I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen a Test batsman have as terrible a year as Haris Sohail this year.

4 wickets at an average of 27.00!

So we have unearthed a specialist spinner who can bat?

Hopefully he regains his form , there is a six months gap. He is better batsman than this.

World class batsman, out of form just.

Brilliant wicket taker haha.

He needs to regain his form ASAP.

Even though there is a huge gap between him and Babar in terms of batsmanship, he still is our 2nd best batsman, and we need him to get back to form as we can't totally depend on Babar all the time and the likes of Azhar, Masood are not dependable enough.

World class batsman?

In a fortnight he will be 31 years old.

He has scored 744 Test runs in his life. Abid Ali is halfway there after 2 matches.

So by the age of 31, this “world class batsman” averages 35.42.

I’m really not getting it.

Need to be patient with him.

He's been around for 5 years and will be 31 in two weeks. I am not sure how much patience he will get when there are other deserving batsmen ready to take his spot

How is he your second best batsman?

In 22 Test innings overall, he has failed to reach fifty in 18 of them.

In 8 Test innings outside Asia he has never in his life reached 40 in an innings, let alone 50.

He has no right to be in the Test squad. He makes Shan Masood look like Donald Bradman.

Has been poor but its part and parcel of cricket. Form is not a constant phenomenon. Also a bitter truth is we dont have many better replacements than Haris in tests. Yes maybe you can swap him with Fawad in the playing 11 but cant think of many names who are good enough to be in the squad as middle order players. A name or two which can be decent wont be liked by most posters here.

Players aren't judged like that.

He has the technique and was our best batsman in the World Cup in Eng.

Has scored tons of runs in domestics too. There's ability and already a good show.

This is a bad patch.

In tests against Srl and NZ Haris Sohail was probably actually looking like Don Bardman vs Shan who was looking more like Courtney Walsh.

Using stats for every other two months interval might make Agarkar look like a better batsman than Tendulkar on particular week or month. So I am not sure this is the way it works.

That being said Haris definitely needs to start producing goods.

The management clearly shielded him today by sending Rizwan instead of him.

If he had come and failed on a pitch like this (considering his form he would have) there would be no excuse left not to play Fawad

I guess it was more to do with continuing the momentum of runs at a decent pace. As obviously Rizwan is in better touch than Haris to get going from the ball one.

He has white ball technique but he doesn’t have a red ball technique. His feet go nowhere and hhe just slashes outside off-stump.

Failing to reach 50 in 18 out of 22 Test innings is catastrophically bad.

So you want Fawad to play ahead of Haris? Next match? Reason?

Still though, in his entire Test career Haris Sohail has only reached fifty 4 times in 22 innings.

By way of comparison, Shadab Khan has 3 fifties (and a 47 not out) in 9 innings.

Agreed that he has been struggling. Which options do you suggest if you think he shouldnt even be in the test squad?

Considering QAE trophy Ashiq Ali and Faizan Riaz are 30+ and I am not sure if they are test material. Usman Salhuddin is decent but limited in his shot range and I think as Shan and Azhar are already there for holding role we cant afford another one. I dont mind Umar Akmal and was avoiding to write his name as people jump over it like no tmw. So other than these names we dont have anyone else. Yes Saud Shakeel can be be tried although he hasnt been in great form lately himself.

1 Abid Ali
2 Sami Aslam
3 Shan Masood (c)
4 Babar Azam
5 Asad Shafiq (Final year)
6 Mohammad Rizwan
7 Shadab Khan
8 ASIA Zafar Gohar
8 SENA Faheem Ashraf
9 ASIA Sajid Khan
9 SENA Naseem Shah
10 Mohammad Abbas
11 Shaheen Shah Afridi

Reserve batsmen: Imran Butt, Usman Salahuddin
Reserve all-rounder: Amad Butt
Reserve quicks: Sameen Gul, Ehsan Adil.

That’s my 18 man Test squad.

Should be dropped for next test series, need to improve technically and with his fitness.

He is keeping Fawad Alam out.

I prefer Harris over him but can not afford to go for so long with this casual approach. Why do our players get so fat at the age of 30 odd?

Decent squad but for Shadab to be constant at no 7 he needs to work a lot on his batting. There can be argument for maybe Saud Shakeel at no 6 or 7 as he is pretty decent with his bowling too so can contribute with that along with his superior batting than Shadab. Shadab needs to make the test team fully on either his batting or bowling which I think he has the ability to but just needs bit more polishing. Was Impressive with bat in hand in SENA.

Though I still like to strategy you are suggesting and definitely Pak management needs to think about that 5th bowling option as well if they arent confident in using Haris or Fawwad for 10 overs in an innings atleast.

I have faith in his batting.

He'll bounce back.

Too good to discard.

He is not great, but he still is very good compared to Azhar, Asad, Masood, etc...

He has not played to his potential in Tests, mainly because of injuries, but he has been very good in ODIs, especially during the WC, where he was a distant second behind Babar.

However, if he continues to underperform in Tests, he should be replaced without hesitation.

Because Haris is woefully out of form.

It’s not just that he’s performing terribly for a while (which is reason enough to drop him) but he looks totally out of form and confidence. He needs a break to rediscover his touch and work on his game

He’s good but needs to be given time and space to work his form back.

Falling in international cricket isn’t way to do that.

Also discarding doesn’t mean he’ll be discarded forever

Confidence looks low.

Needs to spend some time assessing his batting, not thinking too much about it. Talk to people he trusts, who he knows can help him.

He just about cemented his place in test cricket and then the management changed. His performances were improving under Mickey/Grant. He will only deteriorate under Misbah/Misbah and will eventually be dropped from all formats.

Very low on confidence, class player but Fawad has to be ahead of him for the next test .. btw better bowler then Yasir recently

Shadab Khan has been downhill big time, dont know if its a fitness issue.

And why the obsession with Faheem. Has he not been given enough chances already to show how ordinary he is, specially with the bat?

It's a little unfair to look at 3 test innings!!!
That is too small a sample size.
Last year he was our second best bat.
Can somebody get the stats for our bats since start of 2018.
I'm sure haris will still be up there
