ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Malaysia Dr Mahathir Mohamad will visit Pakistan on March 21-23 on the invitation of Prime Minister Imran Khan. The Malaysian Prime Minister will be accompanied by a high-level delegation including several leading businessmen.

During his stay in Islamabad, the Malaysian premier would be the Guest of Honour at the Pakistan Day Parade on March 23.

Mahathir’s bilateral engagements include call on the President of Pakistan, one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan followed by delegation-level talks.

The two prime ministers will also speak at the round table meeting of the CEOs of Industries, who desire to invest in automobile and telecommunication sectors of Pakistan.

Mahathir’s visit would further cement the existing brotherly and friendly relations between the two countries. The focus of the interest is on enhancing economic, trade, investment, and defence ties, for the mutual benefit of the peoples of the two countries.

PM Imran led a delegation to Kuala Lumpur in November last year, during which the two sides agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in trade, privatisation, foreign direct investment, food, and tourism.

Mahathir Mohamad is the man who actually inspired Imran Khan.

Mahathir is a very good leader. He genuinely loves and cares for Pakistan.

Now that one of the Imran's heroes has stepped foot on Pakistan's soil, we must encourage India to increase efforts of isolation of Pakistan - This has been very auspicious to us.

He's a great man, to come back at 95 to unseat a corrupt man takes some doing. Totally changed the course of Malaysian History. Not surprised Imran Khan is a huge fan

The best part about Khan's government is that every foreign visit or visit of a foreign statesman has focused on economy and development. Previously it only used to focus on saving Nawaz's and Zardari's offshore holdings.

PM Khan appreciates Mahathir's stance on issues affecting Muslims

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday at a joint press conference with Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad appreciated the Malaysian premier for taking a stand for Muslims in the aftermath of the New Zealand terror attacks at two mosques that killed at least 50 people, including nine Pakistanis.

"We also admire you for your stand against corruption," the prime minister told Mohamad.

The premier said that all Muslims across the world are blamed for any crime committed by any Muslim. He held Islamophobia responsible for the New Zealand terror attacks.

The Malaysian premier said that the two countries can "exchange information on how to combat corruption in our countries".

Talking about the Muslim bloc he regretted that here was not a single Muslim country that can be considered as developed. He said that Malaysia had planned to become developed by 2030 but unfortunately due to changes in the government it became a target impossible to achieve.

Mohamad, while talking about the bilateral relations, said he believed that increased trade between the two countries will enhance the bilateral relationship.

"We need to identify what you can sell to us and what we can sell to you," he said.

Earlier, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad was given a welcome reception at Prime Minister House in Islamabad in the morning. The premier arrived in Pakistan yesterday on a three-day visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

As the welcome reception kicked off, the national anthems of both countries were played and the visiting dignitary was given a Guard of Honour by a contingent of the armed forces.

He is expected to hold a meeting with President Arif Alvi and a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Khan, followed by delegation-level talks today.

The two prime ministers are scheduled to speak at the roundtable meeting of the chief executive officers, who desire to invest in Pakistan’s automobile and telecommunication sectors.

The Pak-Malaysia Business Leaders’ Roundtable Conference will be held this afternoon, while an investiture ceremony is to be held at Aiwan-i-Sadr this evening. The Malaysian prime minister will be awarded a Nishan-i-Pakistan, the highest civil honour in the country.

A banquet will be held in his honour following the ceremony.

Tomorrow, Mahathir will be the chief guest at the Pakistan Day parade.

$900m deals to be signed
Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering $800-$900 million worth of investments with Malaysian investors will be signed today, covering deals in IT, telecom, power generation, textile, agriculture, and halal food industries. More than 25 heads of top Malaysian companies are accompanying the Malaysian prime minister.

Board of Investment Chairman Haroon Sharif said yesterday that joint venture agreements would be signed in the telecom, auto and halal food sectors, adding that after the prime minister's visit to Malaysia, business-to-business partnership was moving ahead and now is the time to consolidate it.

The visit of Malaysian investors is a signal of a major shift in the present government’s policy to expand economic and trade relations with other countries.

PM’s Adviser on Investment Razak Dawood said yesterday that the advantage of having trade and investment ties with Malaysia would be to enter markets of East Asian countries since Malaysia's inroad to Asean is much better. Dawood explained that Malaysian investors are long-term players and would like to see a good market share for their country in the region.

Malaysia offers an opportunity for Pakistan to open up the Asean market for trade and investment through strategic partnerships. Asean is a market of estimated 651 million people, with an estimated GDP of $3 trillion and high human development index.

Pakistan is gearing up to tap into one of the largest commercial hubs of the world – Asean, which has goods trade volume of around $2.6 trillion, services of volume of around $703 billion and $136 billion in foreign direct investment.

Mahatir, the hero of our PM, told us exactly what is wrong with us but only if we listen to him.

He stated that Malaysia is a trading country with no enemies. Furthermore, he also asserted that they are not bothered about the internal issues of other countries, and neither are they concerned with the conflicts of other countries.

That is what we need to do - we need to make ourselves a trading nation. Unfortunately, we refuse to learn.

We have turned Pakistan Day into a military parade. We conveniently forget that the ‘40 Resolution was drafted by an Ahmadi and tabled by a Bengali.

Bro i know but what option do we have? we have many enemies on our back probably we are the only country to have more enemies than friends .Defence comes first and the corrupt political mafias who were responsible for the betterment of people have instead wasted the nations money on personal businesses and undue personal benefits we need to apply the china or saudi model and retrieve every single looted money from these mafias and spend them on the betterment of our people and i believe that imran khan with the help of establishment will be able to achieve this InshAllah.

WE always overdoes it I reckon. Its some time 14th Aug somtimes 6th sep I dont know how many .

This is not overdoing, if you've ever stepped out of Pakistan you'll notice that parades tend to be extravagant, especially military parades. I swear y'all are always complaining.

It only happens on 23rd March. Every nation has a parade day and there is nothing wrong in celebrating with your armed forces who are giving their lives for this country. Please don't let the propaganda mislead you doctor sahab, this is your Army-Navy-Airforce. I cannot believe people have issues with our military parade.

Not at all but its the sufferings of the people which makes me sad.I am just saying it what my heart says that health of our people is equally important.

Apologies,Personally I am living a comfortable life But sometimes I feel we need to do more for our people.

Health of our people is the most important thing. But Pakistan day celebrations and military parades are not a hindrance to health reforms in any way.

This will probably be the most successful Pakistan day because it ties in with the potential sale of JF-17 Fighter jets.

It's celebrating Pak Excellence, literally whilst the iron is still hot. Seeing Dr Mahatir leave with a PAF jacket is a seering image.

I believe it is quite a shame that Pakistan Day has become an event to flaunt the strength of our armed forces. Perhaps the theatrics should be reserved for Sept 6, i.e. Defence Day.

Pakistan Day should be about celebrating our culture and our diversity. After all, that is the identity of Pakistan. Not our armed forces.

No need to use the word ‘shame’.

I know Pakistan has been doing rather well on world arena off late and this hurts many.

If you know a bit of history, on Pakistan day the parade by the armed forces is often part of the celebrations.

I am not sure and I dont really care how other countries celebrate their republic days, Pakistan is all about defense and considering the recent scheme of events and Malaysian supremo visit and the potential trade of our weapons to Malaysia, it is very much beffiting that we showed our full strength.

All country have a national/republic day, but very few - if any - countries have a defence day, a day solely dedicated to its armed forces.

Pakistan happens to be one of those rare countries, and I believe that major theatrics and flaunting of the armed forces (major because it happens on Defence Day at a smaller scale anyway) should be reserved for defence day. Pakistan Day cannot be identified with our military might - that is very shallow, and we already have the Defence Day for that.

Pakistan Day should be more profound and intellectual - it should be a day reserved for not only intellectual discourse, but also to recognize our arts, culture and diversity. It is a day to sell a positive, peaceful image of Pakistan.

Unfortunately, Pakistan Day has become yet another occasion to show-off our military hardware. The fact that people see nothing wrong with that shows the hostile and aggressive mentality of our people. They don’t see anything wrong with identifying Pakistan Day with our armed forces, as if they represent what Pakistan is about.

Every country should be proud of its armed forces and so are we. Our country is in the dumps, but our forces are very strong. However, we take excessive pride to the point where our military strength has become our identity, and that is very dangerous and shows how little progress we have made as a country.
