive. Lodha has no experiencing in cricket administration( not sure about other members of the panel) yet his recommendations are very bold. SC doesn't seem to care about this and their constant drive to force the BCCI's hand over every reommendation is not good. some common sense flexibility was needed. This will unravel a bag of internal power politics, not sure with a better solution or not.

Thakur is already gone.

Iam all for activist courts but in a poor country like India there are dozens of other matters that are significantly more important than a sports body. How about trying to reform the Police, the Ministry of Transportation etc etc... ?

This type of argument is really pointless. Courts don't decide upon priorities.

No. Courts should not run country and they definitely should not be above accountability. Our judiciary isn't perfect, but this time the right decision was made. Court rightly stuck down stupid part of Lodha recommendations and kept good ones.

Someone like Ganguly or Dravid should take over the role. Meanwhile, we are still stuck with a pensioner.

Well then somebody needs to make that as a priority to reform the freakin Judicial system in the first place lol ... Even in a super rich country like the USA the courts do not bother with these trivial matters.

How is it trivial matter given cricket's starus and economy in india, nothing wrong with SC making bcci clean up their shop, what you are asking in earlier post is plain stupid, SC does not run country they can't initiate reforms nor is the bcci thing suo moto, also a quick Google search revealed that even us SC has had more than a few cases with regards to sports and none come close to dealing with sport wide reforms the way this one does.

Rumour is that Ganguly is set to becoming BCCI president.

Fingers crossed !! Dada was always cut out for greater things !.. Hope power doesn't corrupt him .....

Joke of a court lakhs of pending cases and they are taking interest in cricket.

They can't even make a decision on homosexuality where they passed the buck to the Parliament but want to interfere in office of BCCI,y not let the sports ministry decide this as well.

BCCI vs Lodha: Supreme Court expected to name interim board administrators today

The Supreme Court is expected to name the interim committee of BCCI administrators on 24 January. The announcement was due on 19 January, but was subsequently postponed, first by a day and then to Tuesday.

On 20 January, Amicus Curiae Gopal Subramanium had submitted nine names as nominations for the BCCI administrators, which were submitted to the apex court in a sealed envelope.

The Attorney General Mukul Rohtagi, appearing on behalf of the BCCI, had added that any decision of the apex court that affects the cricket body could also affect the government, despite the BCCI being a private body. The Attorney General had therefore urged the Court to reconsider its decision to strip former president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke of their powers.

Another development was the Supreme Court verdict which stated that persons who have a cumulative tenure of 18 years in the BCCI and that state units are eligible to be elected as office bearers subject to a cooling off period. This was welcomed by several senior officials including those whose administrative careers got a new lease of life.

Earlier, on 2 January, the Supreme Court had removed its president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke, saying they should "forthwith cease and desist from" the board's work. The bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur had also said that the working of BCCI will be looked after by a committee of administrators.

The bench had requested senior advocate Fali S Nariman and Gopal Subramanian, who were assisting in the matter as amicus curaie, to assist the court in nominating persons of impeccable integrity as the members in the committee of administrators. However, Nariman recused himself and the Court chose Anil B Divan in his place.

The bench, also comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud, said that Nariman and Subramanian will complete the task in two weeks and the matter for passing the direction for nominating the persons in committee of administrators was set to be complete by 19 January.

Earlier in the month, the apex court also decided to initiate contempt proceedings against Thakur by seeking his response as to why he should not be held liable for obstructing the implementation of the court's directions aimed at reforming BCCI.

The verdict had made it clear that as per the recommendations of the Lodha panel which has been accepted by the apex court, no person above 70 years of age, unsound mind, ministers, government servant, convicted persons and those who have held the posts for cumulative period of nine years and those who are part of any other sports association shall be eligible to hold any position in the cricket bodies.

Why doesnt the state take over BCCI once and for all? All this discussion of it being a non-government org or semi-govt. org. will be ended that way.

If supreme court feels BCCI's functions are same as other public functions then why not push for a state take over?

SC appointed COA panel sacks BCCI media manager

Days after reports of confidential Indian cricket team's dressing room talks being leaked to former BCCI president Anurag Thakur, the Supreme Court appointed panel, Committee of Administrators, sacked the board media manager on Monday.

On February 1, the new panel took the decision that all board officials appointed by Thakur and ex-secretary Ajay Shirke would be relieved from their respective positions.

In a report in DNA , two senior Indian team members had claimed that Nishant Jeet Arora was communicating dressing room information to Thakur and trying to create rift between players.

"Is he (media manager) there to make things easy for us or to irritate us?" the report quoted a senior team member as saying. "There is so much of mistrust between players about who is leaking our personal conversation to the outside world."

The report further claimed that Arora was confronted by a senior member during India's tour of USA last year where they played two T20Is against West Indies for allegedly creating rift between the aforementioned player and coach.

"Media manager's job is to deal with the media but this guy (Arora) is all over the place... inside dressing room, during team celebrations, in team discussions regarding playing eleven etc," said the player.
