I've not been following Pakistan cricket as vigorously as I used to six or seven years ago, I only dabble in during major tournaments such as this one. I must say though that this lad and his batting technique looked seriously good the other day against India . It was the first time that I've seen him play and I'll leave the stat disecting etc to the more ardent posters on here but his defence, stroke play and lovely composure gave me that little bit of confidence again in Pakistan cricket. I had more or less given up on Pakistan cricket due to various reasons (being let down by them tournament after tournament) but from the little I saw of him I was impressed.

Have I bigged him up too much? To those who have been following him and Pakistan cricket let me know.
 
He has a solid technique. But needs to learn how to play spin well. He struggles against off-spinners and chokes.
 
Very good batsman. One of the best in Pakistan. Most composed alongside Babar Azam.

Shehzad, Akmal, Jamshed other very good ones. Add Maqsood to the list, Shafiq, Azhar & Sami Aslam we have a quality line up.

Can't forget Fawad Alam. Then the youngsters on the block Imran Butt, Siddiq, Mukthar Ahmed, Imam ul Haq, Hassan Raza etc.

Things looking good for Pakistan.

Thanks for that. Like I said I've never seen him before and wouldn't have known that if you hadn't told me. I do think that he has serious potential.

It's a welcomed change anyways.
it's usually the opposite..we tend to play spin well apart from him and Misbah.
 
He's good but he can't play spin, best batsman in the team though. When he does get out it's only when the bowler gets the best of him and his technique, rarely throws his wicket away.
 
looks like he belong at the big stage unlike many of our batsman who you can visibly uncomfortable at the crease.
 
He gets tied down easily on the off side. Also struggles against the short ball
 
I will go against the grain and say that he will struggle to score at the SR required because of his elbow position and backlift.
 
He should play test cricket - his game against spin will develop more.
 
He plays spin very well. Those who have followed him in domestics would know this.

He was playing Ajmal with ease and this is when Ajmal used to be at the top of his game. Picked his doosras, slower ones etc really well.

I think the problem with right now is a) He hasnt encountered anything like the pressure of Ind-Pak game before. Understandable that he got bogged down. It takes time for one to settle in international cricket.
b) He is not sure of his role in the team. One match he is batting at three, the next four and then at six-seven. Which is showing in his batting. Things will change once he settle's into the no.3/4 position.


He has enormous potentail. The way he was playing Anderson with ease was great to see. Give him time, with slight adjustments in his technique, I am sure he will come good.
 
Yup, looked good. Hope they continue to bat him at 1-down! =)
 
Seems to have been given a late start as he's already 26, which appears to be a trend with Pakistan cricket at the moment.
 
Yeah but a packed off side field and a fast bowler bowling around the wicket/off spinner totally boxed him in, couldn't get off strike
 
He has good technique but should not have slowed down after reaching 30 odd against India. His wicket started our batting collapse...
 
Lets not get carried away like usual. A few boundaries does not make him the next Brian Lara. When he scores zero next time those singing his praises here will be criticizing him like there is no tomorrow. Harris Sohail is decent, nothing more at this point.
 
Good by Pakistani standards, mediocre internationally
 
Our fascination of looking good when batting should stop. We already have Shahzad, Umar, Amin etc. who when counts have rarely delivered. Your actual performance needs to count for something?

That being said Haris for sure is talented, hopefully he can do justice to his talent by working hard at his game.
 
I like him, but it was worrying to see him so bogged down with a packed offside field. This is not the first time a captain is going to set that kind of field for him, mainly because of the types of shots he plays, so I don't know what happened.

Could be the pressure of playing in an India v Pak game.
 
He is good but needs to work on his leg side game.

Also he plays the seamers the best in the team and therefore should be opening.
 
I don't understand what fans want him to do?

One match he was batting below Misbah, as he scored he was moved 2nd down. Now failure of YK has moved him to one down. He was on the pitch in second over.

Fans expect too much from young guys, he just got into team 2 months ago. He has never bowled before but we want him to fill 5th bowler role. He should also now see off new ball, be aggressor since Shezad plays 70% dot balls in first 10 and YK, NJ and Hafeez are sitting ducks. While he has done that why not play a long innings to play out spinners and win us World Cup, anything shot of that he is a complete failure.

Kholi played last WC as a young player, what was expected from him? - did they dump him because he did not do anything, specially against Pakistan he was out for nothing??

He was ABSOLUTELY CLUELESS against Mohit Sharma.

Just could not play any other shot beside a block with slightly slanted bat.

Mohit kept on bowling the same exact line and length at every delivery, he was 110% predictable but Harris's brain was totally numb.

Harris couldn't improvise Mohit to get a single. It was very, very frustrating to see.

Folks talk about Kohli but in my opinion, Mohit Sharma was the unsung hero who set up the tone and Ashwin took it from there. Both of them choked the life out of Pak batsmen. And it all started with Mohit vs Harris.
 
He is good but needs to learn a lot. He is not bad against spin like many people are saying here but he is not smart enough. Against India all he had to do was chip one of the extra cover, get the fielders back and take easy singles but he got bogged down. I still have reservations over his technique as well. His feet movement isn't that good. He has a d cent defense though.

Looking at this post we have some of the best batting talent. India we are coming to get you in 2019.

People who think he can't play spin obviously haven't seen enough of Haris' batting. A good off-spinner can trouble any batsman, and the delivery he got out to against Ashwin would have probably gotten the better of any left hander.

His issue isn't spin, unfortunately, like many other Pakistani batsmen right now, he struggles to rotate the strike regularly. And for that reason he gets tied down way to easily, and ends up creating too much pressure for himself which eventually causes his downfall.
 
He was the best Pakistani batsman apart form Misbah from what I've seen. Cool, composed. Has a good temperament too..

He struggled against both tredwell and Ashwin, lacks ability to dominate off-spin

That's what I was talking about.
He is not flawless by any means.
In fact, the problem with pakistani players has always been the fans and media portraying them as they are flawless, which leaves no room for improvement.

It was pretty good imo, it pitched on middle stump and turned away sharply. Sharp turn and bounce like that would trouble a lot of batsmen.

Thats everyday stuff for left handers, should have been able negotiate that...

He is a good player but his weakness against off-spin is pretty evident

Against short ball he needs to improve too and last but not the least SR rotation is below par

He is better than Umar and Maqsood because he isnt a slogger, but weaknesses are certainly there and he should try to eradicate them before teams start to strangle him down every match

Jadeja is a decent ODI bowler
 
Has potential but needs to work on on side play and finding gaps. Once Dhoni packed that outside field, he couldn't do anything.
 
Shame that he couldnt convert into a big score which seems to be the case with him and most young pakistani batsmen.

They just dont seem to have the patience and hunger to score big

yup has weakness against off spin I remember Swann schooled him in the 3 day game back in 2012. One good thing is there not many good off spinners in this tourney Ashwin is the best he could face by the end of this tourney.
 
He needs to develop the sweep shot. I haven't seen him play one at all against the spinners.

And yes needs to find ways to better rotate strike.

that is a stupid argurement, i have seen many ppl say that he needs to play spin well... can these ppl back their arguement with some proof.. i asked these guys who say he cant play spin, "he has played 11 inns and how much time was he out to an off spinner as u argue" he was either out to a good ball bowled by a spinner or taking a risk to up the runrate against the spinner.

he is much better than what u think... he is definitely a promising prospect, i was really impressed the way he middled the ball and the sound.. he can pull a 150 kph bouncer from Milne to a boundary, which even the experienced batsmen will struggle to do.. pakistan cannot get any player bigger than haris sohail, he is the most complete batsman pakistan have at the moment..shut up ur nonsense after one match..

Let me give my honest opinion on Harris:

He is better than MAqsood, Shehzad, Umar Akmal, because he doesnt slog much tries to play proper shots...

But comparing him to good international players he is mediocre or just about acceptable. He has issues with short ball and off spin. He gets bogged down when the opposing captain packs his area of strength.

Examples of his troubles with off-spin: Against Swann in UAE, Against tredwell and against Ashwin

same here, don't follow much cricket these days ---
but i am impressed with Haris Sohail, hope he delivers & all the best to him!
 
He has a lot of time to play pacers. He looked comfortable playing the swinging ball, atleast a lot more comfortable than YK.

Just needs to rotate the strike more against spinners. Also needs to score big if he wants a long run at number 3.

If he is the most complete batsman we have, it tells volumes about the quality of our batting department.
 
Good thing about him is his strike rotation. Probably, best in the team right now. Only thing remaining from his side to prove is a big innings.

i think some fans have given up on Pakistan producing a good international class batsman after years of disappointment. now that Pakistan has actually found a batsman with huge potential, they just cant accept that he is good enough when he clearly is.

Pretty sure there were many like you who would've said the same about Tendulkar, Kohli etc at their debuts.

The ones who can't identify talent and can't predict their future.

He'll be a batting star for PAK.

I watched in a match where he smacked saeed ajmal for two consecutive sixes when the seniors had a practice match with the A-team, he came to bat no.5 and he was the only one chasing the target and keeping the run rate up.. he is not very bad against off-spin as u think...he can have few flaws which evry batsmen have , and for a guy being new to int'l cricket few months back, i think its too harsh on him, he already have outplayed the tailunts of shehzad, UA and Maqsood.

Ajmal struggled against Left handers (Yuvraj, hussey to nae a few)

Harris has issues with conventional off spinners

He plays beautiful strokes and has a fine technique but sadly, he's another dot-or-a-boundary player who can't work the ball through gaps if his life depended on it.
 
he is a dependable player who would make you useful 30 to 40 atleast
not an exceptional talent though

just had one bad game ie vs west indies

He should try to plan like score 20 then plan to score 40 then plan to score a 50 then 70
he should try to convert his 30s into 50s and more

People don't know how good Imam was when he played u19 cricket for pak. People start calling him perchie without even knowing the facts. I watched Imam open with Sami aslam many times he was a solid bat.
 
He is the most technically correct batsman present in Pakistan, can dominate good fast bowlers as well as spinners.

Should play all formats, but can be a great in Tests and ODIs if he remains injury free.
