Stackpole became #1 when ODIs started, and Arnold did it a couple of years later when ODIs were still very new and there was less competition so it was easier to get to #1.

So basically Hasan is the fastest ever in modern day ODI cricket. :hasanali

His rise to the top has been meteoric and it has not just been limited to racking up numbers. He has made a real impact with his performances. Hassan has made our pace attack look formidable again.

Hasan Ali is head and shoulders above any bowler in world cricket today.

Interesting to see Saqlain 2nd after him.

Was such a brilliant spinner. Sad that PCB allowed him to retire so young after that injury

Lol, Stacky was a complete part-timer as a bowler (legspin partnership breaker role, a few overs an innings type guy). He was an opening bat.

He must have got lucky the day they started the rankings.

Hasan Ali's rise has been quite remarkable. I hope he's not done yet.

I must admit I pretty much categorised him in the "nice start but ultimately limited" Bhuvi type bowler when he first emerged.

Hasan Ali, who recently rose to the top of the ICC One-Day International rankings for bowlers, is the third-fastest bowler from his debut to achieve the feat. Hasan, who made his ODI debut against Ireland in August 2016, took just 426 days to reach the No. 1 ranking, only behind Keith Stackpole, the Australian leg-spinner who started the rankings at No. 1, and Geoff Arnold, the England right-arm pacer.

Along the way, he pipped Saqlain Mushtaq, the former Pakistan off-spinner who took 473 days from his debut to make it to the top of ICC rankings.

Hasan, 23, helped Pakistan to a 4-0 lead in the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka with 12 wickets, at 11.58 and a miserly economy of 3.69. He rose to the top, soaring six places, after bagging 5 for 34 against Sri Lanka in the third ODI in Abu Dhabi.

Hasan’s phenomenal rise in international cricket over the last one year has been one of the stories of Pakistan cricket. He recently scripted his way to the record books after becoming the fastest bowler to reach 50 ODI wickets for Pakistan.

Taking 24 ODIs to get there, Hasan broke the record of Waqar Younis, who had taken 27 ODIs to achieve the landmark.

He also played a leading role in Pakistan’s ICC Champions Trophy 2017 win in June in England, where he finished with 13 wickets and was named Player of the Tournament.

Hasan Ali is the definition of being consistent. In each of his opening spells he picks up wickets, most of the time it's in his first over but once in a while he needs 2 overs to pick up a wicket.

And there we people who were against his initial selection for Away tours, because they badly wanted Asif and Ehsan Adil :))
