Hasan Ali and IPL quality control

Looks like Hasan Ali is the real deal. Those of us who have kept an eye on the PSL have known this for a while now, but he's arrived on the big stage in spectacular fashion in this tournament.

If Pakistan produces one or two more like him, how long can the IPL continue to ignore this sort of talent without damaging their own brand? It's been relatively easy for the past few years with the lack of quality players in Pakistan cricket, but wins over SA, SL and now England would suggest that is in the process of changing.

Can the IPL continue to claim it's premier status when it is missing the big stars of the world stage?

The IPL produces similar bowlers every year. The IPL not only survived but thrived without a peak Ajmal, Afridi, Gul, Sharjeel, Riaz etc, they can certainly do without Hasan Ali
 
IPL can claim whatever they want...and pay stokes another million bucks. What a waste.
 
The feeling I get watching Hasan Ali is the feeling I got when I first watched Azhar Ali during his debut series in England. That of a clean cricketer who tries his best and isn't bothered about whether the camera is watching him or not.

On a side note, some poster's closet obsession with the IPL coming out :))

Exactly, IPL or any league for that matter wouldn't suffer just by excluding a couple of good players from one country as long as players from other countries participate in it.

Hassan Ali is good but he is not some Steyn, let his stoke rise for other leagues for 1st before IPl could get interested in him.

He is no Gayle or Warner that no league can do without.

Don't worry we don't need him in some trash 20/20 league to prove his worth.

IPL is obviously the wealthiest cricket league and it will keep getting bigger and bigger. Including the Pakistani players in it will only have a minor impact in India. Generally most Indian fans do not root for individual Pakistani players. It may make IPL a big thing in Pakistan but not clear how lucrative that market is.

IPL doesn't need to get into arguments about premier anything. All it needs to do is to generate more revenues and it has been growing by leaps and bounds without Pakistani players.
 
Wasn't it on here that everyone said he is a rubbish bowler when Pakistan toured England?
 
Even the captain is obsessed with IPL, he tried to maintain a non caring attitude but his true feeling have come out today and why not IPL is after all the most premier and elite league :srini

To figure out which is the premier league is simple. Like everything else in this world, whoever pays the most to its employees has the highest quality.

he does not need to play ipl though i like ipl and is the best t20 league but i like him to be signed by county this year..
 
Who cares man. Pakistanis need to stop linking everything to India. This mentality stops Pakistan from developing as a nation, always looking over the fence. Sick of it.

The IPL is not the desired standard, international cricket is.

He would obviously enjoy the opportunity of a lucrative IPL contract but I'm sure he's happy enough playing well and receiving recognition for his performances on the international stage. He has been solid since he debuted and has made great strides on the international stage - he may or may not become the greatest bowler ever but, currently, he's doing an excellent job for Pakistan in an era where batsman have the advantage and where there is a derth of pace talent, Pakistan or globally.
 
This has more to do with politics than caliber of players (although admittedly we have a lot of rubbish batsmen for the limited format).
 
1-2 decent Pakistani players will not have a huge bearing on a league which is so massive within India itself. There are a few youngsters who would be a handful in IPL from Pakistan but very few. And it's not like they can not find an alternative else where in the world.

He would certainly easily get picked by an IPL team but the fact is that IPL will not lose a penny without him.
 
Why is the IPL topic coming up again? Also talking about big stars at the world level, didn't they already do without a peak Afridi, Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal after WT20 2009 and WC 2011? I mean this should never have come up. Pakistan players might never get to play another IPL match but that won't really hamper the league in any way.
 
I have no idea what was the need for this thread.

Doesn't matter if he plays ipl or not.
 
Pakistan has to win the 2018 T20 World Cup too in order to become interesting for the IPL.

Fakhar Zaman, Hassan Ali, Shahdab, Fahim Ashraf ....... IPL will be interested in them for sure.
 
Having no Pakistani players in the IPL gives boost to PSL. Its a blessing in diguise.
 
Wow. WTH do you need to bring in IPL everywhere. ?

Keep the top pakistani Talent in your PSL, build up the finances and quality of the league.

There is a reason why Indian talent is banned by BCCI from playing other leagues...
 
lets forget about IPL. Hasan doesnt need IPL validation to be recognised as a world class bowler. Yes it'd be nice for him n other Pak players to get the IPL payday but theuly already have PSL CPL BPL n also im sure Hasan will get many English teams after him for T20 Blast as well as maybe BBL teams too if it doesnt conflict with out intl schedule.
 
PSL will become a very good league in another couple of years.Pakistan players don't need to worry about IPL.
 
True as much as we dont like to admit but IPL is the barometer when looking at a players t20 stats. Playing months of nail biters is definietly good for mental toughness and pressure building of the players. Ideally id love our players to test their mettle and improve their skills aginst creme of international cricket in IPL but with PSL few years down the line we'll definitely see more battle hardened pros.
 
We shouldn't really belittle IPL as it is the best T20 league in the world, rather we should just focus on our own performances and focus on PSL. Currently the IPL do not want to give contracts to Pak players and also do not recognise any of the current Pak players or there even being a PSL tournament. I've even met an Indian fan who never heard of Shahid Afridi.

I think that's a narrow viewpoint. I haven't ever watched IPL because without Pakistan players it's of little interest to me. But I can take my green specs off long enough to recognise that IPL is currently the wealthiest cricket league in the world and so the most desirable to some extent for players to participate.

That said, there is serious competition now with the Big Bash and England will have their own version which will be big competition. Those leagues won't have any political restrictions on players from certain countries which means they will be able to produce the most complete competitions. The IPL is still strictly aimed at the Indian audience which restricts it's appeal worldwide. This is what I mean by damaging the brand. Ultimately I believe that the BCCI will have to find some way to attract Pakistan players again, if only to try and catch the Pakistani audience which must be huge.
 
Thing is, it is not Hassan Ali's loss if he is not in IPL. It is the IPL franchise's loss if he's not there.
 
I'm not sure why Pakistani's are so obsessed with India. People will still watch IPL without Hasan Ali. It will continue to survive

Actually it is the other way around. IPL is the most successful T20 league with or without Hasan Ali. However, Hasan Ali will be set for life if he plays a couple of seasons of the IPL.
 
I dont't understand why does it bother Op so much about IPL ? Don't know if he is from Pak or Ind but Its their league let them decide who they want to include in the league... I as a fan of Pakistan cricket is more than happy Alhamdulillah that our players are not part of IPL.

If he keeps performing he can pluck many other contracts from county to t20 leagues.

Don't think IPL closes any door for Hasan to take himself ahead and ahead.
 
Really doesn't need the IPL when there's the PSL already, and it's growing rather quickly.

Excellent bowler and should be in the top 5 ODI bowlers for some time.

1. Mitchell Starc
2. Josh Hazelwood
3. Hassan Ali
4. Kagiso Rabada
5. Jasprit Bumrah

That "low class" T20 league is the reason why PSL exists in the first place, a tournament that many people are crediting for our (apparent) revival in Limited Overs cricket.

No doubt, but that's not what I said. The PSL doesn't need Indian players either to be successful, but it would still be a better competition with them in it, and vice versa. These competitions are built around the concept of having the best players from around the globe, so if they aren't there, there is an element missing. IPL hasn't felt it so far because of the poor quality of Pakistan players for the last few years, but sooner or later there are going to be more Hasan Alis, and then the brand will lose some relevance in comparison to others without that handicap.

League is there for its star power. Hassan Ali is the star power I am talking about. It would benefit the franchise if he plays. Hassan already plays PSL and other leagues for money. I agree he is not the only star in IPL. But a franchise is the winner in the end if they get Hassan, whether it is PSL, BBL or even PSL.
 
IPL and Tendulkar.

Somehow these two entities keep making their appearances in various threads even though they are either on a break or retired..
