Moin Khan, a former wicket-keeper batsman from Pakistan, has expatiated in the selection debate that has been going around the selection of son Azam Khan.

Moin Khan was seen during a press conference of former Pakistan captain Rameez Raja's first media interaction since being elected as PCB chairman. Moin was asked about his son Azam Khan and the debate that has been going on with Azam being selected in the team.

"Everyone keeps talking about fitness, which I agree is important. But, over the years we have had players who are said to be fit but don't perform. I don't need to reiterate the fact Azam plays for my own PSL franchise and has won us games, so the skill aspect has always been there. So I will just say that he's a match winner, don't write him off."

"I love when people criticize my son. I believe criticisms will bring the best out of him; it will make him a player."

Azam has been going through baptism by fire ever since he has been in the Pakistani cricket circuit. The critics have been harsh on him as he's the son of a former cricketer. But his father knows how to keep him going. Here's what Moin said on Azam's relentless criticism

"Basically, criticisms are a part of the sport and are for the betterment of the player in question. It can encourage the individual to keep improving."

Moin Khan, a former player himself, empathized with son Azam as he felt being a critic is one of the easier jobs in cricket. The former gloveman recalled his playing days and how the tough competition meant he was dropped from the team often too.

"I have myself faced the axe a number of times and then made comebacks as well on the back of brilliant performances. Therefore, I have already told Azam to take critics in a positive manner."

Moin perceives that every individual takes to criticism in their own way. It generally depends on the perspective and the mindset that one has.

"Every flaws and weaknesses which are highlighted by the critics can help tighten up a player, it all depends upon the perspective of an individual."

"Our middle order in ODIs has been a cause of concern" - Babar Azam on brittle Pakistan middle order

Pakistan will meet New Zealand at home in a three ODI and five T20 match series. Azam Khan has been selected in the team for the games against New Zealand which will precede England's arrival in Pakistan.

Azam's role as a second wicket-keeping option and a power hitter in the middle order will be tested in the T20 World Cup.

Moin is right, Azam Khan is a match winner indeed, for the opposition. He would let opposition win by leaking runs on the field and getting out early in the middle order when needed.

Okay let's be honest. He would never have been picked if he wasn't Moin 's son. Sharjeel Khan is way better than him and he didn't get picked, he's also a match winner

Both haven't won an international game in their lives. One is a convicted fixer, and the other a hippo with a cricketer's costume. Neither would find a place in any other team.

You will look back at this era of Pakistan cricket as a dark one, if and when you actually find worthy players in future.

In the very few international appearances he's had, it is already obvious that Azam is not up to that standard. I am surprised he's even been able to produce a few hits in PSL, it might be damning for PSL.

He is a gully cricketer at best, even that is generous given his fitness level. It is hard to believe he is in the Pakistan team.

Nonsense from Moin. If criticism really brought the best out of Azam, he wouldn't be looking like he does now.

Father praises mediocre son who he forced onto our screens and into our teams.

Moin Khan made it so easy for someone to play for Pakistan , as long as that someone is his ridiculously unfit and non-performing son.

It is natural that he is vouching for his son, but how hard is it to get him fit?

He also needs to convince his son to treat cricket more than just a hobby and play FC as well instead of hopping from one T20 franchise to another.

At times, it appears that Azam is more interested in his music than cricket.

Too bad they aren't playing cricket in their porch, and Azam Khan isn't 5 years old anymore.

Azam's ground fielding is also poor. Though he can hit big against spinners.

But the thing which surprises me the most is If Moin Khan wanted his son to be a cricketer, why didn't he take care of his fitness since early age. He is an ex captain of Pakistan and he didn't know the basic requirement of an athlete.

Moreover, we have been listening for the last 2 years that he is working very hard on his fitness but he still looks unfit.

All the high talks that Ramiz had in the press , nobody bothered to ask him abt this hippo who got elected in the WC squad. His father was seated just in front of him 🤣

Last time I saw someone that fat in the cricket ground was a player from papu new Guinea, who is to field in the slips

Excellent point.

Is it because Moin does not think there is anything wrong with it?

Guy cant even take a single to save his lifeà

It's a matter of shame for Pakistan Cricket that someone is going to play an international tournament, without any credible domestic record and an awful level of fitness, just because he is the son of a former cricketer.

Match winner? lmao

Azam khan and his father are everything that is wrong with Pakistan cricket these days.

He is talented for sure. literally busrting out of his seams

Match winner? Why are we so obsessed with these buzz words? Just let him play and actually win games for us before you start labelling him as a match winner.

To tell you the truth, I was expecting some hard hitting questions but it sounded as they were all paid to ask easy questions :)

I understand ppl criticise him for fitness but he is a powerful hitter, and if he can play under pressure will be a good addition to squad.
But we will know by his performance against nz soon

Match winner? How many matches has he won and what scores has he got to get this call up?

The fact is hes overweight and has very little on his CV apart from being the son on moin khan

This type of thing sets a terrible precedent He shouldnt be in the squad

He does need to work on his fitness and I don't think he should be part of the squad unless he improves this aspect

Happy Birthday to Moin Khan - 50 years old today

you are cruel. what if he is the second coming of Ranatunga in white ball cricket..

Azam Khan made 20(20) for Sindh v Southern Punjab today

If Azam Khan can become a professional cricketer, then there is hope for all of us. Just find a relative with money and power, get selected without showing any potential at all, then manage to slog a lucky four or six before long you will be in your country's national team!

Biggest product of nepotism. He has such high dot percentage and he is not a consistent striker of the ball(not acceptable with high dot percentage) . International teams will eat him alive

He is club level while facing over 140+

Smashed a trundler version of Amir in LPL and PSL and he became a overnight star. FRAUD

Azam today first confuses Sohaib Maqsood and then when he sees both are at the same end, he makes sure he returns back to the crease before Sohaib..lol nepotism boy is pretty selfish too.

There's sadly more truth than joke to this post, and it's insanely depressing.

What a joke of a cricketer.

He will be chewed up and spit out on the international stage.

A match-winner who is yet to win his team a match.

Hardly surprising.

Yet a lot of posters were clamouring for him to be included.

He's a joke, him being so out of shape makes our team a laughing stock (more than we are as it is). He's done nothing in either PSL seasons either, did ''well'' in 3/10 odd games everytime.

He is only in the team due to being Moin's son. Nothing else nothing more.

Zero technique, zero ability, zero fitness, zero skills, zero talent.

The only cricket he should be playing is in his street. Because I have honestly seen tape-ball and club cricketers that were/are a million times better than him.

Id question the pakistan selectors Why would they think hes in any shape or form ready to play for pakistan?

This guy really needs to produce something spectacular very soon. Going down hill just like a lot of players in the recent past who promised something but produced nothing

Umar Akmal
Haider Ali
Azam Khan?

Hopefully we don’t say they were 3 big disappointments for Pakistan 15 years from now

What an absurd post.

Akmal has played some excellent innings before imploding. And proved himself in domestic before being selected.

Same for Haider Ali.

Azam, all he's done is play well in 6/20 PSL games and be Moin Khan's son. How is he even in the same conversation?

Your posts are generally good, but happened this time ??
Talking about this rubbish guy Azam khan in the same breath with Umar Akmal and Haider Ali, really ??

Can't Keep
Can't Bat
Can't Run
Can't Field

Hard to see why he was selected, Mohd Waseem needs to answer for the selection.

Its like watching an under 15 keeper behind the stumps.

Not only is his selection a slap in the face of all PCT fans but is also very discouraging for domestic players. We have always seen some 'sifarishi' kids in the international team over the years (Faisal Iqbal, Imran Farhat, Imam for some fans) but this selection has to be the worst hands down!

If he doesn't perform in remaining matches of the tournament, he can lose his world cup spot.

It all depends upon his bat and his fathers magic hat.
Either he gets kicked out or maybe goes on to become captain of the T20 team

He's the sort of player you expect to find in an associate side, to seem him playing for Pakistan is astonishing.

you sure? maybe someone else pulls the strings there too

The only thing in favour of Azam is the fact that he gets signed up for the CPL every year. Surely they wouldnt sign him just because he is Moin’s son?

Another failure for the obese nepotistic parchi. How many more before Mohammad Wasim finally admits he was wrong to favor his friendship with Moin Khan over Pakistan's World Cup fortunes?

Mohammad Wasim was forced to select him. This guy along with Danish Aziz and Khusdil Shah have no future.

Mr Power point Wasim should be sacked for selecting him.

His PSL record is 17 avg and 129 SR. LOOLL

He's the chief-selector, he should have showed some spine if he was infact forced to select him.

If Azam Khan somehow manages to still stay in Pakistan's World Cup squad, it would be a real travesty. Because then you're essentially going to the World Cup with 17 players, instead of 18.

Let’s just hope he’s not picked for next years WT20, I’m deciding to skip this year’s because of how ridiculously bat**** our squad is!!! We had 5 years to develop a squad for the WT20, and we still only have 3-4 players who have solidified their spot in the XI.

I am happy with him being in team because he will be exposed. What really pains me is that in the process Pakistan will be a laughing stock for the world cricket and also fail in t20 WC. Really disappointed in Ramiz

definately an impact player, a magician, so smooth, you cant even tell if he played the game until you see the scorecard... moin bhai ap k talented bachay ko kahin nazar hi na lag jaye... aisa heera sadiyon baad bhi nhin milta, the world envies us...

At least he can run out his colleagues consistently !! Run outs in CPL and KPL and now Sohaib Maqsood in T-20

Moin Khan acting like a used car salesman trying to pass off clunker of his son as a match winner without any stats to back his claim :D When was the last time this watermelon helped Pakistan won a match at international level?

Misbah yesterday on the show took a jibe at Moin Khan. When the wagon wheel was shown for Rizwan and Babar , he remarked that he was told that fitness doesn't matter for a certain match winner. Really liked it. Appreciate him for standing against nepotism

He's scored his maiden first-class century in the Quaid e Azam Trophy for Southern Punjab against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today.

Congratulations to him! He is a much batter than a lot of people think of him. He is an all format material, very talented kid. Wether he is international quality or not is reamain to be seen, but at a moment we will have to give him a go.

Speaking in an interview:

“You see, he is slowly regaining his form and getting into his groove. He has scored runs in the ongoing first-class season. Naturally, any young kid would get disheartened if he is dropped from a T20 World Cup squad after being initially part of it. But what I have learnt from this game is to work hard every day and stick to the basics. Because your luck can change any moment if you work hard.”

“I think he is lucky that he has me as his coach and mentor all the time – at home and Quetta Gladiators. What I believe is that a player should stay focused on his abilities and performance, and silence his critics with his performance.”

He scored one FC century. How do we have to give him a go?

Pakistan has alot more batsmen with better records.

Also, to get in, he needs to get in as a batsman. We have got Rizwan as the keeper and rohail/haris is a good back up option.

And with his fitness levels - I'd be surprised if he is anymore than an abysmal fielder

Its sad how his father is so involved in his cricket to an unhealthy degree I dont think ive seen any other ex cricketer father in so deep with his sons career like moin is

I mean he may feel like hes looking out for him and helping his game but in reality hes doing azam a great dis service and harming him rather than helping him

He should step back and let him develop naturally rather than forcing him down the fans and selectors throats like this

What is even more disappointing that he is playing for Southern Punjab, a region he doesn’t even belong to. Occupying a spot for deserving keeper from that region. This kid is getting preferential treatment after treatment and still cant be bothered to lose his weight.

Is it just me or has he gotten fatter?

Maybe he has some underlying health issue like hypothryoid, he did gave his best shot as he was working so hard in gym and being on field is a workout in itself. So many people live their life without getting thyroid tested.

Well then tough luck to him. He will always struggle because of his weight.

Former Pakistan Captain Moin Khan during interaction with media at local event:

"It doesn't seem appropriate for me to take a position now that Azam is playing."

"The World Cup preparations were evident to everyone."

"There was no visible planning in the cricket team. There is a system under which players come and go. When the system gets flawed, problems arise."

"We should support new players, but we start discussing based on one performance."

"Players in Pakistan should be given a respectful farewell like in India."

"When information leaks from within the team, it gets discussed worldwide. Conversations from the dressing room, whether from the coach or the captain, should not be leaked."

"India is a big team, and they should participate in the Champions Trophy. It would be unfair if India does not come to the Champions Trophy after the Asia Cup."

Really poor player, getting daddy's backing...

Should be kept far away from the team... never ever under any circumstances be allowed to don PCT shirt (white or coloured)...

Disgraceful for our entire nation to back him and keep him in the team...
