Humble request to all posters to not ruin this thread with hateful posts. This thread is dedicated to remembering an era long lost. When the entire region from Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, etc were all one nation.

I will start with this.

Mohd. Ali Jinnah’s iconic Jinnah House at the Malabar Hill, Mumbai

A sprawling 2.5 acre property in the posh locality of Mumbai. Built at a cost of Rs 2 Lakhs at that time which was a lot of money. Mahatama Gandhi also paid visit there in 1944

Hartal and grief in Lahore at the news of Mahatama Gandhi’s death

Lahore is a wonderful city with extraordinary traditions. That is why Bullay Shah’s famous verse of not being happy on enemy’s death, for friend is also going to die, so popular here. A city full of passion for Quaid-e-Azam grieved for Mahatma Gandhi in a similar way by observing complete hartal in city. A sad death with sad results. Lahore felt the sudden shock of the passing away an icon of India.

Good times. It’s unfortunate that we let outside forces turn us against each other, divide and conquer and all. Who knows how far ahead we’d be right now collectively, unified. Thanks for sharing.

The propaganda from people of both sides has mentally conditioned people into believing that we are so far apart when we coexisted for centuries. Don’t ever let these people win. If the future generations of these lands are to have a bright future the issues between our nations must be resolved by our leaders and we have people movements back. People of Bharat going to Lahore, Karachi and vice bersa Pakistanis coming to Mumbai, Delhi. These cities are shared viraasat

British sucked the life of our nation. They looted all the wealth and made their country great with our money. Whenever i see old photos of British with our people, i either see them with the royal families or top politicians, businessmen etc or i see them with the miserable looking poverty stricken people turned slaves.

They leeched literally trillions of dollars worth of wealth. No exaggeration, $45 trillion. There’s a documentary on YouTube called how the Brits Unmade India that summarizes everything.

Not only that unfortunately they used psychological tactics on purpose that Churchill mentioned as well to create inferiority complex amongst the subcontinent populace (as well as throughout the world) which our people still suffer from to this day, subconsciously still subservient to the angraiz..

Should’ve never let them stay on our shores when we had the chance.

Nice pictures. It is a dream of my father no visit Indian held Punjabi to see where his forefathers grew up.

The dream is not so strong for me although I would still like to, and is non existent for my kids.

We are probably the last generation on both sides who will harbour some liking for the other. After we go the countries will truly be separate.

I have seen this already amongst the diaspora communities in the UK. My grandmother considered her Indian neighbours as sisters, my mother as dear friends, me as "apnay" but still different but the younger generation are now two separate communities.

There's a channel called British Pathé on youtube that has a lot of videos that show India & Pakistan in the decades prior to and after the year of indenpendence. It has plenty of excellent quality footage of those great moments in history, well worth a watch.

I think someone posted pictures of early 20th century pictures of India here before a few years back, and I remember saying that it looked a lot nicer than the current day version. :ROFLMAO:
