"Happy to see some good young Pakistani spinners with tremendous temperament at the PSL" : Inzamam

(Translation): National Selection Committee Chairman Inzamam-ul-Haq says that he has seen some good young spinners in Pakistan Super League but there is a lack of talented young batsmen.

Inzamam, speaking to BBC Urdu at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, said in the interview that he was happy to see a few good spinners with tremendous temperament, but he was displeased with the performances by young batsmen since he did not see any such batsmen who could be match winners.

Inzamam said that there is a difference between playing a good innings and winning your team a match.

"Our batsmen can make good scores but they don't take the match to the end and finish it - they will need to work on that because the national team at the moment needs match-winners."

He said that when selecting the team, performances in domestic cricket as well as performances in PSL will also be kept in mind because PSL is an initiative by the PCB.

Pakistan team's former captain said "Everyone remembers that last year in the PSL, we found a superb cricketer in the shape of Hasan Ali."

The Chief selector expressed hope that the Pakistan team will perform well in the upcoming ODI series on the tour of West Indies, as this series is very important in the context of qualification for World Cup 2019.

According to him "Pakistan team can win this series but they will have to improve their standard of fielding."

In response to a query about captain Misbah-ul-Haq's future, Inzamam said that this decision will have to be taken by Misbah himself.

He further added that the board had given Misbah the choice to decide about his future and whatever decision he takes will be considered, but in his opinion, Inzamam thinks that "We have to look towards the future because we should play the same brand of cricket that the rest of the world is playing now."

I know this is off topic but in a post trump world I can't the word "tremendous" seriously anymore

Hasnain Khan and Shadab Kabir. :inzi

I literally rolled over laughing. He got both names wrong LMAO

And to make matters worse if I remember correctly "Hasnain" was bowling at that time. :)))

It shows the incompetent of our Cheif Selectors who doesn't even know the player's name... It seems like he came to see the match directly from Tableegh and someone whispered the name of few youngsters name while he was at Sharjah ground.

Don't trust Inzamam to make the right decisions.

Secondly, why is he relying on PSL performances for selection? What about domestic cricket?

I like how Nawaz stole a bit of the limelight in a key encounter, Markhor will be quiet for a couple of days now :))

This.

Someone like Mohammad Asghar has been doing well for a very long time now. He has bamboozled guys like Younus Khan and Kamran Akmal in the last few tournaments.

Asghar isn't that far off national selection imo. He was in the squad vs Australia so it's a sign to me he isn't far off making his test debut.

he said domestic as well as psl which is fair enough because u learn more and quicker about a guys temperamenr in these situations.
thats fair enough. lets not bash him for everything n anything

Hate to say this but Inzi has been a terrible cheif selector until now !!

For the great man that he has been over the years for us, the guy I believe isn't well suited for the job.

لیکن وہ نوجوان بیٹسمینوں کی کارکردگی سے خوش نہیں ہیں کیونکہ انھیں ایسے بیٹسمین نظر نہیں آئے جو میچ ونرز ہوں۔

This is such a strange comment, since he´s referring to the upcoming batsmen in the PSL. Whether someone´s a match-winner or not is a debate that comes up when a player´s into his international cricket, not when he´s playing domestic or league cricket. There you look for skill and ability. For example, people dispute whether Kallis was a match-winner on his own or just an accumulator, but would any country´s selectors in their right state of mind drop him from the national team (when he was at his prime)?

If this is what he looks for in the upcoming players then I´ve no idea how that can work for a (chief) selector. Fakhar and Talat have both played a "Match-winning" innings each, and Shadab as lower-order batsman made a match out of nothing and it was his innings that pushed the game to a last-over thriller.

All fine if he talks about strike-rate and the intent of a batsman, which´s so vital in this age and era, but he´s talking about a strange criterion.

Well a couple of good prospects but largely Pakistan lacks talent.

No good upcoming fast bowlers spotted in the PSL

No potentially good batsmen at the scene , I don't really buy the hype around fakhar and talat.

Lets hope the next PSL gives us a Good fast bowler.

Should rely on PSL as it is the world class tournament played with and against world class players and not the domestic only players...why u dont want him to rely on PSL performances and only rely on domestic cricket...

domestic cricket is the same old garbage and everybody knows how rubbish is that ..
