And there are some encouraging signs. HKCA's website is on the verge of becoming fully bilingual, and the board is rewriting the Chinese character cricket glossary to better reflect the game. The Hong Kong Sixes, which ran from 1992 to 2012, will return later this year; for the first time, commentary will also be offered in Chinese, geared towards educating viewers about the game.

Great entertainment this tournament. Still cant forget imran nazir's legendary over where he single handedly threw the whole game away. :))

Good tournament.

Here is a place you send your cricketers when you want them to learn how to construct an innings. And also improve your technique.

IIRC, Razzaq, Afridi and Umar Ajmal all played for Pakistan in one of the tournaments.

HONG KONG SIXES CALLED OFF FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN SUCCESSION

The Hong Kong Cricket Sixes tournament which is being played every year at the Kowloon Cricket Club (Hong Kong) is being called off for the second successive year. This was revealed by Dr John Cribbin, the Deputy Director (Academic Services).

Speaking exclusively over his mobile from Hong-Kong, he says, “the event, which has always been well supported by ICC and many of the Full Members of ICC, provides a wonderful showcase for our sport and brings many leading players to Hong Kong. To be mounted successfully the event needs a major sponsor and this has proved difficult to secure in the past two years. Regrettably therefore we concluded in late July, as we had not been able to sign up a major sponsor, that we would again have to defer the event”.

“The Hong Kong Cricket Association (HKCA) sees the HK Cricket Sixes as a significant part of its strategy for the development of the sport in Hong Kong, particularly its primary commitment to widen participation by Chinese people in cricket”.

“We are, however, confident that we will be able to put arrangements in place for 2016. In May this year we appointed our first CEO, Mr. Tim Cutler, and one of his priorities is to seek more commercial sponsorship to underpin our efforts in developing the game. This will build on our strong roots, our national team’s success in having both ODI and T20i status (we will be competing in the T20 World Cup in India next year), our commitment to increasing participation in the sport by both Chinese men and women as well as youths, and our showcase international event, the HK Cricket Sixes”, he further added.

“The Sixes format can also play a role in development while its shorter duration can provide an exciting event - we recently hosted a successful (though weather affected) ‘Sixes4Nepal’ event involving some of the Nepal National Team as well as our own leading players to fundraise for the earthquake recovery in Nepal”.

Consider for Olympics

“We also believe that the Sixes format could be considered for the Olympics and hope the emerging debate on the potential for cricket in the Olympics may take this into account. In our plans for 2016 we hope we may widen the participation to include some leading Associate countries, particularly from the region, who may play in a pre-event qualifier to join the main event. We have, of course, for a number of year involved the China National Mens and Womens teams in guest appearances at the event”.

“All in all therefore we see a bright future for the event and are optimistic that we will see it return successfully in 2016”, Cribbin concluded.

Really sad!It was a very entertaining tournament!

really sad, should think about moving the venue around, bring it to the UK, India, UAE,west indies... im sure they will be able to find enough sponsors to bank roll this.

HK sixes didn't bring anything new to the plate when there is already T20 matches where batsman throws caution to the wind anyways.

Hong Kong Sixes 2.0 – cricket-fest to make hi-tech, explosive return in October, organisers say

Sixes 2.0 is how Cricket Hong Kong is rebranding the popular tournament, which finally returns to the calendar after five years and whose reincarnation will reflect the new digital and social media universe into which it is being reborn.

The governing body on Wednesday confirmed that the Hong Kong Sixes will be held this year, on October 28 and 29 at the Kowloon Cricket Club – a welcome boost for the local game after several years of false starts in which the tournament’s return was halted by a lack of financial backing.

“Everyone in the cricket community in Hong Kong is delighted to have the Sixes confirmed as being back on our calendar,” Cricket Hong Kong Director Jonathan Cummings said.

“We love what the Sixes was and are passionate about bringing the best bits with us, but we won’t be satisfied putting on the same show as in 2012.

“This will be the Sixes 2.0 and over time, we want to make this the most hi-tech, innovative cricket tournament in the world. The emergence of Twenty20 leagues around the world is great. but this is an opportunity to create a different experience for cricket lovers and to engage new fans to the sport.

“It’s a format where we aren’t bound by the traditional rules of the game, so we will design everything to provide maximum entertainment value and engagement.”

The revival of the Sixes means Hong Kong will have two major international tournaments a year, with the annual Hong Kong T20 Blitz, featuring five franchise teams, being held in March and attracting almost 12 million online views through Facebook and YouTube.

Cricket Hong Kong hopes to better those figures with the Sixes, which is likely to feature eight national teams who will be confirmed later.

They are also hoping that the action-packed format will help to attract new cricket fans to the game in Hong Kong.

“We see the Sixes as a key cog in our local engagement strategy,” Cummings said. “We’ve already launched the Junior Cricket Sixes into local schools and we look forward to connecting that programme with the October event.

“Anyone can enjoy Sixes cricket, lots of big hits and great entertainment with no breaks, so you don’t need to have grown up loving the game to enjoy it. We think it has a role to play within the region in promoting the sport.”

Although Hong Kong has a dedicated one-day ground at Mission Road, KCC is the appropriate venue for the Sixes and has been its traditional home for all but one of the previous Sixes tournaments from 1992 to 2012. The club is expected to provided seating for up to 2,000 spectators each day.

“We are looking forward to have the International Cricket Sixes back at Kowloon Cricket Club,” said Kowloon Cricket Club President David Brettel.

“It is hoped that the return of the Cricket Sixes will fill the niche market for the shorter form of the game in Hong Kong of which the Sixes has previously been the showpiece. KCC is in full support of Cricket Hong Kong’s efforts to reinstate the event.

“We are delighted to welcome back the Sixes to the KCC and we are excited to be partnering with Cricket Hong Kong in their endeavour to bring a world class sporting event to Hong Kong”.

“We’d like to extend our thanks to Kowloon Cricket Club,” Cummings said.

“The venue is perfect for Sixes cricket and they have the experience in providing world class hospitality and service and will host spectators to an outstanding weekend.”

“We can’t wait for October to come around and call on the cricket community to get behind us. We’ve got two big events a year now and we’re very excited about the impact this can have on promoting the game in Hong Kong”

hope Pakistan decides to send Misbah as captain for this event

To be honest its a rubbish tournament with ground having no shapes

they need to build a proper ground first with sitting capacity of 3 4k or maybe better 10 15k with one side of grass like abu dhabi.

where they can invite international teams for proper matches.

What ever happened to this tournament? I used to love it and look forward to watching it in septemeber-october

It was a great format and pure entertainment of 2 days
