"A very exciting, positive change for Pakistan, young Haider Ali coming in - he can hit big shots! He opens mostly, but will probably bat here at No 3.

I thought we had no young talent and that’s why had to suffer with the likes of Malik and Iftikhar? I guess the radical idea of rewarding young domestic performers actually works.

As I’ve said before, the notion that there is no talent in a nation of 200m+ people is ridiculous.

Whether it is nurtured or not is a another story.

Showing himself not just a slogger but can maneuver the ball around the ground as well.
This pitch looks a bit slower than the last one though.
 
It's a shame he hasn't played all three games what a talent he is

Shows if PCB select the players on merit we can have a really Strong team

Hate the politics within the the PCB selection

Poor kid should have played from the 1st T20. I hope he has a long fulfilling career and hopefully with better management
 
Shows Pakistan has talent but management of the talent is poor. This is down both to player attitudes (so many players make an impact in their first few matches but can't keep up after that) and player management, which includes selection and coaching.

Babar is an exception.

Just kidding Haider Ali is the future G.O.A.T. Pakistani batsman. He is Babar Azam with six-hitting ability.
 
Lots to like. His true test will come when he's no longer a novelty and opponents do their homework on him, but Haider looks the antithesis of the crouching, front foot UAE style batsmen we've produced lately.

On a true surface in T20s you need guys who'll back themselves to clear the ropes and not to waste too many deliveries. And that's what he's doing tonight.

He looks quality. It's a shame he didn't play the other 2 T20s as Iftikhar and Malik aren't good enough.

The shots which he played, just wow.

Been following him since the U-19 days and it was so good to see him perform today!
 
Very promising first innings. It's a sign that they need to give dynamic young batsmen a go in the T20s, even if they fail. That's the only way Pakistan can be a somewhat multifaceted T20 side. The age old over reliance on bowling is so predictable it's boring.

On Haider Ali, a bit of constructive criticism, with the caveat that it was a very promising debut:

1) He looked a bit nervy out in the middle. Very understandable, however that will go the more he plays

2) Technically he's still gets in an awkward position playing the pull and the hook. It's about training his mind on *when* to play the shot and position his body accordingly.

3) At this stage of his career he is not a "hitter" despite his fast start. It's imperative he bats in the top 4, be it t20s or ODIs. It's not his game to power hit from ball one in the lower middle order. Given Pakistan's lack of finisher options, there may be an idea to stick him at 5 (PZ hilariously tried it on the PSL this year with terrible results). Do not do it! Let him thrive in the top 4.

4) From having seen a few of his innings it's clear that he gets to a fast start, then goes a run a ball once he's in his 30s and then tries to jump start his innings again with boundaries. As he plays more, I hope he understands when to be aggressive, to allow for more risk free batting. As an example, he got out today trying to force a hit, as he had not hit a boundary for a few balls

5) Apparently I hear that keeps as well.
Perhaps something to try against a lower ranked team

The funny thing is he normally plays offside but today he showed his strength on the leg side

The thing I liked about today's ininings is that he kept his shape when hitting when he played the psl he looked to loose his shape.

The only thing I have seen that he needs to work on is the bouncer how to play the hook shot but overall very impressed by his strike rotation and big hitting ability

Very nervy if he was nervous he wouldnt have hit his second ball for six ?

I agree with the point about playing the hook he needs to develop that shot with more expiernxe he will hopefully.

Of course haider ali is a power hitter in psl he went at over 150 better than buttler but I agree he needs to bat in the top four in both t20s and odis

He played a very good innings today went off to a fast start then rotated the strike very nicely when hafeez was getting it big.
 
As said previously, he is the best young batsman since Babar Azam. Decent defense, good strike rotation, picks the lengths early and strong on both back and front foot. Needs to keep his mind in check and he can turn out to be pretty good.
 
One thing you have to admit, if it wasn't for PSL a guy like Haider would have toiled away in domestics and hardly get any notice while selectors kept selecting their favorites.

Atleast PSL has helped in injection of new talent in the side. This is for PSL detractors like [MENTION=53290]Markhor[/MENTION]


Now onus is on selector to identify and try them out. Not a lot of hope while Misbah is there. Truth be told having a single coach and selector was an innovative concept and I was onboard with it when Wasim Khan announced it, but then the naive foreign import went ahead and appointed Misbah for the post. Totally killed all hopes of the system succeeding. Imagine a guy like Mickey at the post who took interest in domestics as well and would have been aware of upcoming talent as per the team's needs.

A very good innings by haider ali today showed alot of confidence and self belief ticked all the boxes today played the big shots and also rotated the strike very nicely first pakistan player to score 50 on debut pakistan does have talent just need to give youngsters more of a chance well done kid

Hopefully the upcoming domestic tournament and psl the youngsters are given further chances and opportunities haider ali saved misbah his job

Maybe one area of improvement is playing the short ball but overall brilliant Ininings
 
Looks good, a point of concern was all his big scoring shots were on the on side. He favors cross bat shots a lot. Good teams will figure this out and put their fielders there and adjust their lengths accordingly. I would like to see him play on the off side and straight down the ground as well. I hope he learns to discipline himself and keep his shot selection in check and not go down the Umar Akmal route
 
Should look to play the ball as late as possible. He’s got the power so he shouldn’t worry about reaching for the ball. Should watch a lot of Rohit Sharma from now on.
 
Excellent introduction. Hardly surprising. Only person that seemed surprised is misbah. He has done it in psl, domestic and under 19’s. Onwards and upwards for this guy. Agree with the previous poster.. this guy is best, most dynamic batsman I have seen from pak since babar. But he can also clear the boundaries. Wasim is right when he said we are missing x factor in batting. This guy could
Be just that. Number of sixes he hit in psl is great. Also 100 in final of first class tournament against decent bowlers if I remember correctly. I think we should
All be excited about this guy. Ive been screaming for his inclusion!! Onwards and upwards. Shame he had to wait until game 3
 
He averages 46 in first class with 2x 100 in 8 matches. And 43 in list a. This guy is going to be a superstar I think!! Reminds me of when I first saw babar for sure. No need to watch anyone else apart from babar. World t20 number 1 batsman and only guy in top 5 batters in all formats!!
 
He played shots on the legside because he got the balls on middle and around, he didnt force balls from off towards leg. He is a pretty good offside player and one can easily see that from any of his QAE centuries or U19 innings.

Again he has just started his career, there will be ups and downs like any player ever played cricket. He has the skills and most importantly seems to have a decent attitude unlike couple of infamous batsmen from last decade. If handled and developed well he can be one of the players who can become a top player for Pakistan across the formats.

Wasim said the same after match what you said in the match thread that it was probably coz debut he played a lot on legside eventhough his stronger side is hitting through cover in PSL..

Excited to see him play again.
 
Looks a 100 bucks this guy. Just hope someone like Mickey was there to see him develop like babar did from 2016-19. Maybe Younis could do that.
Also needs to play many more FC and List A matches to get better.

8 FC and 5 LA matches is way too small a sample size. He also only strikes at 72 in LA matches.
Haseeb Hameed from England had probably similar FC stats in a few more matches than Haider, but 4 years later he is in oblivion now.

He needs to bat and bat and bat in domestics to understand game dynamics and how to be one step ahead of the bowler.
When Babar first showed up in the ODI against Zim, he played more of a finisher role than a top order one. 54 off 60 he got by my vague memory batting against the tail.

Haider, 19, become the first Pakistan batsman to hit a half-century in his first T20 international as he struck 54 from 33 balls against England in the third and final game of the three-match series.

The right-hander hit the second ball of his international career, bowled by Moeen Ali, for six in a game Pakistan won by five runs to earn a 1-1 draw.

Pakistan edged a thriller at Emirates Old Trafford on Tuesday to earn a series draw and snap England's five-series winning streak in T20Is.

However, there was a nervy moment for the tourists when, with England requiring 12 from two balls, Tom Curran thumped Haris Rauf for six.

Rauf atoned from the final delivery with Curran unable to connect with a wide yorker but his delivery the previous ball bemused Wasim.

Wasim added: "It is a huge win for Pakistan, the captain Babar Azam and the coach Misbah-ul-Haq - but I have one question for the present bowlers.

He was pure class. Looked to be from the school of tagra, daleeri and badmashi. :akhtar

He was mosty getting bowled at the fourth and fifth stump and made full use of the smaller boundary on the midwicket. He got all the shots, and skills and the cherry on top is his fearless attitude. Needs to be managed well - something Misbah/Waqar have always been found incapable of throughout their coaching and captainship. Had there been someone like Mickey, i would have been more comfortable.
 
There is enough talent in our current system to make us a formidable LOI side.

Haider Ali is good but Zeeshan Malik is even better. It's a pity that he doesn't get selected for PSL.
 
Hope he turns out like Babar not like so many others who looks like world beaters in 1st year of international cricket & then becomes awful like Umar Akmal, Fakhar, Sohaib Maqsood, Sharjeel, Nasir Jamshed & many more.

There is a lot to like about Haider Ali. I didn't see the game tbh but what I have seen in the highlights, there seems to be an actual talented player who could be a mainstay for Pakistan cricket for at least a decade. But there is work to be done with him.

He normally alot of shots on the offside but today he played on the leg side shows he has the game on the both sides one thing I picked him in psl and in u19s is he struggles against the short ball

Defo not fakhar doesnt have the technique and can only play on one side of the pitch haider has a decent technique and can hit both sides of the pitch also he can rotate strike
 
I know it was only one innings and we have seen this sort of thing many times before in Pakistan cricket and been left disappointed, but this lad seems to have most bases covered.

He is tall, has a good range of shots, has power, he showed he can time the ball as well as smash it.

He has a long road ahead of him, I just hope he keeps his feet on the ground, works on his weaknesses and continues to improve.

The signs are good.

He also has good rotation of strike hit a four then got a single very good player

Haider came in with Pakistan 2-1 after the loss of Fakhar Zaman at Old Trafford yet struck his second ball in international cricket, from off-spinner Moeen Ali, for a soaring six.

Sometimes i feel he doesnt watch the ball till the very last moment on to his bat. Could work on that
 
There is always a room for improvement lets not play him in too much T20s ...playing firstclass and LOIs will help........he needs to just learn to construct innings
 
Lets hope he dont go Akmal way.....just imagine the batting line up Pak could have if everyone continue 2 do justice 2 his potential...

Won’t miss him much looking at his recent form for Pakistan and Peshawar Zalmi and the bubble breach incident. Last time around he was the pick of the players for the t20 series after Hafeez and this time he hasn’t even made the squad. Disappointing stuff from Haider who doesn’t have the right shot selection at the international level but I blame the management and PCB equally for not backing players when they are down and grooming them. Chopping and changing batting position for their useless experiments like babar and Rizwan opening when there’s a fragile middle order and 2 perfectly capable openers in Fakhar and Sharjeel. They’ve ruined the whole lineup and rhythm of the batting unit with Misbahs stubbornness and in the process ruining youngsters like Haiders future. Mark my words PCB will do the same thing with Azam khan when he starts struggling and so on. Had any competent board got these players like the bcci they would be match winners by now. Look at rishabh pant... he was just like Haider when he came but the management backed him and grommed him and still stand by him on his off days. Shame on the PCB and this Misbah management.
