What's new

Have we stopped enjoying the moment because of mobile devices?

I don't understand people capturing various moments in their mobile through videos.

Pictures I understand but videos?

Regardless of your mobile quality, the video quality will be so-so...the sound will be jarring....the camera will be shaking....who the hell even watches such videos afterwards?

A pointless waste of time. Many do it just cos others do it.

Its better to enjoy the moment LIVE and then maybe take a couple of snaps (if you can) rather than shoot some low quality crappy video.

Very true this. I found myself doing this when I was posting comments on a football game I was watching, then realised I was actually missing the football in order to give my opinion on a message board where no one gave a toss. I stopped doing that now, or at least wait until there's a break in the action.

I just sooooooooooooooooooooooo hate it when people watch every major event through their smart phones or through whatever recording device.
Come on guys, in your attempt to capture it for future, you are missing it today !!

BTW - my wife just hates me for these thoughts :(

I don't think anyone records videos to watch later. Instead they are probably Snapchatting or sharing it on Instagram to let others know that they are supposedly having a good time and how awesome their life is. Having a good time and actually enjoying the moment has become secondary to broadcasting everything you do to your friends list or followers on social media.

Even I am obsessed about preserving important moments of my life but these guys seem to be taking it too far.

The objective is not to capture it for the future, but to show others where you were or how cool you are.

This generation

Yes its annoying tbh I hate pics too but then offlate i realized how many memories of pics i have and now years later i cherish them esp ones my parents took and i did as well,so yeah one shouldn't stop taking pics but videos are absolutely pointless.

Also the way how i feel about pics it could be the younger generation feels same about videos or snapchat so i can't really say.

Wonder if the older generation felt "paintings" were amazing and photos suck.

Well Said. These days all people care about is the likes they get on Facebook/Twitter/Snapchat. People like DJ Khaled, Umar Akmal and Trump made this trend even worse. It must be sad living for others.

Most people who you go with will be busy taking pics and videos , I just ask them to forward that to me later .

Most certainly. We miss more than a moment here. Camera is just one aspect of the bigger picture. We miss relationships, peace of mind, actual conversations etc here. Many times you are trying to communicate with a person at your dinner table, in your car, walking with you, sitting beside you while he is busy on social media/whats app.
Every day i read an article somewhere about social media making people unsocial, while i experience it myself routinely.

Things were okay till the facebook/Instagram/twitter era but since the advent of Snapchat its been frustrating to say the least. Everyone is snapchatting all the time no matter what the hell happens and its just annoying.

Thank God I grew up in an era without this rubbish or else rather than ringing doorbells and running all my friends would have been snapchatting each other's faces.

I think we are being tad unfair to the younger gen. Maybe they like their interactions in that fashion?

7/8 years back, i was heavy user of Pocket Pc (HP iPaq) but recently I have stopped using any cellular device.

Definitely. Even I have been guilty of this and funnily enough the pictures we take we rarely or eve never see again.

Magnificent picture. I'm also guilty of mobile phone addiction, posting on PP has only aggravated the problem.

There is a reason for that however silly.

Yeah when I'm watching a match with the fam, I'm constantly posting on PP match thread using my phone and everybody around me thinks I'm weird.

I barely use my laptop these days and posting from my phone means I'm pretty much online whenever I'm awake, which of course is extremely counterproductive.

My cousin who is 20 years old came from another city to spend couple of his vacations with me. Only when eating or bathing he would put his phone aside. And even then he always finishes his food way before me. He says that it is just his natural speed while eating but i taunt him that you hurry only to free your hands so that you could again grasp your phone. All he does is uses snapchat and chats in his university whats app groups. He does not even get a proper sleep.

Trust me. I look even weirder laughing at your hilarious jokes. :))

I refrain from doing this. I always enjoy the moment and laugh at those who sit their to record it.

I think most people just want to have proof to show to others that yeh we were there

Cell or mobile phones can be a curse as they are an addiction. Try giving them up for at least half of the day to see you can live without them rather easily. Use the landline instead. Every bad habit is hard to get rid off, afterwards we realise giving it up has enhanced our life in many ways. I feel much happier for not at all being glued to my mobile.

I used to post on PP while watching but I slowly realized I was missing out on the match, so I am nowhere near PP anymore while watching.

Oh god, I just hate it. I feel like I don't belong to my generation.

When we go to a restaurant, first my friends/family have to check-in where we are eating.. and then when the food comes they need to post the pics of food/drinks on snapchat/insta/whatever. By the time we are done, they keep replying to the comments coming in from friends on FB/Insta etc.

Its like people are more focused on showing the world they are having fun than actually having fun.

I just wish I could travel back to the time where people actually had direct contacts and not over IM's or crap. No surprise that depression is so widespread now.

Do meditation to stay present. It works. Takes couple of weeks, but it works.

Since I don't carry data on my cell-phone, I didn't get sucked into this trend. Even then I still find it a waste of time to take videos/snap-chats or w.e and post it on social media.

I think it's really stupid, never record during a big moment, just enjoy it, it might never comeback again. Picture afterwards are fine, even though I tend to avoid them.
