Can't hit, can't bowl, average -2 in England, married in enemy country, this that and the other.

Today was just 1 of numerous examples in the last 3 years since WC 2015 of how much of an asset and get free out of jail card Malik has been for us.

Always seems so relaxed and more of a giver of goodness to youngsters with positive reinforcement to balance out our captain, rather than a leech.

Really hope he keeps this up, seems like he has shattered his plateau as an accumulator and should re-stabilize the middle order as we bring in more youngsters.

Lol, a single innings against a West Indies C/D side is not enough to silent anyone. He played well, but so did most of our team. Shouldn't look into the performances too much regardless of the player in this series. Have seen in the past the world can come crashing down when we get in there with bigger teams after a low profile series.

Minnow basher as always. It was so frustrating to seem him taking singles and not even trying to play big shots in 16th and 17th over. Selfish player.

Maybe you should read the OP first?
Its not only today since his return to the side for the last 3 years!

Example he played a very good knock vs SA during the CT to get us ahead on DL.

Even with his selfishness he managed to end the inning with a strike rate of 264.

Remind me what he did vs NZ back in January?

There’s no point playing him in T20’s - groom a youngster in his place.

It won't, but mainly because because people are unreasonable. This game alone won't change anyone's perception when an ODI average of 49.5 at 98 and T20 average of 45 at 136 over the last 3 years haven't been able to. He's been our best and most consistent batsman behind only Babar (who also seems to take a lot of slack on PP for some reason).

Call him a minnow basher all you want, but at least Malik doesn't have an attitude, and he tries his best to play the game in a way that modern cricket is played. He is a much better choice than Hafeez, and in addition to batting, can field very well, and also provide some spin bowling. Hope he continues this performance in big match situations too.

I did read it, but this thread was posted now following this match as if today's performance really hits home the point of how useful a player he has been. I just don't think people should make conclusions about players following performances against a very poor WI side. Statistics and past performances aside, scoring vs a West Indies C side doesn't reflect on how good a player is overall, and should not be used as an example.

All the young players think very highly of him and look up to him, he is like a father figure for many players and therefore he should play. It's not like he doesn't have the performances to back him up. In addition to that, he is one of our best fielders even at this age.

This LOI team needs 1 experienced player and that is Malik. Not Hafeez or Azhar.

These were Shoaib Malik's scores in the most recently completed ODI series against New Zealand:
13, 27, 3, 6.

4 games - 49 runs. Average 12.25.

Although Malik has been very good since 2015, the reason for criticism is due to lack of runs vs top teams. Majority of those runs have come against lower ranked teams.

Yeah fair assessment.

Agreed brother, you understand.

if the next WC was in Asia id be fine with Malik

However the next WC is in England, the next T20 WC is in Aus

I like him, want him to do well, but I remain sceptical.

Not with this performance lol, the opposition is too weak and it's at home. Literally everyone was having a field day.

In T20s Malik's done extremely well averaging 40 something since 2015. That's impressive and more than good enough to get into the team. No point chucking him out.

Even in ODIs, still deserves his spot most likely, but his performance against pace hasn't been up to par. The solution might be shunting him down the order.

Malik is just a minnow basher, averaged 12 in New Zealand series.
Even Hafeez scored 2 half centuries against New Zealand.

He is scoring runs against a West Indies C team and some people
pper's think he is the next Bradman. Lol

The only reason we won the t20 series in NZ was that Malik and to lesser extent Hafeez weren't in the XI..don't count these performances vs WI for much they are as mediocre as they come we can pick half of the team from the streets of Karachi and will still win..Malik is as mediocre as a player i have seen

I think he has, he will be the sole reason we win the 2019 World Cup as well. Adds so much depth and balance to our line up, he gets into any international team in the world. Easily the best spin bowling A/R based on current form, no one comes close.

Goes abroad fails to buy a run in nearly every match hits a pretty 20/30 in one match to remind his critics of his potential. Comes back to Asia smashes trundlers and minnows then shuts hits critics until the next round off overseas matches. Rinse and repeat.

I don't think he's a problem, shoe-horning Sarfraz is a bigger issue than Malik.

Shoaib Malik gets a lot of grief from the so-called experts on this forum. He was in absolute beast mode today and timed every shot to perfection, including the ones that went for 1's and 2's.

Those who think its easy to start hitting from ball one are deluded (you saw what happend to Asif) because it doesn't always come off. People here needlessly criticise Malik for being this, that and the other. You can't just have a team full of newbies, you need a mix of experience as well.

Malik is here to stay for the foreseeable future so people need to deal with it.

His batting against pace isn't intl standard. Look at the limited range of shots he has and how he struggles in Aus/SA/Eng/NZ and anyone who can bowl 140+ in Asia. Outside off stump against the fuller length from pacers he seems to only have one shot and that is the guide to 3rd man, which is also the primary means of how he gets out against them - caught behind. His weakness is a profound one to say the least.

Shouldn't be in the XI, perhaps makes the 15/16 man squad at best for the WC next year.

Dude, it seems you have a selective memory because the whole team struggled in New Zealand so it's harsh for you to single out Malik.

Afridi would’ve done the same thing if he was in the team!! Yes I’m talking about Shahid!

Is he the only player to be playing LO formats from the 90's batch among top teams?

We've got two big duds in the batting lineup because of the reasons you mentioned. Malik and Sarfraz.

I have no idea how people on a cricket forum can't see what's so clear in someone's batting ability. For Malik it's been 20 years.

Amazing.

Captain and/or management will believe today's cameo from him will mean he's progressing to do well in the WC.

He looks a beast against lesser quality bowling. Let him make hay while the sun shines.

Any decent bowling attack will try to hit on the head and he will like a deer in headlights.

Scoring against this rubbish attacks won't silence anyone. I like him but I think his time is up. He's been a good servant for Pakistan cricket but we need to move on.

He’s not a very good batsmen, that’s very clear now

But Malik’s true value is his hitting - I see him just as a power hitter now. There’s very few (maybe no one else) in Pakistan who hit as cleanly as Malik
