Has a Pakistani Coach ever headed an international team other than Pakistan?

As the title says. I cannot recall any Pakistani coach being the main coach of any other side. What is the reason? Are they only good enough for Pakistan team?

dont think anyone from the subcontinent has ever coached a team ... they only coached minnows like Afg, UAE and Bang(then, not now dont go bonkers) ...

Mushtaq Ahmed and Saqlain worked as bowling coaches of many different teams (West Indies, NZ, England etc.). They never were head coaches though.

Imran Khan could actually turn up and take any position in most cricket boards around the globe. He was a man just above nationalities in cricket.

Only people i think who comes close to him would have been Javed Miandad and Wasim Akram. I think Miandad wasted his coaching career due to petty politics he played in the team otherwise he was extremly street smart and would have been a great coach

Wasim Akram for me would be an ideal candidate too but his cloudy past has probably kept teams away from him and also i dont think he was that interested in coaching full time...

The reason that you don't see Asian coaches coaching non-asian teams is simple - in Asia, the only qualification needed to be coach is being a former player. In the rest of the world, former players are rarely head coaches and even on the odd occasion that they are former players, they are almost inevitably not former superstars. Non-asian coaches, whether former players or not, inevitably come with a great deal of coaching qualification and experience.

I don't think Desi coaches will ever get to be head coaches in SENA (SA/England/NZ/Aus) countries. SENA countries have way better coaches.

Not just Pakistan, desis aren't preferred by SENA countries for top coaching posts. They might hire a few as specialist coaches or as consultants when they tour our part of the globe but that's the limit. Will be interesting to see if this deadlock is ever broken. I think SA will benefit under an Asian coach, say for instance Hathurusingha.

In the western world you actually need qualifications to be a coach, sub continent criteria seems to be talk rubbish about the team long enough on TV to be considered, or be a former cricketer.

Desi cricketers are generally poor in english. The one who are good, never showed any interest in coaching.
But things might change now. Rahul Dravid, Jayawardene and Misbah have good communicational skills along with cricketing skills .

Not having a pakistani coach doesnt mean pakistanis are bad coaches.

Having a local coach is cheap compared to getting one internationally.

Plus, how many of our players do apply for such positions?

Someone mentioned john davison of canada, well one reason he is coach is again due to him being an australian national aswell.


India produces the best coaches. There school cricket coaches are well known figures in india. Now them not coaching an international team doesnt mean they are bad coaches.
