What's new

Hasan Ali's 5fer is only the 3rd one by a Pakistani pacer in a winning cause since the start of 2006

With Hasan it's either an absolute hammering or a brilliant performance. No in between...a bit of a dangerous trait to have for both Pakistan and the oppostion. He doesn't convince me too much tbh, but is still miles better than the other jokers posing as pacers.

That Gul one was amazing.

Back when Pak were down and out from the spot-fixing controversy, trashed in the T20 series (looked like they didn't want to be there) and trailing 2-0 in the ODI series.

His 5-fer lifted the spirits and got Pak fighting again.

Think of it the other way, he went for a hundred in his last ODI before this series and then was smacked around in the first ODI here too - yet he comes back strongly to seal the win.

He'll gain consistency with time but his ability to prize out wickets is a superb trait for a 23-year-old.

I would take his regular impactful spells even if that means he gets hammered every now and then. He takes more risks and doesn't bowl defensive rubbish like Amir, who ends with decent looking figures but never has any impact. Hasan continuously looks for wickets and pitches it up, which means when he doesn't get it right, he is easy to score runs off. However, when he gets it right, he gives you wickets. With time, one can hope that his consistency will improve, because he looks like a strike bowler. Needs to make his Test debut now.

If he can gain consistency, then yes it will be good. However if he's having an off day, there's no harm in bowling defensively...

It's true though, he's definitely a wicket taker. It's the reason he has a strike rate of 26 compared to Amirs 33 and Wahabs 35. Not to mention the superior average and more 5fers than both Wahab and Amir combined.

Is it possible for you to comment on any Pakistan bowler without slipping in how bad you think Amir is?

On topic, good to see not only Hasan continue to take wickets but his attitude. Refreshing not to have bowlers who smile sheepishly after being hit for runs and start joking with the batsman. I like the aggression and mini battles e.g. with Nurse today.

Next step for Hasan is to get on top of the ball better by maintaining his height in delivery stride and generate a bit more lift. With the airspeed he generates, he's definitely capable.

Standout name in that list is Rao 'Boa Constrictor' Iftikhar Anjum. Legend. :rao

lets see how he bowls against top tier teams. We would only be able to gauge his level when he plays against aus sa nz etc. He should bowl near to stumps. Try to swing it away from right handers too. This will get him more wickets

Some people want him to bowl with the new ball but i have seen him mostly struggling when he bowls with a new bowl
Thanks

Its an awful situation that we don't have pacers who could take 5 wickets in a match and contribute towards win for the team.

Are you sure he should make his Test debut? I mean we play a lot of cricket anyway. He plays in the PSL. Plays in most of the Pakistan LOI matches. He's only in his early 20's. Is it a risk worth taking given we're playing most of our Tests in Asian conditions where we don't even need him as much?

I'm still not convinced by Hassan "Agarkar" Ali. I'd like to see more. On a positive note he has added a few tricks to his arsenal and in this age of the "Indian" type ODI bowler it may not be a bad thing that he resembles an Indian pacer..

that celebration is horrible by the way..

He can crack it up 140+ what are you talking about?

Also is sharp.

Wow did not know this at all. Just for perspective, The Fizz has two match-winning 5fers alone in the space of two matches and that too in his first two games. :fizz

Absolutely. Consider our existing options in Tests: Amir has no impact, Wahab is erratic, Sohail is good but unfit & old, Junaid is finished, Rahat and Imran will never amount to anything. Yes it could potentially break him down, but that is a risk every modern fast bowler carries.

Fizz is a very good bowler. I have seen him bowl and he is a very good bowler, Creates good angles, Good variations and fantastic bowling action.

Plus, after this series, it's resting time for a month at least.
