Growing anger in Gulf over Muslim bashing in India

I am not going to write an essay on Hindutva, why don't you do some research on it ? to briefly put it, some aspects of Hindutva is protecting the Hindu way of life, however nowhere does it (as far as I know) instigate to convert people into Hinduism like Abhrahamic faiths, using scare tactics to the non believers like Hell fire etc...

maybe I will. However I have to correct you on your comment on Abrahamic faiths, but specifically Islam, Islam came corrected the idea that if you were not a Muslim you must be forceably converted. Ultimately Allah swt is the judge and there is no compulsion in the Deen. This is explicit and unambiguous in the Quran.

Sorry for jumping the queue, but I think I must put it on record what real hindutva is.

Hindutva is an nationalist inclusive ideology which does not discriminate. eg, white supremacists tell others that you are not a true white, like the one drop rule. Islamists tell other muslims that they are not true muslims if they don't adhere to their strict interpretation. On the other hand, hindutva tells everyone that we all are hindus. It tells muslims, that you are hindus. It tells Kashmiris that you are Indians. It tells others, that you are Us. While supremacist ideologies create an Us vs them, the peaceful hindutva ideology welcomes them as us. This is the real hindutva: a tolerant and inclusive ideology which the fragmented world needs more than ever before.

And what if a Muslim says "well actually I'm not a Hindu so no thanks". What is Hinduvta's response to that? What if a Muslim doesnt want to be a Hindu or say Jai shree ram?

I have had close relations with Hindu's here in the Uk. Never had a problem. My father past away and his most loyal employee who is a Hindu was taken to his grave and we allowed him to pour soil on my fathers grave. He is treated like an elder brother by me and my family. His son (a dr who I consider my nephew)stayed with us and the body to help ensure the proper paper work was done before we took the body to be washed for burial. If that is the Hinduvta you are talking about then I know it. But the Hinduvta we are now seeing in india claims Muslims are vermin and must be eliminated. That India is only for the Hindus not those that reject Hinduism. It encourages lynchings and forces Muslims to say and eat things they dont want to.

What is your opinion on this Hinduvta that we are seeing. mnnh? Why has this become prevalent since the supremacy of the BJP has been stamped onto the India body politic?

If they don't do that then mob lynching happens. Such a peaceful response by them.

Also that useless troll will never tell you about what hindus tell to Dalits and Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes in India. :inti

It is true certain section of the hindu community holds scars due to invaders and the partition. The indian muslims have got nothing to do with it. We ruled over them for 1000 years or they ruled over us for 1000 years, both sentiments are dangerous and have no place in a healthy society.

Do you know that gandhi was against cow slaughter, and he believed that hindus must convince muslims to give up not only cow meat, but all kinds of meat. He was sure that once hindus give up meat, they will be able to convince muslims to follow suit. In his prayer meetings he would equate Allah and Ram as the same. A precise description of Gandhi would be the hindutva as you see, minus the violence. He wanted Ram Rajya to be established ( similar to your Riasat-e-Madina). Now you see the problem? This man is considered the father of the nation. He is the very fountainhead of hindutva.

You will see ignorant or idiot indian posters revere this man. Some of them in this thread.

I already shared it few posts above http://www.pakpassion.net/ppforum/s...slim-bashing-in-India&p=10738541#post10738541

It was initially a BJP member that fell for it and made the fake news viral with the intention of hating on deshdrohi seculars.

The Skin doctor character has been spreading many fake news so it's only ironic that now after embarrassing a BJP member some action is being taken against him.

Well I feel the opposite with both Islam and Christianity where the non believers are condemned to hellfire & hell on day of judgement. You can be a perfectly good human being who do not know or heard anything about Islam or Christianity however that person will be condemned since he/she was a non believer come judgement day (such arrogance and ignorance).

This has always been my problem with Abhrahamic faiths, that belief system needs to convert whoever they can, Christianity has evolved however Islam is still stuck in the stone ages when it comes to this. The Abhrahamic belief system to me lacks spirituality and is more authoritarian, which is why I could never follow these faiths.

Indian Hindu extremists who are misguided and support the violent hate crimes against misguided youth as part of the Hindutva movement always have the same excuse when called out for it instead of at least condemning the brutalities.

In the picture, "Suresh Tewari," an Indian official and politician from the state of (Uttar Pradesh), said frankly to people: Put one thing in your mind, do not buy vegetables from Muslims.

This is after allegations that Muslims want to spread the virus to kill non-Muslims.

Read the first sentence of the second paragraph. Fourth word.

So is the idea of India as a nation one with fluid borders? Because of course many parts of India now lie in Pakistan, such as Punjab, Sindh, Kashmir, etc. What defines the Hindu nation in this case?

Well, the good news is you don't have to. There are any amount of alternative faiths you can choose if you wish, including atheism if that suits you better. No one is holding a sword over your neck to recite the kalimah.

Except Kashmir, I consider ( as a hindutva follower) Pakistan's Punjab and Sindh as a part of Hindustan, but have to live with the severing of the body and maintain whatever is left. Your mileage may vary depending on which hindutva follower you raise this question to.

But you wrote that I wrote that muslims are hindus for hindus. Now read the part you bolded and see I am talking about Hindutva, an ideology and not hindus, a community. I used "It", not "they". Thought it would be obvious, but you don't have a firm grasp on the obvious too.

Comprendre?

Facts dont care about your feelings. The Quran is unambiguous about this stuff. Islam doesnt convert, it invites. If some nutjob rulers have gone against its teachings thats a human fault not that of the religion.

The Quran is not racist and is clear about what it defines as good and bad.

Romali_rotti

frankly your comment about about Islam being stuck in the stone ages is wrong and offensive. You should back up your claims instead of making broad brush populist statements that do not have any real intellectual backing to them. Your feelings about things or anecdotes do not count.

The Quran is not racist and is clear about what it defines as good and bad.

One question:

Is there any truth that the non believers of Islam will receive Hell fire on day of judgement ? be it people of other Abhrahamic faiths or other beliefs .

In the past couple of weeks, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Kuwait government, a royal princess of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as well as a number of Arab activists have called out Islamophobic hate speech by Indians seen to be accusing the country's Muslims of spreading the novel coronavirus.

A barrage of tweets and statements from individuals and institutions in the Gulf expressing their outrage over the hateful social media posts forced the Indian government to respond, including a Twitter post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which he stressed that "COVID-19 does not see race [or] religion".

It started with right-wing Hindus accusing Muslims of a "conspiracy" to spread the coronavirus after dozens of cases were linked to a congregation of Tablighi Jamaat, a Muslim missionary movement, at their headquarters in New Delhi in the middle of March.

Hashtags such as #CoronaJihad trended for days on Twitter and panellists in TV debates called them "human bombs", while many called for a ban on Jamaat. Its New Delhi office has been sealed.

We call on international organizations, especially the United Nations, the Security Council, the Organization of islamic cooperation and all human rights organizations, to intervene immediately to stop the violations committed against our Muslim brothers in India #India

Arabs flag hateful posts

Following the Jamaat issue, a wave of Islamophobic posts was unleashed on social media by right-wing Hindus, some of them employed in Gulf countries.

Dubai-based Indian, Saurabh Upadhyay, asked Muslims to "accept they were the source of the pandemic" and called for the death of Jamaat members, describing them as "terrorists". He deleted his tweets after social media users in the Gulf and India called him out.

An old tweet by Tejasvi Surya, a young member of parliament belonging to Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), also resurfaced, provoking further outrage.

In his 2015 post, Surya had quoted a Canadian-Pakistani writer as claiming that "95 percent of Arab women have never had an orgasm in the last few hundred years".

Such Islamophobic comments are particularly hurtful when originating from individuals who have lived and worked in the Gulf.
SULTAN BARAKAT, DOHA INSTITUTE

"The level of hubris of the Hindutva fascists shocked people throughout the world, changing previously held opinions," Dr Farhan Mujahid Chak, who teaches political science in the Gulf Studies programme at Qatar University, told Al Jazeera.

Princess Hend al-Qassimi, a member of the UAE royal family, warned "openly racist and discriminatory" Indians in the Gulf that they "will be fined and made to leave" the country.

In the past month, at least six Hindus working in the Gulf region have lost their jobs or have been charged for their social media posts.

About 8.5 million Indians live and work in Gulf countries, a significant number of them Hindus.

India's trading relations with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states - Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE - has transformed considerably over the years, with the bilateral trade volume surpassing the $100b mark.

"Every year, more than $55bn are transferred to India from the Gulf countries, and more than 120 billion annually from all Muslim countries. Indians (mostly Hindus) are treated well in these countries," Kuwait-based activist Abdur Rahman Nassar tweeted.

"In return, how are Muslims treated in India?" he asked.

Another Kuwait national, lawyer and director of International Human Rights group, Mejbel al-Sharika, tweeted that he will "adopt the cause of Muslims in India" at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva "for free".

On Monday, in what was a clear sign of the issue escalating in the Arab world, Kuwait expressed its "deep concern" over the treatment of India's Muslims and asked the Organisation of International Cooperation (OIC) to intervene.

"Did those who commit crimes against humanity against Muslims in India and violate their rights think that Muslims in the world will remain silent about these crimes and do not move politically, legally and economically against them?" a statement by the general secretariat of the Kuwait Council of Ministers said.

Earlier, on April 18, the OIC had issued a statement, urging India to take urgent steps to "stop the growing tide of Islamophobia" in the country.

A day after the OIC statement, Modi tweeted: "COVID-19 does not see race, religion, colour, caste, creed, language or borders before striking. Our response and conduct thereafter should attach primacy to unity and brotherhood. We are in this together."

In the week after Modi's call for communal harmony, at least three Indian embassies in the Gulf region - Qatar, the UAE and Oman - tweeted about the shared values of "tolerance" and "pluralism" between India and the Arab world.

Princess al-Qassimi, who has emerged as one of the most prolific Arab voices against Islamophobia in India, last week wrote a column for the Gulf News, in which she said: "The world doesn't need another Hitler, but it needs another hero like Martin Luther, Nelson Mandela, or Gandhi."

"Killing your brethren doesn't make you a hero, it makes you a dictator and murderer. A snowballing movement has been started, which has reverberated across the Arab world," she wrote in her piece, titled I pray for an India without hate and Islamophobia.

On Sunday, Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the far-right Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), in an apparent reference to the Jamaat congregation in New Delhi, said in an online speech from the group's headquarters in Nagpur that it was "not right to blame the entire community for the mistakes of few individuals". The RSS is the ideological mentor of Modi's BJP.

Sultan Barakat, director of the Centre for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies at Qatar's Doha Institute, told Al Jazeera that people in the Gulf countries "felt outraged" over the way Indian Muslims were being blamed for the coronavirus pandemic.

"Such stupid assertions angered people here, not only because it is Islamophobic but more importantly, because it is counterproductive to a global pandemic that is blind to religion and recognises no borders," he said.

"Millions of Indians have been living in Arab countries for decades with hardly any discrimination against Indians - Hindu, Muslim or any other. Such Islamophobic comments are particularly hurtful when originating from individuals who have lived and worked in the Gulf."

India's former ambassador to the UAE, Talmiz Ahmed, called the Indians who posted comments against the Arabs and Muslims in India "extremely foolish individuals with very limited knowledge of politics or international affairs".

However, BJP spokesman GVL Narasimha Rao told Al Jazeera the issue will not have a negative effect on India's relationship with the Arab countries. "Because it is part of a propaganda and not real," he told Al Jazeera. "This is part of anti-India and anti-Hindu propaganda by inimical elements."

Rao's optimism appeared to be shortlived.

On Tuesday, in its worst rating since 2004, the US Commission on International Religious Freedom urged the State Department to designate India as a "country of particular concern" over "severe violations" of religious freedom.

Although India rejected the US report, calling it "biased", it will be hard for the country's Hindu nationalist government to ignore a growing global concern over the targeting of India's Muslims.

This is because Kuwait and UAE countries are mature enough to realise that Hindutva trolls don't represent all of India. They are quite capable of sifting the garbage and kicking them to the kerb, while still keeping an open mind on Indians who are happy to provide their services without prejudice.

These are all tweets made roughly with the last 24 hours. Note none of the tweets I have shared so far have been turned out to be from fake accounts. Unlike many BJP politicians I like to double check and refrain from sharing fake stories in an attempt to spread hate.

Since cricketjoshila has been missing them, the latest tweets by Arab activists to remind the world that the unchecked violent crimes by misguided kattar Hindu fanatics, who are acting against the true ideology of Hindutva, as pointed out by CricketCartoons, needs to be paid attention to.

First of all good news: BJP IT activists tried to censor the Arab Twitter handle alnassar_kw for exposing the horrific crimes of misguided hindutva fanatics and had his account suspended, however he is back and Twitter reopened his account.

Thanks to God Almighty, my account is back ..

And I thank everyone who asked about me, invited me, or demanded to return my account.

And to the Indian extremist parties know that the account is just an account and if you think you can silence us then you are wrong ..

God willing, we will continue to expose your crimes against humanity ..

And the whole free world will see with your true faces soon

These are all tweets made roughly with the last 24 hours. Note none of the tweets I have shared so far have been turned out to be from fake accounts. Unlike many BJP politicians I like to double check and refrain from sharing fake stories in an attempt to spread hate.

Lol. You are being desperate.

Uae and Kuwait govts, the rulers are asking India for help. While you post tweets by run of the mill lawyers activists etc.

No govt is going to interfere in what India does inside its own territory. Thats the long and short of it.

No, you are the one who is repeatedly misrepresenting my take on this.

On this thread I have made it clear multiple times from the beginning that I don't expect much from the Arab leaders themselves. I am not using these tweets as a proof that somehow tomorrow Kashmir will see freedom and all the Arab leaders will unite to sanction India. Hence you won't find me holding my breath for them to announce drastic measures against India anytime soon.

For me the main point is that the awareness about the ugly side of BJP and RSS, of the people outside south Asia, is increasing. For you it might be nothing of importance but I welcome the fact that more people see the real face of today's India and the false image of today's India around the globe due to history of Gandhi ji and Bollywood is slowly being questioned. The image of a peaceful non-violent Hindu who is a vegetarian and won't harm a fly is outdated but unfortunately widely spread outside South Asia. About time it gets scrutinized and questioned.

These Twitter accounts have been active on Twitter since 2011 or 2015. They haven't tweeted a single thing about India or Kashmir before April 2020. This is the first time they have started to speak about it and are doing so on a daily basis. The recent villifing of the Indian Muslim community as a whole due to the actions of some and the trolls of Hindutva groups on social media have caused the people outside south Asia to take notice. It would have been another thing if it was the norm for any Arab activist to speak about the growing violent Hindu extremism or utter anything about Kashmir.

This coupled with USCIRF's recent report on India shows that the global awareness is increasing.

No doubt, India is in a strong position in the region due to its strength in IT and medical services. However that doesn't mean that the world should turn a blind eye on the drastic increase of violent extremism within its society, with some reports that the ruling party itself is intentionally inciting such actions. Therefore, the least someone can do is point out such things and not keep silent. I am glad activists outside South Asia have started to speak up.

RSS chief had to publicly make a statement recently and say let's not blame a whole community, they are our brothers and sons of the soil. I don't think that was a random statement or the usual business talk by the RSS chief. For me it is likely to be a reaction to the increased international heat.

You are the one who is actually desperate to reassure that everything is fine and as usual and that the increased international attention on the ugly side of BJP and RSS is nothing out of the ordinary, when in fact it is. You are the one who wants to believe that a certain limit of villifing Indian Muslims hasn't been crossed leading to an increase in international awareness of what's going on in India. You are the one who sarcastically said to me that I have moved from Arabs to NGOs for posting an article from Human rights watch, in a desperate attempt to ridicule me. You wanted to see these Arab tweets.

There may or may not come anything out of this, for now I am happy to see more voices speaking up and the topic of this thread is the growing increase of such voices in the gulf region.

So your concern is about the fact that 'run of the mill lawyers' are posting stuff - does the message they are putting out not bother you?

It's funny how the narrative changed. First it was fake ISI run accounts, then some little known Arabs to finally admitting the tweets are from Arab lawyers and activists and not from some shawarma selling habibi.

Joshila bhai can become the best goalkeeper in the world. Not even Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi can score a goal from a penalty against him. How? Because joshila bhai is good at shifting the goalposts. :inti

His narrative remains the same and is true actually: the tweets are from people who don't matter.

Delhi Police have booked Delhi Minorities Commission chairman Zafarul Islam Khan for sedition over “provocative remarks” on social media.

According to the police, the FIR was filed on Thursday following a complaint from a Vasant Kunj resident, who alleged that the statements made by Khan were “deliberate” and “seditious”.

The FIR has been registered under sections 124 A (sedition) and 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth etc) of the Indian Penal Code.

This is because no matter how much pakistanis wish and post twitter handles of unknown arabs, those countries are not interested in interfering in any internal affairs of India, neither are they capable of doing so.

Those living in these countries have to follow their laws.

Who made you a spokesman for UAE countries? Do you have a hotline to the important people in those countries that you know their opinions?

Three more Indians in UAE face action over Islamophobic social media posts

Dubai: It seems that the warnings of the Indian mission have fallen on deaf ears as the list of Indian expats facing action over vile Islamophobic remarks on social media keeps getting longer.

Over the weekend, at least three more have been fired or suspended after their offensive posts were brought to the attention of employers by social media users.

The men now join nearly half a dozen hate-mongers who have similarly landed in trouble in recent weeks.

The latest addition to the growing list include Italian chef Rawat Rohit, storekeeper Sachin Kinnigoli and a cash custodian whose name has been withheld by his firm.

Gulf News is refraining from publishing the posts or going into the details of their offensive content.

A spokesperson for Azadea Group that operates Eataly, a chain of high-end Italian restaurants in Dubai, confirmed that Rawat Rohit who was employed with them as a chef has been suspended and is facing a disciplinary probe.

Sharjah-based Pneumics Automation have also said they suspended their storekeeper Sachin Kinnigoli until further notice.

“We have withheld his salary and told him not to come to work. The matter is under investigation. We have a zero tolerance policy. Anyone found guilty of insulting or showing contempt for someone’s religion will have to bear the consequences,” said the firm’s owner.

Similarly, Dubai-based Transguard Group said they have cracked down on an employee who had posted several anti-Islamic messages on his Facebook page under the name of Vishal Thakur.

“Following an internal investigation, the actual identify of this employee was verified and he was stripped of his security credentials, terminated from our employment and handed over to the relevant authorities as per company policy and UAE Cybercrime Law No. 5 of 2012. As of this statement, he is in the custody of Dubai Police,” a Transguard spokesperson said in a statement to Gulf News.

Transguard said their long-standing social media policy complies UAE’s stringent cybercrime regulations.

“It is enforced through regular monitoring, evaluation and, if necessary, disciplinary action, including fines, termination and deportation, as per federal law,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also clarified that an individual reportedly posting hateful comments under the name of Prakash Kumar doesn’t work with them. “Twitter user Prakash Kumar” has falsely claimed that he works for Transguard. As mentioned multiple times, we have handed the matter to the authorities and since this individual is not a Transguard employee we have no further comment on the matter,” the spokesperson added.

Warnings fall on deaf ears

The new sackings and suspensions come days after both the former and current Indian Ambassadors to the UAE cautioned their countrymen about the UAE’s strict hate speech laws. Similar warnings were issued by missions in other GCC countries.

Of late, there has been an alarming increase in the number of highly offensive, Islamophobic posts by some Indians living in Gulf countries. Several of these people have lost their jobs while others have swiftly taken down their posts or deactivated their accounts after being called out by other social media users.

Many have tagged the employers of such people in their complaints, who in turn have taken swift punitive action.

The issue also gained prominence after some GCC citizens on Twitter entered the debate, and raised their voice against the spread of bigotry online.

Much of the vitriol can be traced to an atmosphere of blind hate against Muslims who have been blamed for the spread of COVID-19 in India.

Strict laws

The UAE outlaws all religious or racial discrimination under a legislation passed in 2015.

The anti-discrimination/anti-hatred law prohibits all acts “that stoke religious hatred and/or which insult religion through any form of expression, be it speech or the written word, books, pamphlets or via online media.”

The legislation mainly aims to fight “discrimination against individuals or groups based on religion, caste, doctrine, race, color or ethnic origin.”

Post at your own peril

Here is the list of some other Indian expats who have landed in trouble for their social media posts:

April 18: Prominent Sharjah-based Keratlite businessman and filmmaker Sohan Roy is forced to apologise for a video which depicted Islamic clerics leading blindfolded men in skull caps in an adaptation of his poem on religious bigotry.

April 6-15: Technician Rakesh B. Kitturmath, chief accountant Bala Krishna Nakka and finance analyst Mitesh Udeshi are fired for derogatory social media posts that violated the UAE law while a police complaint is filed against Sameer Bhandari, CEO of Future Vision Events & Weddings’ after he asked an Indian Muslim job seeker to “Go back to Pakistan” in text message

March 2020: Indian chef Trilok Singh who worked at a restaurant in Dubai is fired for making an online threat to rape Delhi-based law student Swati Khanna over her views on the controversial Citizen Amendment Act.

January 2020: Indian expat Jayant Gokhale draws flak for asking Keralite job seeker Abdulla SS to joining protestors in Shaheen Bagh in New Delhi.

March 2019: Indian safety and security officer at Transguard Group in Dubai is sacked and deported for posting a comment on Facebook celebrating the terror attacks on New Zealand mosques.

June 2018: Rigging supervisor at an Abu Dhabi firm is fired for threatening to kill Kerala chief minister in a facebook video.

June: 2018 JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in Dubai terminates contract with Michelin-starred chef Atul Kochhar after he puts up a post on twitter saying that followers of Islam had “terrorised” Hindus for 2,000 years.

April 2017: 33-year-old Indian is sacked for sending offensive Facebook messages to Indian journalist Rana Ayyub.

Heard about mass deportations of Indians from all Gulf countries. Serves them right. Hope other countries in the region like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka etc. can fill the gap.

Why do they go to a country where they hate the main religion present? Makes no sense to me.

Because they are hypocrites and love to bite the hand that feeds them.

They hate muslims and especially Pakistan but still come here and post.

You don't have to go too far. They hate muslims and especially Pakistan but still come here and post.

Sad thing is these people go abroad to improve their family lives by earning money but end up being deported for such bigoted views. Their families must be angry I assume.

I dont need to learn about my country from foreigners. I live in an Indian state with close to 30% muslim population.

Couple of days back a police contingent went to enforce lockdown at a place close to Kolkata. A muslim majority area, they were attacked abd stones pelted on them. Later a huge police battalion had to go and enforce the lockdown. Now if surrounding areas stop communication with that area, you cannot blame the other people.

OTOH when i went to buy biryani at a plave i have been going for 25 years and my father before me, i asked the owner if i could sneak in and sit and eat. He was " Beta gaari mein bhej deta hoon, ya to upar chal ke mere ghar pe baith lo, par dukaan par mat khao, ain hai, sabko manna hai. Guess what thats a muslim majority area too and the entire area is lined with shops of mughlai food owned by muslims. And almost all were following social distancing laws.

All major mosques in Kolkata are closed. The shahi imam in his address asked people to pray at home.

But if a section of them do not obey the law and think they are above it, then they will have legal and social implications.

I am not going to explain myself on Kashmir and have done it a million times.

Hindu muslim clashes have happened in India since a long time, before and after independence. Ofcourse hardly anyone talks about the hindu side here because posters here are concerned about Muslims and there is an obvious and expected bias.

The entire restaurant was empty, there is a cordoned off area inside the restaurant where even during normal days they seat their friends etc and so i asked if i could use that area. And the owners are our family friends. I ultimately went up to his house built above the restaurant and ate there.

I didnot break any laws.

Of course they are not interested in twitter handles, don't you think at govt level they don't have better things to do? This will be taken up at lower levels by journalists and activists and as awareness of Hindutva hostility becomes more widespread in UAE countries, you will see a hardening of attitudes towards India.

This is only natural, but we are not at that stage yet.

Your view is based on some twitter handles in arab countries? Lol.

Your view is based on some twitter handles in arab countries? Lol.

Yes, I recognize my limited ressources to gain insight about what's happening in India. By avoiding listening to Zaid Hamid types and most of Pakistani media I already feel that I have avoided big chunk of propoganda sources.

Note regarding those Arab Twitter handles: none have a single tweet on violence in India or Kashmir before April 2020 while they have been active on Twitter since 2011/2015 and have 50k+ tweets.

Some video clips of lynching and mob violence with chants of jai shri ram seem to be genuine while others don't. Besides Arab activists, in recent days, US commissions for religious freedom and Human rights watch have come out to express their concerns over the drastic increase in violence in India based on communal divide with at parts support of the BJP members.

I have also observed how the Indian Media has used coronavirus to further malign the Muslim population and vilify the whole community. From the first day when Nizamuddin markaz was exposed for not following the safety guidelines, "Corona Jihad" was used to spread fear and antagonize the population. Many BJP members have been caught supporting and spreading fake news which were designed to spread hate and anger towards Muslims. None so far have admitted their false reporting nor made an effort to mend fences.

RSS chief had to speak up and say let's work together at this crucial time and not single out a community because of actions of a few which in itself is a big evidence that the media campaign was successful in spreading division and the situation has been blown out of proportion.

One only has to read comments made by Indians under Modi's tweet on Ramadan to see how polarized the Indian society has become. Even such a casual greeting by the PM isn't accepted by a large number of the followers and one can't help but wonder where all of this headed towards.

When the notorious Indian Twitter handle "The Skin Doctor" run by an ex Army major was spreading fake news about Muslims and inciting hatred it was all ok. However when one of his fake news, which was actually to his defense clearly marked by him as satire, was shared by a popular Twitter handle of a BJP member as real news and the BJP guy gets exposed for it, "The Skin Doctor" see himself facing a lawsuit. Which shows that some action can be taken against fake news but is chosen not to.

There is also Indian media sources like Quint who have years ago reported on increasing numbers of Gau Rakshak Dal and their role in normalizing mob violence and lynching.

When 3 innocent Sadhu in saffron colors can be lynched by a Hindu mob in the presence of police officer based on a whatsapp rumor than it isn't hard to imagine that things have gotten out of hand. And such incidents lend credibility to those graphic clips shared on social media which are supposed to show violence against minoirtes.

Now, this is an open discussion and you are more than welcome to show us the alternative view of tolerance and people of different communities cooperating together in such a crisis situation. There is no ban on showing examples of BJP members who instead of spreading fake news to polarize the society, are working on bringing people together as advice by Modi ji and RSS chief.

The incident you mentioned of people from "Muslim dominant area" not cooperating with the authorites to respect the lockdown is to be condemned and what the people did was wrong. No doubt about it and people who value their health should keep their distance from them for time being.

However the question is whether those people were resistant because of their ignorance or because of their religious identity. The question is how can one tell that they had deliberate intention of spreading the virus among their community and to do Corona jihad against Hindus? This question is of importance because this is how the Indian media has painted such incidents from day one.

Stop Indian media from exporting hate to Gulf

The UAE Federal Public Prosecution last week issued a warning against discrimination and reminded people that offenders face tough fines and jail sentence.

The UAE’s Combating Discrimination and Hatred law says: “Any person, who commits any act of discrimination of any form by any means of expression or by any other means, shall be sentenced to imprisonment for a period not less than five years, and by a fine not less than Dh500,000 and not exceeding Dh1 million or either one of these two penalties”.

Last month, an Emirati journalist was detained for racist comments in a video posted on social media.

The warning also comes after scores of Indian expatriates were called out for abusing Islam, the Holy Prophet, Islamic culture and Muslims.

Gulf News has been publishing incidents involving expats who were terminated by employers after they posted abusive content on social media. Many Indian expats who were called out for hatred and religious discrimination were long term residents of the UAE.

Prominent Arab personalities based in the UAE and other Gulf countries have also raised concerns about growing Islamophobia among the expats. Indian embassies in the UAE, Oman and Qatar have issued warnings on social media conduct, reminding Indians about tough anti-discrimination laws.

But the bigger question is why long-term residents who are familiar with local laws and sensitivities are posting such abusive content on social media? The culprit is Indian media, specifically some news channels which are exporting the narrative of hate against Muslims from India to the Gulf countries.

It is well known that some popular channels twist news and build fake narratives to target Muslims in India. For example, media watchdogs have pointed out fake news of Muslims spitting on fruits to spread Coronavirus.

This fake news was repeated on some news channels until people actually started believing it. Now, in several parts of India, Muslim vendors are boycotted and banned from entering neighbourhoods. This hateful content on prime time reaches Gulf countries, including the UAE where these channels are widely available.

Hate propagated on live TV has a powerful impact especially when it comes from popular anchors. Authorities in the Gulf must take action against these channels, the preachers of hate, including Republic TV, Zee News, India TV, Aaj Tak, ABP and Times Now.

They must not be allowed to vitiate the social atmosphere of Gulf countries where tens of millions of diverse ethnicities and religious background work and live peacefully.

Gulf countries are well within their rights to punish any Indian living in their country who is breaking their laws.
They are also well within their rights to ban any Indian news channels from gulf TV broadcasts.

Whether, the gulf governments actually cares enough to take these measures or is this just few gulf activists pointing it out is a separate story.

At the same time they have no right to tell what will happen within India and India too is within its rights to ban any gulf media from reporting in India and stop anyone from reporting for any gulf media channel from India.

Thing is that the govt is hardly interested in souring relations with India. So unless someone is breaking laws in these countries, nothing will happen.

And Maxhar Farooqui cant change that.

Maybe that's why the Indian government quietly censured Tejasvi Surya whose name cropped up during the initial outrage. One of his tweets linking Islam and terror has been removed from Twitter following a request by the Indian government.

Ravi Hooda, a real estate agent based in Ontario, was angered by Brampton mayor Patrick Brown’s tweet over exemptions given in the city’s noise bylaws to allow azaan (call to prayer).

“What’s next? Separate lanes for camel & goat riders, allowing the slaughter of animals at home in the name of sacrifice, bylaw requiring all women to cover themselves from head to toe in tents to appease the piece fools for votes,” he tweeted in reply.

It was lost on the Islamophobe that the exemption was earlier limited to church bells and was now being extended to all faiths. Perhaps, he also forgot that he was in Canada, and not in India, where such remarks draw thousands of likes and retweets. But he soon learnt his lesson.

Hooda, who later deleted his tweet, was called out by several Twitter users, including Canada’s Anti-Hate Network, for his vile comments. The real estate company he was associated with terminated his services. He has also been removed as the School Council Chair by the Macville Public School.

Sure we are well withing our rights as well. If any foregin national comes to India and spreads venom against Hindus on social media, Indian government and agencies are well within their rights to punish him as per law or deport him.

The above doesn't change the fact that Gulf cou tries are well within their rights to punish the people living over there who are spreading hatred on social media against their major religion.

Islamophobic posts cost another Indian his job in the UAE

Ras Al Khaimah: An employee of a mining firm in Ras Al Khaimah has become the latest in a long line of UAE-based Indian expats to have lost their job because of Islamophobic social media posts.

Brajkishore Gupta was fired without notice for calling Indian Muslims coronavirus spreaders and hailing Delhi riots as divine justice in his Facebook posts.

Over 50 people, mostly Muslims, were killed in the ensuing violence which rocked the walled city in February of this year.

Originally from Chapra, in the Indian state of Bihar, Gupta was employed by Stevin Rock, a mining company headquartered in Ras Al Khaimah.

“This isolated incident involving a junior employee was investigated and dealt with immediately resulting in the termination without notice of this person’s employment with Stevin Rock,” the company’s business development and exploration manager Jean-François Milian said in an email to Gulf News on Sunday.

“Our company policy supports the direction of the UAE Government in promoting tolerance and equality and strongly renouncing racism and discrimination and we have sent communications to all of our employees irrespective of their religious or ethnic background reminding them that any such behaviour is unacceptable and will lead to immediate dismissal,” said Milian.

Both the former and current Indian Ambassadors to the UAE have warned their countrymen about the consequences of violating the UAE’s strict hate speech laws. Similar warnings have been issued by missions in other GCC countries but they appear to have fallen on deaf ears.

Of late, several Indians have lost jobs and faced legal action for their offensive posts after being called out by other social media users.

In May alone at least three such hate mongers were fired or suspended in the UAE after many tagged their employers in their complaints, who in turn took swift punitive action.

I saw in another thread about India flourishing, how the OP was using Indian presence on social media as some sort of indicator of their progress. I can't really say I agree with him, people who have time to spend on trolling using facebook or twitter are hardly some signifier of tech might.

I have said previously if some Hindu extremists made anti religious remarks in a foreign country then they deserve to get the full brunt of backlash for being stupid. You are confused, I speak the way I see it, most of the matters I have spoken on India are matters related to the happenings in India, so maybe think a little through before speaking towards me, rather than summoning your inner Rahul Gandhi :cobra: ... I don't give a damn what Indians outside of India are doing, if they act foolish, well good for them, they can suffer the consequences, not a care in the world  .

Another thing is there much validity in this thread now that majority of the Indians are coming back to India due to the Chinese Virus ?... How oh How will those supposed 'Arabs' now punish those evil Indians on Kashmir if there are hardly any Indians left in the Gulf..

Kerala i think will be on its knees with little to no money coming from the Gulf :(. Oh noo.

India by far is the largest troll population in the world, this is a fact and it needs to be accepted by all. Taking actions on people for spreading hate through social media is a good initiative, but the reality is they would send 500 or so back home which is a drop in the ocean of trolls.

To have a real impact on the trolls there needs to be stringent checks and restrictions passed by law on social media usage. There are 2 ways to control social media trolls.

1. Revamp social media whereby each account is linked to a personal identification number. Further, pass laws whereby spread of fake news can lead to charges ending up in fines or in worst cases detention.
If this does happen then any anonymous warrior will no longer remain anonymous and hence wont have the balls to continue his troll war. This action will silence the trolls and essentially crack on fake news.

2. Restrict social media.
This is unlikely to happen as social media is such a powerful tool that it gives so much leverage to rich people such as mass advertising, etc. The rich people would not want to give this leverage away so this change is unlikely to come about.

Given today's world I doubt any action would come about but given the rapid spread of negativity in the world we are just one war away for things to start going back to normal and laws being put in place.

UAE, Saudi too support India in OIC against allegation of rising Islamophobia

Maldives initiated move to oppose Pak's rant against India at the recent Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) meet in UN had other backers from within the body signalling India’s growing stature in the Islamic World.

ET has learnt that Saudi Arabia and UAE (once traditional Pak allies) backed the stand taken by Maldives signifying expanding ties between Delhi and Riyadh and Abu Dhabi respectively. Oman, India's oldest strategic partner in the Gulf region, is believed to have stated at the meet that the discourse is part of India’s internal affairs, according to informed sources.

Intersting. I thought anger was growing in gulf countries against India.

Kuch bann nii raha. Our Hindutva friends like Rajdeep, Rotti and Joshila need to do a lot better as they have failed to explain the avalanche of evidence about popular opinion in the Gulf about India turning extremely negative. If any of you work in the ME better start looking behind your backs.

The indian economy is going well. Post covid era we expect to be a dominant player in the world economics.
We are not as good as we wish to be but we are making excellent strides economically.
The employment situation will improve with time.
We don't deny the troubles but atleast we are moving in the right direction.

Its a realistic assessment if you can your green shades off.
A relatively young demographic is going to ensure sound economic future for a number of decades to come.
Its a widely accepted view.
Across the world.
The economic future of my country is undeniably bright.
