Who do you think was the best ODI batsman to have come from Pakistan?

Miandad
Abbas
Inzy
Anwar
Yousuf

A tie between Inzamam and Anwar. One was a very good middle-order batsman while the other was a very good opener.

Pakistan have yet to produce a truly great ODI batsman, unlike in test cricket where we have had several. Babar Azam will hopefully be the first.

Zaheer Abbas was superb for the few matches he played. He was world class during his time and probably second best in the world but did not play enough to be called a true 'great'.

Miandad for me. Never have we produced anyone more clutch. Pakistan's best batsman ever.

Zaheer
.
Javed
Saeed/Inzi
Mazid
MoYo

In that order - not sure whom to put ahead between Inzi & Saeed.

All time XII will have this order -

Saeed, Mazid
Zaheer, Javed, Inzi
Imran*, Razzak, Latif+
Wasim, Saq, Waquar/Qadir

I'll go with Javed Miandad

SR of 67 is too low...(basically you are making 200 in 50 overs, even low for that era....

Actually, apart from Viv & Zaheer, other's SR in that era was like (need to check for precise numbers)

The end of Miandad's career skews these numbers. He was striking at 60 (avg 35) in the last 6-7 years of his career. Before that it was 46/71 type stats...

Shoaib Malik since his return is by far the best ODI batsman we have ever produced.

Unfortunately you cannot expunge the stats of his earlier career from his overall stats.

I think we cannot pick and choose otherwise ithere will be no objectivity.

But lets entertain your argument, 46/71 is not much different as comparatively he is takin 3 more balls to score 4 more runs. (Before he used up 62 balls with below par SR vs used up 65 balls with below par SR)

As a general rule, higher avg with below par SR is more harmful to the team.

46/71 is excellent considering the era (late 70s, through 80s). That SR was not below-par at the time.

The 30/65 stats in the latter part of his career showed that he declined overall as a batsman and the SR was particularly below par.

Also with regards to the difference between SR 71 vs SR 65, the game evolved in the 90s with batsmen beginning to score with SRs of close to and higher than 80 such as Anwar, Aravinda, Ranatunga, Sachin etc. So SR 70 in late 70s and 80s would have been a good SR but it would have been just about average in the 90s.

Miandad played upto 96 plus your point is not much relevant considering as we are looking for the best

Anyway for the sake of argument, lets look at the SR of Saleem Malik, Ijaz, Saeed, I think even Zander had a better SR who retired long before JM.

Zaheer was a class apart, followed by Miandad, Inzamam, Saeed, MoYo.

As I said, we cannot pick and choose. (It's feel like begging for mercy)
Anyway, please estabIish that in 80s, 213 in 50 overs, was par score. (I think QF 96WC was his last match so we can easily compare his SR with other pakistani players)

P.S. nothing against him just want to be objective.

It's widely accepted that he retired later than he should have and that he was a shadow of his former self by then. So if we're going to compare base stats then I don't see the harm in omitting the latter stages of his career. His status of an ODI batsman is not really in question when it comes to Pakistani batsmen. Only Zaheer Abbas is often rated higher.

The average SR during the 80s was 66.5.

For a while he was one of the worst aswell however he's improved and now he's a decent ODI batsman how long will it last?

Maliks career was split into 4 stages IMO.

1999-2004 - when he bardly played a was a newbie at the international scene
2004-2009 - the prime of his career when he was our best ODI batsman. Do not know stats but he was insanely good in ODIs back then. Even Woolmer saw the long term potential in him and wanted him to play at no. 3 in ODI's
2009-2015 - his wilderness years when he became a ******** and a TTF and his performance declined with only 1 50 in 43 innings.
2015-Present - his resurgence that begin with his century against Zimbabwe in Lahore 2015. His stats I believe are avg of 50 at a SR 100 since then which are ATG numbers.

Overall he has had a good career and definitely a Pakistani great in ODI's.

Javed's Miandad's Strike Rate over the year.

At his peak (82-88) he had decent SR , with great average.
After that his form dipped alarmingly where both average and SR dipped.
He did had resurgence in 1992 (avg 50+) , but SR was still low for the era.
