Haris Sohail says he's recovered from injury and is fit and ready for PSL 2019 [Update Post #103]

I watched some video posted on the PCB channel about Haris playing some game with Azhar Ali and in the video, he’s laughing and he tells Azhar his right knee is messed up and he should go easy on him lol this was before SA so maybe his right knee has been bothering him for a while.

Haris Sohail likely to miss Pakistan Super League 4

LAHORE: Left-handed batsman Haris Sohail is likely to skip the fourth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) due to a knee injury. Sohail was drafted in by the Lahore Qalandars during the draft in Islamabad on November 20 but it seems like he won’t be able to play for the franchise after failing to recover from his recurring knee issues. The 30-year-old had, earlier, returned home without taking part in even a single Test match of the series against South Africa due to the same problem. According to sources, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) conducted a scan at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore – which revealed that Sohail needs at least four months of rehabilitation before being fit to play cricket once again. The report of the scan added the he must refrain from playing cricket during this period, while his progress will be monitored by the head of PCB’s medical panel Sohail Saleem.

According to Haris he will be fit for the PSL.

Let's see.

Our 2nd best batsman for ODI/test. As soon as he's fit he should slot in ahead of Shoaib Malik for ODIs.

Don’t think his body is built to last at this level, always tragic when a talented player is let down by their physical limitations, but it has happened before the other skilled players as well. Wish him the best but I don’t have any expectations from him given his condition. Am ready to be surprised though.

Time to move on from him for good. Decent player but not worth the trouble.

I know some may have doubts since he is injured a lot. But he is a must if fit. Look how he played vs NZ. Has the best average vs top teams also.

Any updates regarding his injury? Nothing in the media relating to how his rehab is coming along.

We desperately need another proper batsmen in ODI's for the world cup and he should be the man.

next thread....Harris ruled out of PSL then Aus/Eng tour.... then finally ruled out of WC.... PCB should rather spend time in looking for other players...

Hoping against hope thats not the case.. we need him back.

He is no Lara, just and OK player and has been unfit and injury prone, why are we keep on making big deal about his injury and non-availability. Time to move on and give chances to younger players.

He doesn't have the level of fitness to succeed in long run so he should retire now and make for someone more deserving player.

He is a pretty average cricketer. Surprisingly seems invoke lots of emotions on this forum. He is no big loss and even if he is back he won't play ahead of senior at no4. Ignore him and let him retire.

He’s an average player, definitely better than the below average batsmen Pakistan has tried over recent years but you would think he’s scored half a dozen double centuries with the following he has here :)

If he took his cricket seriously he would have worked on his fitness - it can’t be coincidental that he looks overweight and out of shape physically when ever he plays, even if you leave aside his recurring knee injuries.

You have no right to ignore your fitness as a cricketer unless you can bat like Inzamam or Yousaf.

Thats all well in good, but if somehow lets say Shoaib Malik gets dropped or Injured I do believe that Haris is the best we have for number 4. and yes I realize that he's no Inzamam or Yousaf but he may be the best we have out of all our world cup probables that could slot into the middle order.

I've asked him if he is playing in the PSL.

Not that I want Malik or Hafeez there, but you have to be supremely reckless to carry such an injury prone player to the tournament

Great News. Our media was saying he was out for 4 months clearly they don't like him. We need haris at 4 in the World Cup, like this we can get rid of Malik.

Good news but i have little hope that it will last long though.

great news, Hope he doesnt get any more injuries.. He needs to be managed well... At the moment there will be no tests, so hopefully he can survive till the CWC... His fitness needs t be improved...

Haris please don’t play much PSL and save yourself for the World Cup! We need you! 💚

Lots of game in quick succession, let's see how his body holds up if he is avaliable as Saj said.

At this moment, there is no better player than Haris Sohail to compete Malik/Hafeez from the bench. If he gets fit, he should be given all 5 ODIs vs Australia at #4.
However after the WC, Pak should go for much fitter players like Saad Ali or Saud Shakeel.

So he's preferring PSL over national duty.

What a stupid mind. Risking getting injured in a fun league!!!

If he doesn't play and perform in PSL Inzi will even forget about his existence. He is not a stupid mind, infact he is quite intelligent for knowing the mentality of our selectors. Selection criteria is just hit three timely sixes and you will make it to T20 and ODI sides and be on cusp of even test selection.

Inzi the revolutionary :inzi2 :salute

Will Hafeez select Harris and Agha Salman in the playing XI knowing that these two can replace him in the national side ?

That is partly true about Inzi indeed.

The problem is he's not an automatic starter, so he sees PSL as a stepping stone to a return in the ODI side (along with additional income).

Would be great to see him bat at 4 in the WC.

Really sad for him

Incredible talent but injuries have runied him. Hoping for a miracle and he stays injury free.

He’s a must for the World Cup , I mean he’s a proven match winner and has scored some great centuries for Pakistan in the past which changed the match so even half fit Haris with a dodgy knee and looking out of shape physically is worth going with.

Incidentally how many 100s does he have now ?

And he has played over 200 matches. Right. If i remember correctly he's got like 9 50+ score is his last 13 odi's.

Hafeez scored his first 100 after 8 years. Likewise it took Malik 60+ ODIs to get his first.

I know this post is sarcasm but Haris Sohail has 7 50+ scores in his last 10 ODIs, and also two scores in the 40s.

I'd take that over Hafeez or Malik any day of the week.

Not underestimating the guy’s potential if he can sort his fitness out, But even the recent 50s have come against mainly against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh , Afghanistan , the same teams where likes of Imam were scoring 100s..

His fitness has serious question marks and unless he’s proven himself as a match winner , he’s going to be a liability until he sorts it out and that’s not just the dodgy knees.. his level of fitness might also explain the difficulty in converting the 50s to 100s.

4 of his last 9 50s are vs NZ. And Haris bats at 4-5, doesn't open.

The last time he played against them teams was in 2015 and scored around 15 against Afghanistan. Never got a 50 against them. Plus he has scored 6 50s against new Zealand in 9 odis.

Saj is this still the case, i.e. he is fully fit? If so, it is a puzzle as to why he isn't being picked.

Abdullah719 help me out here. I lost all goodwill to LQ when they selected Salman Butt, but if they continue to bench him then are they forgiven? :P

Also glad to see they are starting to play something close to their best XI (although they should only play three of Sandeep, SSA, Rauf, Yasir, Rahat) as otherwise their tail is too long.

The way around this is to credit LQ's management for picking Butt and to credit FZ for picking Haris over him :genius

With Haris' inclusion the team looks a lot better. Agree with the long tail part, maybe they can pick Hasan Khan if they want to play a spinner alongside Lamichhane as he is competent with the bat.

I like your thinking :)).

Re playing XI:

Fakhar
Sohail Akhter
Haris Sohail
AB
Umair Masood
Corey Anderson/Ryan ten Doeschate
David Wiese
Hasan Khan
Sandeep
Haris Rauf
SSA (if fit)/Rahat

What is latest on SSA?
