Im planning to go for my masters soon and I have to take GRE exam. I needed some advice from people that have taken it on how long does it take to prepare and what books and resources did you use to prepare for the exam?

I wonder if the Barrons Big Book still exists. That was the go-to book back when I took it.

My reading habit really helped in the language section, otherwise it can be a real pain memorizing those 7500 words, with synonyms and antonyms and whatnot.

....

Are you curious about my score? No? Well I'll tell you anyhow, because I like to boast about it. 780 Math, 700 English, 6 in the essay. That's a 90th, 98th and 98th percentile in the three sections respectively.

Barron's is good for getting tricks on how to solve questions but I wouldn't use it for practice questions....they are a notch below as compared to what you will see on your test day.

To go with Barron, I would advise you to go through the ETS official book for GRE....its from the same guys who compile the GRE test so the level of the questions is about the same.

Make sure to attempt mock tests before the official test.

Get a date for the test so you have a fixed time in mind and that will help you to focus.

Finally if you are in RWP/ISB, you can take preparatory classes from USEFP in F-6 sector, that is if you don't have time because of a job or having trouble with the course.

Good Luck !!!

7500 or 750?

And could you suggest me as to how I can nail the RC part?

Read that book for Verbal in the GRE Exam. This was way back in 2000.

I heard that the format has completely changed now.

If I remember correctly, which I usually but not always do, it really was 7500, not 750, but I took the test back in 2005, so a lot may have changed since.

For RC, or any of the other sections, practice makes perfect. I'm sure there are still books and online resources that will help. You can go through whatever passages they use as examples, and answer the questions.

So I've heard. I'm glad that particular chapter of my life is done and dusted.
