Haris Sohail marks competitive cricket return with a century [update#103]

He had more or less established his place in the side before he got injured. He had shown that he belongs at this level. Such players are usually given a chance to play in the national side straight away. For example pat cummins.

Evertime Pat Cummins has made return to Australian team he has proved his form and performance in domestic cricket and than returned.

Once Haris is fully fit I expect him to return and perform well (InshaAllah) but this is not a certainty. He has to play domestic cricket and prove his form and performance in few matches and than return.

I still have doubts regarding his knee. I hope I am wrong but I have a gut feeling that He might need a resurrective surgery and still after that either He will be fuly match fit or only good enough for T20's. Just look at his Rehab time ? Its highly highly unusual.

I hope and pray that my gut feeling is unrealistic and is proven false.

He has temperament. He will naturally slot back in like Amir did. You don't get players like these every year. These are once in a decade kind of players.

He will be a important player for us after Misbah and Younis retire. I would like the test team to look like this.

1. Sami Aslam
2. Imam ul Haq
3. Azhar Ali
4. Babar Azam
5. Haris Sohail
6. Asad Shafiq
7. Sarfaraz
8. Yasir Shah
9. Amir
10. Wahab Riaz
11. Hassan Ali

I thought you called Mukhtar Ahmed once in a decade kind of player. You know the guy you had as your profile picture before Sherjeel.

This has been the longest comeback from injury I can remember from any cricketer.

So what's been going on for the last 18 months ? I would appreciate if someone in the know could give a full timeline of events.

His loss has been a huge blow. He could have been in the test team in place of some younger guys. He has the temperament required and doesnt wilt under pressure.

In summary. Total mess up by so called experts at PCB.

Looks like saviour is making slow progress. Expected.

The big test - will he play in the Regions OD Cup?

OMG ! He's started bowling too. Is he looking for all-rounder's spot in the Pakistan team ?

If he is fit even for bowling he should have played the National OD cup then.

Finally back in ground. It's sad that it has taken him 15-18 months, he could have ironed out his flaws during that time. Let's hope he just stays fit.

Bowling already ????? Bad step from someone who is recovering from such a serious knee operation ... I hope some medical expert tells him to stop bowling for now and just concentrate on batting..

Can anybody tell the full lineuo of NCA XI and their performance.
Scorecard in short

Haris Sohail marks competitive cricket return with a century

Haris Sohail’s unbeaten 119 runs off 112 balls guided NCA Youth XI to the second successive victory over Malaysia cricket team here at the Gaddafi stadium, Lahore. Earlier in the day, Ahmad Faiz, captain of Malaysia cricket team after winning the toss elected to bat first, but the batsmen failed to capitalize on the decision and the whole team was bundled out for 216 inside 42 overs. Virandeep Singh scored 55 runs off 61 balls with six boundaries for the visiting team. Salman Arshad was the most successful bowler for NCA Youth XI with 4 wickets for 33 runs. Haris Sohail also chipped in and took 3 wickets for 13 runs in three overs. Chasing 217 to win, the NCA Youth XI lost its first wicket with a score of 29 on the board, but Haris Sohail came to the party and played some delightful shots which included 13 fours and 3 magnificent sixes in a knock of unbeaten 119 runs off 112 balls.

The NCA Youth XI won the match by seven wickets and leads three-match series two-nil.

Sorry for not getting excited about someone who is already 28 and hasnt played any form of cricket, international at least, since May 2015.

Yeah because he should have played cricket on one leg...

The fact is that he was one of the more promising batsmen in domestic cricket with a good record in both FC and List-A cricket and had shown glimpses of his ability on the international stage, thus the sentiment.

Whether he can replicate that performance and stay fit in the future is another matter.

Nice to see him back in action, just a beginning though. PCB had some mistakes in the past regarding taking care of the injured players, but should be appreciated for backing up Harris this time. Hope other deserving players will also get help from PCB where needed.

Good to see him back on field.
Pak team need him at moement. Lets hope, his knees are good now and docs keep close eye on his knees as he make return.

He has 4 months to make the CT 2017 team. It'll be a fantastic combination with Babar, Haris, Sarfy, Mian at 3-6 & Umar opening with SK, but for the time being Azhar will open.

7. Imad,
8. Yamin/Fahim/Yamin/Hammad
9. Amir
10. Hasan
11. Irfan/Wahab/Sohail

That's a decent ODI squad to start. In 2 years time Mian & the No. 11 to be replaced (& Azhar, unless he improves his ODI game)

It seems like you are talking about amir. Most promising young player. Good FC records. I hope Harris does better in international circuit though

If Pakistan want to play a pace all rounder they will play anwar Ali. No compromise on that :inzi

Should be our #3 against the West Indies. I hope Younis Khan moves down a spot to allow Babar to bat at #4.

1_Sharjeel (Attacking Left hand opener)
2_Umar (Attacking right hand opener)
3_Babar(VC) (Both Anchor and Aggressor right hander)
4_Haris (same as babar but left hander)
5_Sarfraz(WK and C) (solid keeper batsman who can milk spin in middle overs and right hander)
6_Yamin (Right hand solid Batting Allrounder plus medium Pace bowler)
7_Imad (Left hander and attacking spin all rounder)
8_ ? ( Hard hitting pace Bowling Allrounder)
9_Amir (Good left arm fast who can stick around with bat and can also smash few quick runs)
10_Usama Mir(Solid Leggie for LOIs who can actually spin the ball and no mug with bat)
11_Hassan Ali(Solid right arm fast medium and also have some potential with bat)
We have the players but need a selection committe who have working brain cells and management who can play these players in correct batting order to get maximum out of these players, and i can guarantee this team can atleast be a top 4 team in world, what you guys think? And which player can be that hard hitting allrounder at eight? MMHS Junaids what you think about this combo and batting order,

ODIs? Not sure about that. Much rather see Babar, Akmal, Sarfaraz and Rizwan from #3 to #6. Sharjeel and Azhar opening.

Averages 41 in ODIs at 80+ strile rate. Rare for a Pakistani batsman. Wont like to see such a potential being ignored.

very good observation i agree...

Yah , send him playing test cricket without even one fc match after his return. He needs to play at least the qualifying round of quadezam trophy to get ready for test cricket. No amount of gym and exercises makes you ready for test cricket , its time in the middle that matters.

Finally.

Let's hope he stays fit now and can play for the national team for a few years.

I guess. Could be a useful #3.

There is time until the series against the West Indies.

With QEA trophy finished, I don't think there will be any first class games until then? Probably only grade II games, which aren't enough of a preparation for test cricket

The worst thing we can do to Haris Sohail is big him up and create such a perception that Haris Sohail is the batting solution to our woes. We don't need to publish each and every performance of his. Let him earn his place back in the team and let him not feel the weight of expectations. The best way would be for PPers to just forget about him and let his bat do the talking for himself.

^^^Talk about 'Over-Reaction', oh bhai people are happy to see him back after 15-18 months...he was quite good in his career for Pakistan till he got injured, so quite natural to want to see him get back in team!

Not sure about Mir, but I'll always play an attacking Leggi in LOs, even in T20s - if Mir is the best of the lot, so it be.

Pace bowling is a bit weak in your team - ideally there should be 3 pacers - one new ball specialist, one old ball specialist & one complete fast bowler to bowl in 3 spells & go for wickets. At the moment, Hasan is very good prospect for the old ball specialist, Amir has to be the bowling leader while, ideally a 28 years old Sohail would have been perfect for No. 8; but he is 38; therefore PCB has to find one new talent for that spot - for the time being, full fit Irfan can serve till CT2017.

Yamin, Hammad, Fahim are perfect for the pace all-rounder, but in Asia, PAK will need a spin all-rounder in Asia in their place - MoHa or Shadab can be the option; but Nawaz should compete with Imad, both should never play in same match as Haris can bowl SLAO as well. With 2 balls rule, there has to be 3 complete pacers on bowling merit always, every where.

Although I would love to see Harris back in action, believe me we need someone like him up the order, I wouldn't be gushing out heaps of praise on mauling some Gully Mohallah team.

That's right ! The Malaysian blokes that played NCA Youth XI were no more than a proper Mohallah Team. I used to play for a cricket club in Kuala Lumpur (Spinning Slayers - Made up of Pakistani Expats) and these boys couldn't even face me; while truth be told, I am quite rubbish.

Club sides in Pakistan would absolutely hammer them into oblivion if a proper series is to be conducted. It's a good workout for Harris (An International Star) for Pakistan but no way this should be used as a barometer for batting form.

Harris with an arm tied behind his back and hoping on one knee would also have been able to score a 50 odd without a doubt

NCA Youth XI takes a 3-0 lead over Malaysia

Captain’s knock from Nasir Nawaz guided NCA Youth XI to an emphatic six-wicket victory over Malaysia in the third one-day on Thursday at Gaddafi stadium, Lahore. Ahmed Faiz captain of Malaysia cricket team won the toss for third successive time and elected to bat first. The visitors piled 272 for the loss of six wickets in 45 overs with captain Ahmed Faiz scoring a magnificent unbeaten 139 off 125 balls with six sixes and 13 fours on all parts of the ground. Salman Irshad was the most successful bowler for the NCA Youth XI with a match figure of 3 for 58 whereas Captain Nasir Nawaz took 2 wickets for 61. In reply, the openers provided a solid platform to the run chase and scored 50 runs inside eight overs. The openers Zaid Alam and Abdullah Shafiq scored 66 and 35, respectively. Nasir Nawaz played a captain's inning and scored an unbeaten 105 off just 67 balls with 3 sixes and 12 fours. His aggressive batting helped the home team to chase down the target inside 38 overs for the loss of four wickets. Haris Sohail scored 21 off 12 balls with two sixes before getting out to the leg-spinner Rashid Ahad who took 2 wickets for 64 runs in nine overs. Nasir Nawaz, who also captained Pakistan U-19 team in the Junior Asia Cup recently while talking to the media said,” It was a good match practice for the home team which was mainly consisted of U-19 players. The visitors had given a great fight and it was a good omen that the batsmen were chasing the target well. I hope the U-19 players will learn a lot from the series and rejuvenate them for the upcoming junior World Cup”.
