It's hard to think of a great that hasn't taken 10. Every name I think of I check and they have a ten'fer.
Makes me wonder if you can really be a great without one.
Maybe a very good bowler but probably not a great. And that's where I'd put Bob Willis.

Actually Hazlewood has better average than Gillespie. Averaing 24 with more wickets than Gillespie. He is yet to take a 10fer. It is hard to take 10fer for these guys given that how they split the wickets.. Starc has 2 -10fers. Cummin 2-10fers. Lyon 5-10fers.

He was not a great Test match bowler. Only teams he bullied was New zealad, Srilanka.

He has 310 Test wickets. That too as an express bowler. Most express bowlers frequently get injured and don't get anywhere close to 300 wickets.

What about the "big bird" Jeol Garner. 259 wickets for him and average if 21 almost.

WI bowlers during that time frame (75-2004) had low 10 fer. Marshall 4 , Ambrose - Walsh 3 , Holding-Roberts 2. On the other hand Hadlee had 9 10 fers.

Case of splitting the wickets. Same reason w hy Murali has so many fifers. Apart from Vaas nobody else to take wickets for his side.
I agree it’s a good achievement, but the top express bowlers manage a 10fer.
This is why he was rated below shoaib akhtar as a match winner. But there’s no shame in that.

There is no separate rating for express pacers, if they average 32 they cant be rated with the best of all time.
I never said any of these bowlers are great. I said the “greatest” who didn’t take 10 wickets.
